The Coaching Career of Stanley Benbow

    February 14, 2012

Eastern Michigan University has fired Head Coach Ron English after an 8-28 (.222) record over 3 years. Athletic Director Derrick Gragg was quoted "We are tired of the losing mentality our football program has, today we begin to change that!"

Ron English coached 3 years for the Eastern Michigan University Eagles 2009, 2010, 2011 and had records of 0-12, 2-10, and 6-6 respectively. The team did show improvement, but the 6-6 record had two victories coming against FCS schools. Keeping the Eagles out of a bowl yet again. Bringing their postseason drought to 24 seasons. A 24 season bowl drought is the 2nd longest current bowl drought, behind the New Mexico State Aggies drought of 51 seasons.

Whoever the new Head Coach is will have a daunting task ahead of him. As well as the pressure from Athletic Director Derrick Gragg to win immediately!

Re: The Coaching Career of Stanley Benbow

    March 2, 2012

The Eastern Michigan University Eagles have officially hired their new Head football coach!

Stanley Benbow will be the new Head Coach at EMU. This is a very unconventional hire, considering Benbow was fired from his previous job, which was a offensive coordinator job at Rutgers University, for failure to cooperate with his head coach. Stanley Benbow was quoted calling his previous head coach Greg Schiano "An Idiot".

Benbow, born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI, was the starting quarterback for Florida State University and was drafted in the 5th round by the New York Giants. He was backup to Eli Manning for 2 years before getting cut for failing to follow the National Football League's Conduct policy. He hung up his cleats and decided to start coaching. Benbow became a quarterbacks coach at Florida State, two years later, he got an offensive coordinator job offer from Nevada. Then Rutgers offered him an offered him a offensive coordinator job the very next year and Benbow jumped at it. He coordinated the offense of Rutgers for 2 years before he was fired.

He was fired two years ago, and now is the new Head Coach of our Eastern Michigan Eagles. Coach Benbow runs a Pistol style offense, and a 4-3 defense. We all at EMU pray that Coach Benbow can be cooperative with everyone on the team and can use his brash personality to turn this team around!

Coach Benbow has signed a 2 year contract, monetary details were withheld. Hopefully he can win more than 2 games in his first two years.

                      August 31, 2012

The Eastern Michigan Eagles returned home from Muncie, Indiana with a victory. The offense seemed to thrive under Coach Benbow's pistol offense. Quarterback Tyler Benz threw 62% for 385 yards and 3 TD's. Former quarterback Alex Gillett showed his overall athleticism by catching 10 passes for 151 yards and 1 TD. Donald Scott, the player of the game, caught 8 passes for 146 yards and 2 TD's. The only possible drawback was quarterback Tyler Benz, with 6 players catching his passes, but 18 of the 27 completions were to 2 receivers. Hopefully he can keep up the production even if teams lock down his top two receivers.

Coach Benbow never seemed pleased with him team as the game went on. He was on his players every time they made a mistake, in their faces and drilling perfection into their minds. He was quoted in the post-game press conference saying, "Our players played sloppy today, we made a lot of mistakes. 4 turnovers is completely unacceptable, our defense let up a lot of big plays and that's not acceptable either. Our offense will NOT continue to turn the ball over at the rate we saw today or significant changes will be made soon."

Coach Benbow, through his intensity, is showing that he expects perfection right away and is not complacent with just winning. The trait that every athletic director searches for in a coach. There are still question surrounding Coach Benbow, but after 1 game he seems like mediocrity is not "acceptable" in this coaches eyes.
