Re: NCAA Football 14 Video - First Look at New Gameplay Engine
Good video Sim, I tend to agree at this point, any substantial change won't be until the new consoles, if ever. It does seems this current team is just laying a good foundation on the current consoles and hopefully as they are porting or whatever they are doing for the new consoles, a lot of the "scar tissue" from this console gen will be absent.
I was thinking last night, we probably won't know if M25 is a release title for the new consoles until around October because they would want to steal any of M25's thunder on these consoles.Comment

Thanks Fam. Yeah man, that's the way I'm feeling. I think what's going on now is they are making adjustments to the core gameplay enging they have now, but not recoding. I can understand why, stuff like that takes a while to do. Still no excuse though, but I can understand what's happening. I said all along that EA SPORTS needs to show a change in direction before they can leap forward, these building blocks goes along with my statement. I'm expecting to see the under the hood stuff addressed on next gen.SimComment

It's those things like that, which you notice once the hype has died down that concerns me even about next-gen.Comment

Were you a part of the CD event this year? I realize you cant comment on specifics, just curious if you were invited to the event.Comment

Re: NCAA Football 14 Video - First Look at New Gameplay Engine
How confident are you that they actually "get it" though and by "they" I mean whoever has been forcing EA football to create hybrid games? Reason I ask is because although the things being shown are encouraging on paper, there still seems to be that impression of doing it to do it, not doing it to get it right. Like one of the main things that stand out in that video the more I see it, is the lack of reaching by defenders, which draws attention to how bad the pursuit angles are. There is a part in the video where a #42 runs right by the ball carrier and falls in line behind him. I understand if this console gen somehow limits them from improving pursuit angles but does it also limit them from having defenders extend their arms to reach for the ball carrier to slow him and them down from running right past them?

I really hope that they are pouring a ton of resources into the next-gen Madden. I just pray that they do not make that same mistake again. They need to build a LEGIT football game engine, and layer some of these strides they have been making over the last few years on top. (And 10X more)
Personally, I have lost all hope in this current engine and them putting "lip stick on a pig" per say. However, I have not lost faith in these developers, and hopefully they are building a masterpiece of an engine for PS4/XBOX 720. I am excited to see what they can do once they get the training wheel taken off (current engine) and can develop on more solid ground.
I hope, and expect, after these last 8 years of (IMO) horrible football gaming. That when they finally reveal the next-gen Madden, we will all be completely wow'd, just like many of us were in that Next-Gen teaser video in 2006.Comment

Re: NCAA Football 14 Video - First Look at New Gameplay Engine
Also, I would be very dissapointed if we get a shell of a game, like Madden 06 was, for the first iteration of Madden on the XBOX 720/PS4. I think many people have the misperception that the first game of a console generation is bare bones. I do not feel that way at all, sure Madden 06 was, but I remember the first iteration of Madden on PS2 (2001?) was AMAZING for its time.
I think Madden 06' and this last generation of consoles was more of an anomaly then an industry standard.
My .02 cents.Comment

Read both of your comments and I'm with you all the way, couldn't agree more. I been telling that they can't have the same situation as Madden 06 when they drop on the new consoles, I tell them all the time the reason I bought a 360 was because of that trailer. I will never forget that, my who quest for simulation stems from that situation. I might make a video about that actually. Good comments man!Comment

They need to take the extra time and really make the next-gen version amazing like it was in 2001. Wait til next year when the next-gen console customer base is bigger instead of being greedy wanting every little penny they can get. And if they did come out with the next-gen games this year, do you really think they will make it so good that people wouldn't want to buy the current version which they make the most money from now? probably not. So I don't see how coming out with the next-gen football games will benefit us in anyway.Comment
