Re: Best/Worst fanbases?
I'm curious what you mean by this. Is there something you know that I don't?
Other than Granger mouthing off or Vogel saying some edgy things every now and then, the team has been classy on the court, good in the community(from what I've read.. don't live in Indy anymore so don't quote me), and haven't had any issues off the court either. If people are still holding onto Artest punching dudes and Tinsley/Jackson getting arrested and all that garbage that's been in past for half a decade now then so be it. They're obviously not moving on.Indianapolis Colts

It's funny, we've got some clients in Indy and they all say the same thing that dunny pointed out....they're definitely still burned by those earlier Pacer teams..
I think it's the strangest thing...lolComment

Like I said, don't think it's wise to get too deep into the conversation, but from things that I've heard about Indy, the same knock that lingers around Boston can apply there.I'm curious what you mean by this. Is there something you know that I don't?

Re: Best/Worst fanbases?
Here's a quote from the Indy Star by George Hill after the recent home lost to the Lakers.
“It sucks. It was 70 (Lakers fans) – 30 (Pacers fans) out there. These are the same people that wants autographs after the game. We’re out there in the community. We’re doing our job, doing what we’re supposed to do on and off the court. Something has to change. I tip my hat to this team. We’ve been trouble free. Been out in the community shaking hands, we’re winning. It shouldn’t feel like an away game, especially with an important like this. Tonight, that’s what it felt like.”
Talking about being out in the community and the team staying trouble free makes it seem like Hill believes something is being held against the team.
What I see is mostly fans using the Pacers past as an excuse to not root for the Pacers. Unfortunately it seems like it's a common theme throughout Indiana though in regards to how people feel about the Pacers. They latched onto that stereotype of the Pacers being thugs from the mid 00's and it hasn't changed with time even though the Pacers team makeup has.
But, it's faster and easier to damage your reputation than it is to build it back up and I think right now the Pacers organization is seeing that happen. It may just take more time to build that reputation back up. And winning. Right now the Pacers are doing the winning, if that keeps up for the next season or two I definitely see the pacers gaining more fan support. It just sucks for the current team who deserve the fan support now.Comment

So are you suggesting the Pacers find a way to get Cody Zeller then?#RespectTheCultureComment

Portland fans were over the Jailblazers way before Damian or Gregory...at least it seemed that way...Comment

We're they?
Serious question because I have no idea especially teams in the Pacific Northwest were rarely talked about on the East Coast.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Best/Worst fanbases?
After some thought, I think I get what you're hinting at now, don't buy it at all though. I never got that sense in any of my time living there. Not once. They drew great attendance until the brawl happened and even some time after it I believe. I don't think it was until Tinsley and Jackson were getting into off the court issues where we saw the support really start to decrease.Indianapolis Colts

Re: Best/Worst fanbases?
Yes, Blazers fans made it very clear that they would not continue to support a team that didn't represent themselves well. It was more than just the legal problems (DUIs, marijuana possession, dog fighting, assault/domestic/sexual abuse), they also had to put up with stuff like Bonzi Wells being quoted in SI as saying: “the fans really don’t matter to us. They can boo us every day, but they’re still going to ask for our autographs if they see us on the street.”
By 04-05 the attendance had dropped from the top 10 to the bottom 10, hitting an all-time low in...
05-06 was the last of the "JailBlazers" years, and also the worst team record-wise (21-61) since the franchise's 3rd season. Thankfully, management was paying attention and got rid of the remaining problem guys, as well as drafting Roy and Aldridge in the following off-season. The fans took a year to come around, but the Blazers were back in the top 10 in average attendance in 07-08, and have been top 5 every year since then."The power of accurate observation is often called cynicism, by those who don't have it." - George Bernard ShawComment

Re: Best/Worst fanbases?
Regarding that Bonzi Wells quote specifically, the man isn't lying.
Shoot, I'd guarantee that despite being the most hated man in Sports in 2010-11, Lebron still had those same people that were booing him, asking him for his autograph every night and probably the case for any other NBA star.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Best/Worst fanbases?
Case in point. Whoever that was trying to get his headband at the UC tonight. Chicago still boos LeBron whenever he touches the ball and yet somebody was seriously trying to get his headband from him?Regarding that Bonzi Wells quote specifically, the man isn't lying.

Re: Best/Worst fanbases?
Well, I think the empty arena speaks much louder than still wanting an autograph.
If the fans were still paying their money to go watch those JailBlazers play then that's a different story. But they stopped supporting them with their wallets. So yeah, an autograph is cool and all but that really doesn't compare to paying cash to watch them play. An autograph is free, lol.Comment
