Re: Don't Expect a Change in the NFL License Status Quo
When I look back at Madden 2004, 2005 and ESPN NFK 2K4 and 2K5 all I can think to myself is what happened? 9 years ago we had some of the best football video games ever made and now we have this. Things were supposed to get better weren't they? Something has gone horribly wrong here. Just imagine for a moment if that exclusive deal never happened after Madden 05 and NFL 2K5. We would have moved to the PS3 and 360 with both companies coming off their best football games, moving forward to get even better. Can you just imagine what we might have had now if that competition was allowed to continue? Instead one is forced out, the other gets lazy knowing they are the only game in town, and we the gamers suffer for it.
It's a shame that a sub par product has been able to continue to succeed for all these years and it's even more of a shame that I took part in helping it succeed. NO MORE!Comment

Madden, and probably a lot of the gaming industry these days in general."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Don't Expect a Change in the NFL License Status Quo
Madden isn't the superpower of sports video games as it use too be when we entered the current gen consoles. As a matter of fact, it's become a laughing stalk of gaming in certain aspects. Look at the SHOW, FIFA and NBA 2k. Which is always being praised for there evolution, and gameplay. Only thing holding MADDEN together this current console is its NAME and exclusive license. Yes it's better than 2006 version, but the same flaws that started with 2006 is still there, except for a physics engine and better graphics. Gameplay wise, so many fundamentals are missing and presentation is better, it can't compare with the show and other games. Sales aren't that good on a global viewpoint either. There not selling as much units as in prior years, so it's going too see the direction that they take next-gen. NCAA football is a prime example of stagnant direction and a uncertain future.Comment

It's unfortunate you misunderstood what I was trying to state, I wasn't referring to the exclusive, I was referring to the initial NFL license acquired in 1993 for Madden 94. My point was it's the NFL brand that was and is behind Madden's popularity with the masses and hardcore a like, yet EA Tiburon seems to have forgotten that fact this entire gen.Comment

I think Sega should acquire the license and bring back the greatest football game of all time: NFL FOOTBALL 94 STARING JOE MONTANA!!! For any of the younger generation who may have missed this game, try to find an emulator and play it now. This game inspired a lot of the features that we still have in sports video games today. Of course it would have to be updated for today so it would naturally be Staring Tom Brady.Comment

Re: Don't Expect a Change in the NFL License Status Quo
Its the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, FIFA, PGA etc brand that is behind EVERY sports games success, how many sports games have survived without a major license? All Pro was a sales disaster and that even had real life players, Back Breaker and The Blitz couldn't survive without a license. But I dont understand how that point has been lost on EA Tiburon. Do they not put out a realistic representation of the NFL in each of their games? You may not agree with the direction of the game but that is an entirely different argument.Comment
-
What's not realistic about it? Do they not include all 32 NFL teams? Do they not have authentic uniforms? Do they not have every stadium? Are the rules of football different in Madden than the real NFL? Do they have Ron Mexico instead of Mike Vick? Again you may not agree with the direction of certain aspects of the game such as CCM or the physics engine but that has nothing to do with authenticity.Comment

At least give examples instead of just highlighting what I wrote. The rules of football are pretty straightforward, 11 on 11, TD counts for 7 points, FG is 3 points. What is not authentic about Madden's rules?Comment

Re: Don't Expect a Change in the NFL License Status Quo
I've personally enjoyed Madden a ton this year, but I'm not blind to areas where the developers should focus their attention to improve the game's ability to replicate what we see on Sundays.
EDIT - aaaaaaaaand he's banned. Whomp.Comment

Re: Don't Expect a Change in the NFL License Status Quo
Didn't know if this should be a thread starter, so, I just put it here instead.
Credit goes to someon on the NCAA forums on this one.
Now, let's be real here.
A. Not everything is shared by Madden and NCAA, but hopefully, if I get the jist of this tweet, hopefully, this might be in Madden too.
Also, could be pure speculation, no need to jump the gun, yet.
We'll see and we'll find out more this week.
Stay tuned.

Damn man, Its sad, but true. That was a good read. Also, it hard to market a football game without the licensing, So it is almost impossible to make some noise with another APF or a generic football game. It is great for the consumer, but it's not a $65 dollar, or a must buy, period.Comment
