The mysterious "square button" Power swing?
I humbly admit that I never use this button. A part of me actually feels like it has a placebo effect if I've ever gotten lucky while using this swing. How many of you actually use this button in situations and find that you achieve a good rate of success.

Re: The mysterious "square button" Power swing?
I rarely rarely use it as well but I also have a good success rate with it.
I don't like using other than when I'm ahead in the count with 1 strike or less and in a situation when I absolutely NEED a home run. I love the risk reward with the button though.Comment

Re: The mysterious "square button" Power swing?
I'll use it in fastball counts with my big hitters, it's not always a home run but if its right in the middle of my pci and good contact it's definately a longball...RED SOX NATION!!!!Comment

Re: The mysterious "square button" Power swing?
I use it when the situation is right (3-0, 2-0 counts or when Im looking to really crush the ball when I'm seeing the ball well)
I actually have pretty good success with it too, sometimes I just chop the ball into the dirt but you have to pick and choose with it...
I find if you're not making good contact or if a pitcher is just dominating you, don't use a power swing because you will just look silly lol

I've found it seems to have a more profound effect when you are playing with a lower power slider. Just feels like you actually "need" it more with that type of slider set.

Re: The mysterious "square button" Power swing?
When I first started playing the game I would select a pitch and zone, wait for it to arrive, and smash it with a power swing. With the old animation for home runs it felt pretty awesome.
A few years ago I decided to hone my skills and play more sim and I decided to pretty much abandon it. Getting the bat through the zone with the right timing and waiting for the right pitch to push or pull is where all the fun is for me now. Anytime I use the power swing anymore it just messes me up.Comment

Re: The mysterious "square button" Power swing?
I very rarely use the power swing. Like maybe 1 or 2 times every 100 AB's.. probably even less than that.
It has always scared me to use it. If I see a juicy pitch, sure I could power swing and probably crush it, but what if I just beat it into the ground or pop it up because I used the power swing?
It's just much safer to use the X button and you can still crush a lot of balls with it, so I just stick to X.Denver Broncos

Re: The mysterious "square button" Power swing?
Take BP in RTTS in pregame and you'll notice it does make a difference. I estimate it makes the ball travel about 10% further (a 320 foot fly ball will become about a 352 foot fly / home run). I've just been promoted to AAA and my player's power rating is in the 40s and I can hit a ball over the batter's eye in CF when using the square button. In Iron Horse Stadium(?), I can hit the monster trucks in right center. However, I also hit more weak grounders (instead of soft line drives) when I'm off a little on the swing.Comment

Re: The mysterious "square button" Power swing?
True, but I've only been able to manage this twice and I use contact swing every time I have 2 strikes, so this has been thousands of ABs. It's a rare occurrence, at least for me.
As for power swing, I don't even bother. The couple times it's actually worked for me are far, far outweighed by scores of popups and choppers that I could have hit harder by using contact swing, so I just don't use it anymore.Comment

Re: The mysterious "square button" Power swing?
I use power button unless 2 strikes. I feel like i hit alot better with power button. I do swing through more pitches but when i make contact i feel i hit for alot more power then just using normal swingComment
