Faces from M13 that need scans or updating in Madden 25

Hey guys I know a lot of people have seen the article about the screenshot of Russell Wilson looking like Kwame from Captain Planet so that gave me the idea of making a thread with all the players from each team that need a face scan update due to having generic faces currently, or hairstyle & facial hair changes. List the players name that you want and ill add them to this post and in a week or so ill tweet the link for this thread to the devs. I know I'm not the only guy who hates seeing my favorite players look like cartoons gone wrong or having no resemblance whatsoever to their real life counterpart so lets get this done and get it over to the devs and fix it once and for all. Obviously we can't have every real face in the game but let's try and at least get players with an 85+OVR so list those players please.

Wouldnt it be easier to name the players that DONT need their faces updated? Seriously, they should just copy every player's photo off of nfl.com or the team website and scan the photo onto the player model to get the closest match possible.

Also, they should add back in ALL the editing that used to be in like facial hair, tattoos, etc. so we can edit the players that need to be edited on our own.

Man KC doesn't get any love from EA. Half the roster looks generic. I dunno if this is worth adding to the OP, but ever since he was drafted Kicker Ryan Succop has had a bald head and a generic face. Needless to say, that's not what he looks like

Not to undermine the purpose of this thread. But shouldn't all of these guys get face scans? Or at the very least EA could use their own game face tech, and use the frontal pictures that EVERY NFL PLAYER takes at training camp and use them?

Is it a lot of time consuming work? Yes it is, but that isn't that what interns are for? After you have built the database it would be easier year after year as you would only need to do the new rookies.

But again I apologize JP I don't want to derail your thread.

I'm sure they will have tons more faces scanned in next gen, but for now I would just like to compile a list of 5-10 key players from each team in hopes that we can get some of them in before M25 launches.

I have to agree. Every team website has player portraits. It's on the dev art team to actually use them. I'd like to see more attention given to player builds as well. Some guys are just too jacked up, and their proportions are off. I really do hope they add player editing back this year.

Stevie Johnson is bald and doesn't look a thing like him. I'm sorry I can't provide a photo, but it is really, really bad.

Yeah, he plays in a small market in Buffalo, but back to back to back 1000 seasons (with Ryan Fitzpatrick) gets you at least a real scan in Madden, right?

Tiburon's content pipeline isn't as simple as "grab a player photo and put it onto a texture so it can be used in-game", nor should it be expected that that should be the case. For one, any player with a unique face texture needs a unique face 3D mesh; putting the texture on a generic face will just look weird, distort the likeness, and ruin the intended effect. Second, putting a texture onto a face to be used in-game isn't as simple as slapping it in; texture UV coordinates must be mapped to individual vertices of the unique face mesh to ensure the player's digital representation is correct in-game (to ensure the player face texture's eyes match up with the mesh's eyes, for example). Further, an NFL.com portrait is insufficient for producing an accurate asset for use on a 3D model; areas such as the cheeks and ears cannot be properly textured because of the nature of an NFL.com profile portrait. This is the reason Tiburon has their fancy face scanning contraption they love to show off, so they can acquire proper assets to use - a 3D map of the player's head, and a 360 photograph to map onto the captured geometry.

3D geometry manipulation isn't something that an intern should be reasonably expected to do for a AAA video game release. There is a good reason why 3D graphic artists get paid significant sums of money to work for video game companies these days.

All that said, Tiburon's content pipeline with regard to player faces is clearly inferior to some of their industry competitors; I'm pretty sure that nearly every player in NBA 2K has his virtual likeness properly represented. Tiburon could stand to do better with regard to properly representing more players on the field with accurate likenesses.

Or they can just let us use Gameface to update player faces on our own...

GameFace doesn't appear to work for more than one in-game character at a time, likely due to a significant RAM requirement (notably, other players' GameFaces are never seen in online CCMs). It is a potential solution to expand the feature, but I don't know if it is actually feasible on this current generation of consoles.

I'm also not sure how this at all addresses the explanation of Tiburon's content pipeline, other than to artificially manufacture a reason to dislike the game based on a feature that does not exist in the game.
