Re: Screwball, Forkball
These are two pitches I never touch when I choose to add a pitch to a player. And if a pitcher has one in his arsenal I never use it. (I never have before at least)
For some reason I look at these two pitches a gimmicks, but maybe I'm wrong. Can someone tell me what they do and why they would be better than say: A curveball, slider, Sinker or Knuckleball? Thanks.Comment

Re: Screwball, Forkball
A screwball breaks in the opposite direction that a typical curveball breaks. The advantage to that is pretty self evident. These are two pitches I never touch when I choose to add a pitch to a player. And if a pitcher has one in his arsenal I never use it. (I never have before at least)

Re: Screwball, Forkball
Daniel Ray Herrera throws a screw ball. Though, I don't think he's currently signed with anyone, is he?Comment

Re: Screwball, Forkball
A screwball is the opposite of the curveball. It should be thrown about the same speed, but breaks in the opposite direction. This is the same relationship as a 2-seam fastball and slider (two pitches thrown with roughly the same velocity, but breaks in an opposite direction). These are two pitches I never touch when I choose to add a pitch to a player. And if a pitcher has one in his arsenal I never use it. (I never have before at least)

A forkball is to the splitter in the way a changeup is to a fastball. The evolution of the splitter (originally called the Split Finger Fastball) was that it started out as a hard forkballComment

Re: Screwball, Forkball
I think he was released by the Mets before the season started. Herrera's screwball:

I've seen few pitchers in MLB who threw forkball, but Hideo Nomo lived on it:

Another pitch that has gone out of fashion:

Re: Screwball, Forkball
Sorry to hijack your thread.
I just played my 1st game against a pitcher that uses a knuckle ball (r.a. dickey) i had 1 hit that was a HR off a change up. I either struck out or popped it up and never got one hit with decent contact from his KB.
He threw around 70 pitches in 9 innings with 9 balls and most of those were from his change up, the ball was moving all over the place when i thought it was in the zone it moved out, when i thought it was out the zone it moved in.
One ball started below the zone and moved up into the zone, i don't know how the ball can gain height at the last minute but it did on many occasions. i don't mean a ball gaining height on trajectory.
What i am getting at is the KB in this game even remotely realistic. I will be simming when ever i come up against a pitcher with a KB.Comment

Yeah knuckers move too much in the game... playing a game in NY, sometimes it disappears in mid pitch and reappears in another game being played in LA.Sorry to hijack your thread.

... but perhaps that's a design decision to exaggerate the movement so that making contact becomes tougher for HUM players.Comment
