    Ethical Question

When you are playing someone else (in the same room, sitting side-by-side), and he is on offense, do you look at his 3 plays on the screen when he is choosing what to run?

Not looking at his controller to see which play he selects, but look at the 3 options on the screen to get a better idea of what defense to select.

    Thoughts?

So how innovate was the Dreamcast and 2k for allowing play selection from the VMU.

While i cant help it 100% of the time I try to look away i think its cheating. This buddy of mine i would whoop him in our NCAA online dynasty, Im talking like a record of probly like 20-2 over 3 years. But in person he would beat me sometimes because he would look at my plays every time and and do stuff like "sniff out the screens" every single time and BS like that. I called him out so he tried using like the oppisite DE and running over to stop the screen like that was less obvious lol.

I dont run all screens it was just an example.

            Re: Ethical Question

I try not to, but it's nearly impossible not to since it's only a few inches from where you are looking. It also chops out large chunks of your playbook, since if there's only one play with motion on the selection screen - then there's only two possibilities if no one moves and one if they do.
Bills, Sabres, Illini, Cubs, basically any team that abuses its fanbase and I'm there.

Screen-looking, be it in football playcalling or a first-person shooter, is just an unfortunate reality of the situation in a local multiplayer setting. Fortunately, with the bluff playcalling feature this can be minimized.

I actually don't - and can't remember ever doing it.

I'm sure I did it when I was younger (because that just makes sense), but it was never a habitual thing. Always seemed cheap to me.

I would say absolutely do it. If he is a savvy player then he will bluff the play call.

With 5 audibles, bluff play calls, and your quick audibles you can disguise what you are doing easily.

                    Re: Ethical Question

I have a nephew who was teaching his new step father how to play. He only showed him how to call plays using the play type so he could tell 100% sure if it was run/pass. lol....I just found that out last weekend, so I called the guy and show him how to really call plays. I thought it was funny, and somehow relevant to this topic.

For me it is one of those things that it depends on what extreme it is taken to and who you are playing against.

ps. I should add that he was then using the run/pass commit playmaker options with this. That poor guy didn't stand a chance.

I don't look at all but my little brother will all the time. I always got pissed but then I started "Hot Routing" my recievers on run plays and then "Flipping the run" any chance I got or I'd "Flip" it but only the direction it already was going. Its very easy to overcome this in Madden. In COD I just stop playing.

on-topic: when I play head to head I most definitely look at my opponents 3 plays. checking for motion plays or if I see a screen pass in there, thats the first thing I check when the play starts.

off-topic: We usually just use 'ask madden' and we always laugh when 3 run plays come up. I wish madden would throw in maybe one passing play as a fake out, or better yet, go back to giving us 6 plays instead of 3. at least give us 3 plays from the same formation? anything would help.

This +infinity. I loved the way using the VMU forced me to learn my plays by name and memorize the playart, like they do in real football, because the VMU didn't show it. I am so hoping that this is utilized again on the new consoles since the controllers will have touch screens.

On topic, I can't believe some of the stuff I have read in this thread, all you freaking cheaters out there, lol.

I have NEVER looked at my opponents plays head to head on the same console and for years we had a look away rule. Only after the offense picked their play could the defense look at the screen to choose theirs. Even before that rule or when at someone's place that didn't use it, I wouldn't look at anyone's plays. I just don't get what's fun about cheating to win.
