Re: First Madden NFL 25 Screenshot, First Details on Run Free Ball Carrier Feature

I'll tell you another thing that gives me pause about what we've seen from NCAA thus far, and that's all the new 'option' animations. On the surface, more animations are a very good thing.

HowEVAH, we saw what improved passing animations did for M13. It lead to ALL QBs pretty much sharing the new animations. Sig animations largely went out the window. All QBs shared the same dropbacks, and held the ball in the same exact positions.

I can appreciate improvement in the name of realism, but not completely at the expense of "likeness" for individual players. I don't want Tom Brady using the same dropback as Tim Tebow just b/c the play calls for a five step drop. The game starts to feel too generic then, IMO.

At a high level, I would think that would be one of the improvements that Tiburon touts in the previews. But of what I've read, most of the improvement has come in the form of logic i.e. knowing who to block. I don't know that these improvements will make me fear teams w/ the best pass rushers.

We'll see though. My interest is more vested in what's coming for next gen, whenever that is.
As long as that patty cake animation is gone, I'm a semi-happy camper. I couldn't stand that and it sound like it is less frequent.

I don't think that would appease you, Road. Even if they removed the patty cake animation(s), if the tackles don't open their hips & kickslide + DEs don't drive forward to force the QB to step up in the pocket, we're still going to have those same legacy issues. That's what I want Clint to bring to the team -- not just direction on who should block who.

And again, I'm not saying tackle/DE interaction has been ignored. But if it were addressed and overhauled, I think it would've been a point of emphasis in the coverage we've seen today. And I haven't seen that.

I don't disagree, I guess we'll find out later if they went the extra step with that this year.

I personally am a functionality over visuals person. As long as it works the way it is supposed to I can forgive the visuals for it for a year or 2. The visuals can always be changed, in the end it is just an animation. But if the "feature" doesnt work the way it is supposed to (like countless additions to madden) that is the thing that pisses me off.

The very first time I played M13, my very first thought was the players felt like they were floating in comparison to 12. It seemed like everyone was weightless. I think this new physics engine lacks any sense of weight. But I have seen in real life RB's plow through a LB and get lit up by a small DB like Bernie Pollard or Adrian Wilson.

In some cases, I fully concur. And let me not get carried away -- I don't at all know what the blocking looks in these next slate of football games. Just pure speculation here.

In this case, I think the visual and functionality go hand & hand. Sure, DE/OLBs aren't rushing the passer w/ their ears pinned back on every pass play. But for the times that they should, that can't be replicated in Madden b/c the animation support isn't there. Although that may seem like a visual thing, that impacts the necessity (or lack thereof) to step up in the pocket to find room to make a throw. What you then have [again] is users scrambling from side to side of the field to find space to make a throw rather than working within the confines of the pocket.

It's all a moot point though til we see blocking footage though.

Agreed, seems like they did more tweaking, maybe a little more than in the past, but still just tweaking.

In fairness though, there supposed to be more we haven't seen today. Even though I am not sure how well it will be done it seems likely the other things touted will improve edge rushing by default. They have already touted hand fighting or conceptual awareness, where players, including defenders use their hands to fight through traffic. So like Road alluded to, if the patty cake is addressed and pass rushers are now looking to avoid waltzing with the Tackles, that seems like a core improvement to edge rushing.

                    We will see though.

To be honest, I doubt they will change much gameplay wise, they will say they will and make it look like they have but they wont.

Why I don't like it.. Look at the 2 pics and see how different they are? Madden Foster looks like he is white, has no tattoos, and the worst is how skinny he looks.. The player models still look off and a bit cartoony.. At least the lighting looks good..

That's the best they can do for The first screenshot?

God help us all, it's gonna be a disaster.

While he looks skinny compared to the picture you posted, compared to the other character model (Von Miller) his size looks about right. I think the skin color has more to do with the new lighting effects than the hue. The missing tattoo's has nothing to do with EA, Roger Goodell won't allow them in video games he thinks it creates a negative image. But at the end of the day it is a video game. It is never going to look ultra-photo realistic to everybody. There will always be something that's off to some people.

I'd say it about represents Foster well aside from the lower body being a bit thin

Also looks like Sidelines have been ignored...again....

All the players standing in a row, looking straight ahead, probably all the same number, all white, and doing nothing but fist pumping every 3 seconds.
