Hey Juicer, I would love to help if I can. I know my Giants pretty well I think. I've played the game for years and edited my own rosters constantly. How does the process for this whole thing start?
The Giants are number 1! Everyone else is second or lower....

Re: 2013 OSFM: World Champion San Francisco Giants

My opinion on the only two players that I know as SFG prospects:
If you make Panik correctly, he should show up as a B at short but an A if you change his position to 2B.

Gary Brown can be another tricky one because his base-stealing ability was exposed last year. This game will put emphasis on defense first and foremost for a CF with contact hitting and then base running next. Please keep that in mind when deciding on his potential and be conservative on his ceiling. He'd be doing great to be an everyday CF in my eyes.

Ok great! The more Giants fans that can work on this the better.

So the process works like this...

Between now and the release of the game, we really just need to gather info. Who is on the 40 man, who is in camp, etc. I like to focus on all the players in training camp first once the game is released. This way we can put out a spring training roster Giants fans can use until the complete OSFM is released.

Once we have that, it's really about making our best guesses on who will be at what level and making those players. I like to make Double-A and Triple-A as accurately as possible. With injuries and things of that nature, there will always be a few players on those squads who don't make the cut.

And then the top 15 lower level prospects will be created. Last year, I made a bunch of extra guys that I stored in free agency. The problem with that is, unless you put them on a team by the all star break, they'll just retire. If there is time and a demand for that, we can look into it.

So, pretty much, all the players that are in Spring Training, expected to be in AAA or AA, and the top prospects that consistently make top 10/20 lists will all need to be created.

When I say created, I mean edited. The actual process of creating players requires that we find existing "fake" players with the potentials we want to use. We then edit over those fake players to create the players we want.

So once we have our list of players, we'll divide them up. You will create your players all in one roster. You can then send me the roster either through PM or through the roster vault. I'll export all the players and add them to our master file. Once we're complete, I send that to Knight or Ridin and they export everyone into the OSFM master file.

As far as creating players, their is a few things we need to complete. Basic Info, Batting Stance/Pitching Motion, Ratings, and Faces. If there is any aspect you don't feel like you will do well, that is ok, I or somebody else can complete those players. I know most people don't like to do faces. Knight lines up a lot of "face only" guys who have a talent for make players look identical to their real life counterparts. I'm ok at making faces. But not great.

So that is the gist of it. For now, we really just want to start discussion on potentials and who to include. I have a lot of info on a spreadsheet. I need to convert that to google docs so I can share it with you. If you have any questions or anything, you can PM me or post in here.

I sort of just head the charge for our group, but please feel free to contribute anyway you would like to. If you have your own rankings you would like to share or anything...please do!

                  Welcome aboard!

Wow ^^^ That was a long post, sorry...

I should also mention that Willard will be making a video capture of the work we did last year. I need to send him a list of the players that we created last year that will be included this year. This will save us a ton of time because the work will be done already. All we have to do is play the video and pause so we can just copy everything over.

Yea, the potentials are preliminary. A potential players typically need to go through an approval process. I have a feeling that only Crick will be granted A status. Although, Brown had a much better 2nd half in Richmond. The jump from A to AA is consider the toughest one to make. He adjusted well in the 2nd half. I still have some high expectations of Gary Brown. We'll have to see how he does in the SB department this next year. He made a ton of attempts, but got caught a ton. We can replicate that with his ratings.

Panik, I agree...as a 2B prospect, he is one of the best. As a SS...he is definitely above average but not top tier. We'll have to discuss on where we place him in OSFM. It might be hard to get him that A status as a 2nd baseman.

I like what you're thinking though. Potentials should be based on the position they play relative to all minor leaguers. Maybe that is something I can pass to Knight to get his thoughts.

                        Thank you for the info.

I think I get it, though I do have another question(s).

How do I get access to the roster file to see what is there and make changes? Do we use last years?

Also is there a quick "update all" type thing or do you do each one by hand one at a time like I suspect?

I don't do faces all that well, but stances, gear, and stats I think I do fairly well. At least good enough for my own uses.

I am thinking Crick may have the best shot at an A as well. Brown is too up and down, though he definitely has major upside. I think Panik will surprise folks, he has a quick bat.

What about Nick Noonan, I see him no where. Is he assumed to be a full time big leaguer now? I keep hearing his name with ties to being part of the roster.

What about Nick Noonan, I see him no where. Is he assumed to be a full time big leaguer now? I keep hearing his name with ties to being part of the roster.
Noonan will definitely be in the roster set. I haven't added many names quite yet. He's likely going to open up the season as the starting SS for Fresno. Seems like he is next in line at SS.

We start from scratch. Basically, we'll divide up the players and you'll work from your own roster file. Once you complete all your players, you send them to me.

Yea, and each player has to be created one at a time.
