    Lessons learned...go and play!

    Strange thread title i know.

Basically, the last few years, ive generally messed around too much when waiting to start my franchise, i would always say to myself things like:

    - your sliders arent tested enough
    - wait for the OSFM OD Set
    - then, may as well for re-rates/pitch edits etc
    - there may be another patch, wait for that

...and on and on it went, i was giving myself any excuse not to just go and actually play the game, due to this i was always struggling to get my franchise in (i play all 162), and indeed, get at least two full seasons in, as is my wish.

Well, this year its different, ive finally wised up.

My sliders? Yeah, they may require the odd tweak in future but i doubt it and they play great as it is.

Rosters? This release of OSFM will do just fine, i can make any corrections i want myself, why wait for another set?

Patch? Already had the big one, it fixed everything i really wanted to, so what if there is another mini one, it will work on existing games anyway.

So, basically, what AM i worrying about? Why didnt i just start and play in years gone by?

    NO MORE i tell you!

So...my message to others in a similar boat thinking about waiting for this, that and the other that they "must have", before starting their franchises...learn from my painful lessons and get started, enjoy the game and go and play.

Im sure im not the only one whos come to see the light where this game and waiting is concerned.

My franchise starts today, and will NOT be restarting, because ive also learned if you keep restarting you simply never finish what you started.

If you are a little OCD and absolutely HAVE to wait for all the edits and re-rates that OSFM will get in the months to come, fair play to you, each to his own and all that, but me, well, i used to be like that, but like i say, lesson learned

    Lets play ball!

^^ funny you bring up this topic. Last year, I was on here everyday waiting for OSFM roster updates, patch information (even though my game didn't seem affected) and it got to the point where I was like wtf am I doing. This version of the OSFM is great as it is. Ya it would be nice to have all the pitch edits, equipment edits, etc but you're supposed to be only focusing on your team, so you can make those changes yourself. Ill be starting over the next few days but not because I'm waiting for any updates or anything because as you said, time to play ball!!

100% agree with you. I am taking this version of the OSFM rosters and going with it. Last year I think I started 6 Astros franchises and never got very far into it. What is the fun in replaying the years where they are terrible six times? Seriously I don't know what I was doing.

This year I am with you. I have the rosters and it is time to start! Heck it might take me a decade to turn this team around as it is haha!

I agree so much bulk. Each year I say I need to wait for more updated os. I need to wait till a sound pack is release. No more I got my os dl. I removed everyone non MLB off the 40 man so the CPU won't make moves. Since I do one player franchise. The only thing I'm going to do is use last year stadium sounds and forget about player music and finally start my franchise. For the first time play a whole 162 game season. Now I just got to figure out what team to be lol.

          Yep.

The major things we all really want to start our franchises with i.e. the patch and OSFM, are here now, why wait?!

          Good man.

Exactly, the quicker you start to rebuild those lowly 'stros, the more chance you have of actually succeeding in the long run.

Man I'm exactly in that situation now, have been waiting for release day, waiting for the patch, waiting for the OSFM roster.. now I'm not sure if I should wait again for the OD OFSM release to start my franchise.
This is my first full year with The Show, so I don't know how significant the changes will be in the OD set and if there are few really big errors in the OSFM version 1. Also if it should drop in just a few days it might be stupid not to wait.. no idea how long the guys will need.

I couldn't have said any of this better myself. Honestly, the full minors roster is what I wait for. Having the first real major patch is great too. After that, I really don't worry about all the little things that will be updated. I honestly don't care if the back-up infielder from the Seattle Mariners has the proper equipment or not. I don't care if they the 6th guy in the Astro's bullpen has the exact pitch types to match real life.

As a Tigers fan, I'll go through and make sure that pitch types match up for the MLB roster and maybe a couple guys in the minors that I might have to call up during the year due to injuries or something. I really don't even care about equipment for my own team. I might tweak some of the ratings of guys if I think the original roster over or under rated them, but I'll only do that for the Tigers since those are the players I'll really be paying attention to closely. (I mean really, do I care if an outfielder in the National League has an overrated throwing arm?? No.)

It's time to play ball and I couldn't be more excited. Now I just need to get out of work tonight to really get a good look at the OSFM roster in the vault (It came out way too late last night for a guy on Eastern Time that had to be up at 6 AM this morning for work)
If it looks good, you'll see it.
If it sounds good, you'll hear it.
If it's marketed right, you'll buy it.
But... if it's real, you'll feel it.

The OD set could be a few days away, it could be a week or two away, who knows, frankly i dont want to sit around waiting any more for what will be very minor changes.

I have started my chise, one team control, left the CPU to do as it wants with its rosters, looked through the transactions after skipping Spring Training and honestly, there were very few changes to what the real life MLB lineups looked like to be fair, nothing headscratching at all as far i could see, and even if there was, its your own fantasy MLB world now, you are not trying mimic real life, its not really possible anyway.

It really depends. As long as the 25 man roster is correct, I assume the computer will make changes to the rotations and line-ups during the year anyways, so making changes to the roster up front just seems like a waste of time. I'll update the team I'm going to play with, but I don't see any reason to change around line-ups and rotations around the league that will just be changed by the computer anyways.

Obviously, this is different if you're someone that controls all 30 teams instead of just controlling one team in franchise mode.

Is the 25 man roster set in the current OSFM?
I'm planning to do a 30 team control franchise but only cos I want to be able to keep an eye on the trades, lineups and rotations would be up to the CPU. In that case is there even a point in having them correct according to real life at the beginning of the season?

Actually, I don't know this for sure. I thought it was, but I haven't had a chance to look at the roster, so maybe someone else can answer this. I thought that was part of the OSFM group's plan though. I was pretty sure they had accurate 25 man rosters for all levels of each team (MLB, AAA, AA). Then all players with injuries (i.e. Johan Santana) were placed in single A ball along with other lower level prospects since you can't place someone on the disabled list in the game without a game induced injury

The computer will update line-ups and rotations to their liking after spring training for teams you aren't controlling unless you play under 30 team control. Even then, you can have the computer set their own line-ups and rotations (as someone else described, one main reason for 30 team control is to keep an eye on computer generated trades).

It's up to you though, you can go through and make all the changes if you wish, but I'm pretty sure the computer will handle this for themselves if you're only controlling one team. It might not be accurate to real life, but odds are the computer will make changes during the year and things won't remain true to real life anyways in the long run
