ICE DEFENSE ON PICK & ROLL
Does anybody know what the Def settings are for this defense in NBA 2K13?

Re: ICE DEFENSE ON PICK & ROLL
You have to do it manually. You have to keep one of your bigs in a constant help position. The bulls always keep a 4 or 5 in between the ball and the rim. In the video you will constantly see Noah running to the ball side of the floor standing behind the perimeter defender.
Psn: Alabamarob
Xbox: Alabama Rob
Youtube: 2k Hawks
Settings I play on.
Minutes: 12

Re: ICE DEFENSE ON PICK & ROLL
While the Bulls do have such a system, as stated on the video, they know when to do it, as it is dependant on who is on the court and who they want taking those long 2. So is on a matchup vs matchup basses.
2k i.e.
- Boozer vs Blatche => sag off (on ball & off ball) / under (defending pick)
- Noah vs Lopez => sag off (on ball & off ball) / under (defending pick)
- Butler/Deng vs Wallace => sag off (on ball & off ball) / under (defending pick)
- Rose/Rob/Kirk vs DWill => tight (on ball & off ball) / over (defending pick)
- Rip/Belli vs JoeJ => tight (on ball & off ball) / over (defending pick)
Defend man to man, on ball, deny the middle and lean players to where the help D is, so the rotation doesnt have to overcome a good distance
If you want you can also alter the following coach sliders ...
- put help D around 70-80 (could be higher but I tend not to, to avoid overcommitment)
- put preassure around 80-90 (can also be higher, CHI is one of the best defending the 3)
Thus I only do it if the first set of steps dont provide me with the results.
A key variable that affects the performance of this is the players DAw, a team of bad defenders (and/or slow ones) can only do so much. As IRL, in 2k, CHI is great (specially if is of a worthy custom roster).Last edited by ffaacc03; 05-25-2013, 08:49 AM.Comment

What about the hedge setting?

Re: ICE DEFENSE ON PICK & ROLL
ICE is the opposite of hedging. By hedging, the defense is forced to send a third defender over to cover the roll to the basket by the screener, since the screeners man is so high to slow down the ball handler coming off the pick. By playing ICE (forcing the ballhandler away from the screen, having the screeners man sink down into the lane to contain the drive and/or roll), the screeners man is able to take away both the drive and the roll, making it much more difficult to score.
tl;dr: Set hedge settings to 'No Hedge'Comment

Re: ICE DEFENSE ON PICK & ROLL
Yup, i've started doing this like about a week ago after watching Coach Nick's videos. Set your pick defense to no hedge and manually shade your opponent away from the screen. So i set up my defender right next to the screener instead of right in front of the ball handler. This makes getting around picks much much easier.Lineup:

SG) '95-'96 Michael Jordan
SF) Sapphire Scottie Pippen
PF) '95-'96 Dennis Rodman
C) Hakeem OlajuwonComment

Re: ICE DEFENSE ON PICK & ROLL
Nick is great. He and I are going to be doing some stuff together this summer, so stay tuned for that.
My biggest wish for 2K14 is the implementation of more modern NBA defenses.
As is, 2K13 players are pretty restricted to traditional man-to-man and zone defenses.
There's a little room for creativity through the individual settings and manually controlling players, but there's not as much schematic freedom as there should be.
2K doesn't do a good job replicating modern NBA team defense yet.Comment

Re: ICE DEFENSE ON PICK & ROLL
But i dont understand. Look at all the defenses in College Hoops. why cant those be brought into 2k14? Im talking college hoops 2k8. 2......K.....8 for goodness sake! that game was made in 2007Comment

Re: ICE DEFENSE ON PICK & ROLL
A lot of those defenses aren't ran in the league.
Modern defenses include Boston's man/zone hybrid. I'm hoping ICE and other defensive schemes are added. ICE may never be beaten though if passing isn't fixed. Skip pass is the best way to beat it.#WashedGamerComment

Re: ICE DEFENSE ON PICK & ROLL
Because those aren't the defenses we're talking about.
When you see an NBA team running a 1-3-1 or box-and-one, you let me know.Comment

Re: ICE DEFENSE ON PICK & ROLL
Bball fans should remember KG at the top of the TWolves 1-2-2/3-2 Zone. In College Hoops you can change which plays play where in the zone. All so many nba teams run a 1-2-1-1 trap or press. Also those classic bulls teams ran it 40% of the game in the playoffs.Comment

Re: ICE DEFENSE ON PICK & ROLL
NBA teams very occasionally run unconventional defenses, sure.
Would you really the developers rather spend their time implementing those defenses as opposed to the modern schemes that the best teams in the league run 99% of the time now?Comment
