Re: NBA 2K13 Roster Update Details (4-16-13)

I don't really see many complaints about game play. Game play can always get better but most of the complaints are directly with the rosters.

If NBA 2k14 had no new game play changes and just knocked the rosters out of the park with more sig skills and creative things and lots of time spent into every roster update. I doubt anyone would complain and I bet it would shatter NBA 2k sales records.

If I was in charge of rosters I would want a real time chat. To get into this chat you would have to register the roster code that came with the game and create a roster account. You would only get 1 user name account per game purchase. Would make people be a little more careful how they act and post.

It would kinda be like Facebook's chat.

As the roster guy it would be the greatest thing a roster editor could have. I would read through every comment and spend at least a hr everyday talking to the community about players and suggestions and what needs to be changed for the next roster update. i would probably pop in and out through the day.

It would make the community feel and be a big part of the roster updates. I would let them know ahead of time what im looking to change and ask for impute. I would even pop in at night when im watching as many basketball games as I can.

Thats how rosters should be done. This is 2013. As a social media guy I think you understand how important it has become now days.

I would spend the same amount of time on every player and every team. There would not be a player missed or left out and not a jersey number wrong that wouldn't get correct the next week. If someone said hey this guys jersey number was wrong in the roster update I would make sure its changed in the next.

While I like the idea of some kind of social media feedback, these things have the potential to backfire quickly, if every fanboy could simply start spamming about their hero "getting ignored", "deserving more sig skills" and other stuff...you'd lose your mind.
That does not mean I don't like your idea at all, it's definitely a step in the right direction.
But social media should mainly be used for art updates (acessories, shoes, numbers), and not for the kind of rating overreactions you'll often find in roster threads. So for the visual aspect, it would be nice to maybe have fans of certain teams point out recent gear changes, so the roster devs can focus on more important issues.

To me, the main focus should be to at least get the fundamentals right. If a player is a good rebounder in real life, he should be in 2k14, too. If he's a great mid range spot up shooter, the game should reflect that. But even this simple stuff requires a level of basketball knowledge the "insider" either doesn't possess or can't/isn't allowed to use for editing rosters right now.

How about 2k hire somestatistics experts. Let them n on the ratings formulas and let them translate all of the advanced stats into the ratings. And have some former nba scouts give some of their knowledge since everything ain't about the stats.

Might cost some $ but you will get some realistic ratings.

          This won't happen tho

          Insider sucks balls tho
I thank him for takin care of my knicks

Wouldn't even be necessary, community rosters like Slimm's already use advanced stats, and these guys were able to create these rosters besides having a real job...it's simply a matter of at least knowing some basic stuff about the NBA. So if you ask the "insider" if Josh Smith is a great mid range shooter, or if Gordon Hayward is athletic, he should at least know a little bit about the job he's supposed to do.
But it seems like you could pick some random guy from the street and wouldn't notice much difference.

The important ratings "seem" biased for certain players and certain teams. Kobe is not an above average three point shooter. Jefferson and butler are no longer above average offensive players. Al jefferson is a better rebounder than milsap. Horford is a better mid range shooter than josh. Iggy is not an elite scorer. It just seems like there is an agenda to make certain players and teams unrealistically good.

The game is good. But the ratings and tendencies hurt its realism.

I don't want to start a debate here, but Jefferson is definitely an above average offensive player. To average 17/18 points on that Jazz team that was loaded with frontcourt depth is impressive. I'd dare to say that if Al was on a bad team that he'd average 20+ and 10.

But other than that, I agree with everything you said.

EDIT: Just realized you might be referencing Richard Jefferson. Probably should've made that clearer lol

You are correct sir. I meant richard jefferson is overrated. Al Jefferson is legit, definetly above average offensively.

He is quite effective on this game. They need to make ball handling more realistic so that Richard Jefferson is not a go to scorer. Being able to dunk and shoot does not make you an elite scorer in real life. However, since everyone can handle the ball on this game certain wings in the 6'7 to 6'9 range become overly effective if they have speed or a jump shot.

Did you guys know that Joel Anthony is actually a better shot blocker than Larry Sanders? Well, the 2k insider says so, he knows what he's doing, right?
Also, Josh Smith is a better shooter than O.J.Mayo, we all know that...

Seriously, is some 12 year old doing rosters for 2k? So they're "having great talks with the 2k insider"...about what exactly?

The 2k insider might be a insider but he doesn't know anything about nba basketball player ratings.

What is he a E insider who writes about the Kardashians.

Whats next... 2k sports letting the insider work on association mode. New feature where some of your players on your team could date a kardashian and you will see them in the stands.

I think this has a better chance of happening than getting the rosters we deserve and pay for.

Yeah, the whole gimmick got old a long time ago. It's simply "roster guy", but "2k insider" sounds cooler and could be marketed as some kind of great idea...
