    Fantasy Draft House Rules

Now that the OSFM rosters are out I plan on doing a fantasy draft to begin my franchise. The CPU draft logic seems much improved this year which is a huge bonus, however I still find myself drafting only players 29 & under knowing how the regression system works in this game. I was thinking about forcing myself to draft a player over 30 every third pick for the first 30 rounds and then every fifth pick for the remainder of the draft for a more age balanced roster.

Anyone else have any self-imposed house rules they use for Fantasy Drafts to increase the difficulty and prevent your roster from filling up with younger players?
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust 'em.

I may actually do this myself. Like you said, knowing the regression I rarely take a player over 32 or 33 unless they are elite or one of my favorites. I just hate knowing that by the end of the season they could potentially be 10 points worse. :/

Not usually on my main fantasy drafts, I usually just draft the guys I feel comfortable playing with (which is why I never draft Harper, can't use him in this game)... But sometime for a challenge I will draft the first two rounds, get my ace and my lineup cornerstone then simulate the rest and work with whatever the CPU drafts for me, it's interesting what the CPU comes out with sometimes...

I also just draft guys I like! Usually the best player on the board at most times, just trying to get my team to be balanced! If I had to say I usually focus on hitting as I am more comfortable pitching with less than stellar guys than I am hitting! I rarely do fantasy drafts but I'm really considering doing one after reading this thread, maybe going with Pete_Dogg's idea and drafting my ace and offensive cornerstone and letting the CPU do the rest! Seems like a fun way to go!

It is quite fun, I did one earlier in the year while playing around waiting for OSFM... I drafted Mike Trout and Maddison Bumgarner and let the CPU go for it... Can't remember the full team but I remember having Mo closing, Yasmani Grandal catching and only 2 3B which made things difficult as I really didn't have a utility guy either...

This method takes a LONG time, but I prefer to use 30-team control and draft for every team.

This way, you don't have guys like Bryce Harper inexplicably lasting until the 5th round. The computer is horrible at drafting.

As fun as it is to have a McCutchen/Harper/J.Upton outfield, it's terribly unrealistic. but then again so are fantasy drafts...

                Me too I have Trout/Harper/J.Upton

                I also drafted Bumgarner early

I wanted Lawrie at third and got him, and I really wanted Sal Perez behind the plate, but I didnt get him so I had to trade some prospect I got to get him after the draft.

I also traded for some other players but none that were like top players, just people I wanted on my bench or bullpen that I enjoy playing with (Ziegler, Heisey, Hinske) just to name a couple

I tend to focus on pitching (after I get 1 big bigger who will be my main run producer) But age isnt super important but I am careful not to load up on older guys

That's the thing, I don't want to abuse the system. I want to have a realistic (albeit fantasy) lineup. I've tried using the real MLB teams, but become too involved in making sure the lineup and trade logic mimics real life. Fantasy drafts allow me to use the MLB players/teams without being concerned with silly trades or lineup logic.

I've come to the conclusion that I will draft one 30+yo player every 4th pick for the first half of the draft and allow the CPU to autodraft the remainder. This should give me a fairly accurate number of older players on my 90 man roster.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust 'em.
