    NHL14 - Next-Gen

Well it's official that NHL franchise won't instantly be launched on next-gen. The games that will be upon their release dates unique to each franchise, Fifa, Madden, UFC and NBA. This is according to EA Sports themselves at the XBOX ONE Reveal.

It also hurts that the XBOX ONE will NOT be backwards compatible.

So us die hard NHL fans will have to hold onto the 360 for a while before you'd even see NHL 14 get ported over (Which obviously wouldn't have any direct level of enhancement for the next-gen. Just the same game graphically and engine wise as XBOX360 version)

Did you just read what I put? It more than likely will be released at SOME point, probably more likely Q1-2 of 2014 but simply as just the same game as it is on 360. It's how many of the games upon the 360's release were. Not immediately released but just ported over eventually.

i guess this would look like 2K6 wherein they released it for 360 with not much of a difference. i dont know how much effort will EA put in NHL 14 knowing that there'll be a great difference between old consoles and the next gen.

Doesn't it just say, that it won't be a launch title, but they are willing to put it out the next year?
Or am I just terribly wrong?

Well yea, that is fairly obvious that NHL'15 will be the first next-gen NHL game.

Wow, I had not heard that. For me, that's huge. That's the reason I went with 360 over the PS3. Now, especially since I own a Vita already, I will probably switch over to the PS4. MS made a HUGE error by not incorporating backwards compatibility.

Both consoles next-gen will not allow backwards compatibility. It has nothing to do with the companies it's just to do with the processing power of the units. It's physically incapable of playing old data. Both PS4/XBOX ONE will be in the same boat.

Games will HAVE to be installed prior to playing as well as you not being able to borrow a friend's game without purchasing a 'license' to play it. Only way you can play a friend's game on your system is if he logs into it with his own account and plays it with you.

Why exactly? You'll be able to play just as many 360 games on the XboxOne as you are on the PS4.

Now don't get me wrong, I would have liked backwards compatibility too, but switching too PS4 won't give you that. Besides, I still got my old Xbox with a lot of games, thing is, I never play it. Haven't touched it once since I bought the 360. I doubt that will be any different this generation.

I was disappointed that NHL wasn't one of the "next gen" games that are releasing with the XBOX ONE, but I'm waiting for awhile anyway to get it.

Just keep your current Xbox and you don't have to worry about backwards compatibility.

Most games released right off the bat sports wise are horrible anyway.

I understand both consoles won't have backwards compatibility. I disagree whether it was possible - I doubt there was the desire. The 360 had different programming than the Xbox; you needed a CD with programming to have the 360 play the older games. It just mattered to me (and would again) by letting me still play my old console games while I built up a library with the new console. Especially since there will be no NHL game launching with the new system. I probably would have gone with the PS3, since (for me) it has better exclusives - the backwards compatibility was the main reason I went with the 360 last generation.

Yeah, I hate this new licensing thing. Good for the publishers, bad for the consumer.

Understood. Just for me, I had an Xbox, so that made 360 the best option at the time (though I would have preferred a PS3). This time, there will be no reason for me to go Xbox.

I only played my Xbox games in the first year or so that I had my 360, while I built up a library of new games. It made a big difference early on.

Agreed! I am likely to sit back a bit and see what comes out for each system. (And if there is a RROD issue withn one of them).
