    Madden 13: Worth The Buy?

So I am looking at buying Madden 13. I originally held off because I am a big franchise guy and was worried about the Connected Careers ability to edit player equipment. I Have a few questions for those on these boards who obviously own the game. Thanks in advance!

    1. Can you edit equipment and jersey numbers in CC? I heard that it was taken out to stop the editing of players for roster purposes or something. However I have also heard that it might have been fixed and we can edit numbers and equipment via patch post release? I dont have the game so im not sure if that is true. And if the ability to edit those aspects is in I would be very happy.

    2. How does the real time physics engine actually work? I heard that this madden was the most realistic feeling football game ever. Is that true? Do bigger backs push forward and size actually matter? Again havent played it and I have heard good things.

    3. Since Franchise Mode was taken out and switched to Connected Careers, how much of a change does that have?

Thank you to everyone who sheds some insights!

    "Huh?"
"If you don't write checks how you pay these guys?"
    "Straight cash homie."

    1. yes you can.

    2. I've personally used a bigger back and he plowed through the D-Line with ease.

    3. Since Franchise Mode was taken out and switched to Connected Careers, how much of a change does that have?
    3. Its Just superstar and franchise in one mode, you get to choose what you want to be.

Well, you came into a Madden 13 addicts forum, there is no way to get a bad review for it here. Of course it's worth it

Re: Madden 13: Worth The Buy?

Stay away. My advice is stay away.

If you really liked M12......I think you will despise M13 after playing it for a month or 2.

        I really tried.

It is a bug laden nightmare. And CCM stinks.

If your an offline franchise guy....just stay away.

Other than a nice revamped play by play/color team the game went 10 steps backwards as far as:

        Franchise Mode
Camera angles, cut scenes and replays. In fact the post play replays were an abomination.
Infinty Engine was a beta. Sloppy and quite frankly an embarrassing mess and I still to this day can't believe it went retail with all the flopping post play, contorted body parts and awful collision detection. Especially in the running game. The running game was destroyed and why your seeing such a back of the box focus for M25.

I would rent it first....and in fact I would rent M25 as well. No way I give one more nickel to the Madden franchise again until I am totally blown away with:

Gameplay - M12 is far better
Presentation. - Other than the lousy play by play M12 is far better
Deep and immersive franchise mode - I don't even need to tell you M12 is far better
A true working penalty system - legacy issue this gen
A working replay system - legacy issue this gen
CPU AI - M12 was the best Madden AI ever and they destroyed it on M13.

Sliders do not work properly on M13, auto subs are whacked, formation subs do not stick week to week. No offline fantasy draft.

The only things I liked on M13 was the improved pass trajectories, the scouting system and the actual draft.

Nothing else is redeeming about the game. It is unplayable for me and is a drink coaster.

I believe you should wait to see what happens with Madden on the next generation consoles. Madden might provide a much better experience on the Playstation 4 and the next Xbox.

I thoroughly enjoyed Madden NFL 13 and CCM was a huge reason as to why I did.

That said, the best impressions are those formed on your own. Buy it used from GameStop, and if you don't like it just return it within seven days for a refund.

                      Yep.... I guess I don't love football. I love M12...but not 13...so I don't love football.

Listen these types of threads always get different types of responses. The OP is asking...so we are giving our impressions. No one is right or wrong. It is all personal preference.

But to make a blanket statement that you can't love football if you dislike Madden 13.....come on man.

I am about the most positive poster around....but I also call a spade a spade. I play video games to have tons of fun. I look past many warts as I am so aware it is a video game. I am an Atari 2600 generation video gamer so that should tell you how much I appreciate the flat out amazing games we have today.

But in my own opinion as a huge NFL football fan (heck NCAA too...but baseball is my first love) and Maddenite since 1991....M13 was a miss.

Re: Madden 13: Worth The Buy?

I personally thought Madden 13 was the best Madden on the current gen. I never got into Madden 12 and only kept it in the disc tray because of MUT. I felt like the presentation visually with cameras and replays in Madden 12 was quite a bit better than 13's, but other than that I enjoyed 13 more than 12 in every way.

I know a lot of people didn't like the IE because of it's goofiness, but I still enjoy playing the game because of it's unpredictability. I think that's the main thing that people have to understand, yes it's quirky and at times downright awful, but it brings a new element to the game that previous Madden's never had because it seems like you always see something new every game. Madden 06-12 I always felt so bored because the game play was so predictable.

You won't see this in Madden 12
                        <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/FUiD-UEnwPQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I'm thinking that Madden 25 will easily be the best Madden this gen, but if you want to wait until next gen that is perfectly fine. I think next gen Madden will be by FAR the best football gaming we have ever seen. I think people are going to be shocked if the devs are able to pull off what they are wanting to. I've heard Simfballcritic say something very similar to that and he's talked to the devs in person about their vision for next gen.

In all honesty while I am still active in an Online CCM. I find Madden 13 rather boring. If you plan to play off-line you may be able to still milk some enjoyment out of the game with a good set of sliders, but playing against people the games many flaws are easy to spot.

I won't list them all here, as you may not notice or care, but anyone who really loves and understands the game of football at a deep level and hope to recreate some of that with madden will again be disappointed IMO.

Thank you to everyone for your responses. There is a local video game store in town and im sure I can get it at a cheap price (I also plan to trade in NCAA13). With that said im looking for something to hold me over until NCAA14 and hopefully get me back on the Madden bus and on the hype train for M25.

I still mess with NCAA13 even tho that game is not very good and as long as Madden is better than that, im in. I played M12 and liked it. I understand that these are video games and unfortunately we havent reached the era of true representation of what we see Saturdays and Sundays in a video game. But the games are still fun enough to play for a couple months IMO.

Again thank you to everyone who shared their opinions and im looking forward to seeing the good and the bad of M13.
