Kickstarter for New College Football Game

I just came across this Kickstarter project today and was surprised that I hadn't seen a thread on here about it yet since the funding started 10 days ago.

The game is being developed by some former 5-star developers working for a new company Longshot Games.
Longshot Games is a game development studio consisting of veterans from nearly every major football franchise, including EA’s Madden, NCAA, NFL Street, NFL Head Coach, and 2K's NFL series. The studio is lead by Josh Brown, a former developer on NFL Head Coach, NFL Street and contributor on Madden and NCAA. With nearly 50 years of combined game development experience we're poised to take the next leap in the sports gaming genre.
They are planning to release on PS3 and 360 in August 2014. So its still a long way to go but it seems they have some interesting ideas as far as the game engine and logic goes. There's also a video so make sure to check it out.

Something tells me that they aren't going to raise $990,000 dollars in two weeks. It could just be a hunch.

Haha, yeah the goal was a bit lofty for only a 3 week funding period. Still the plan and the initial tech they show looks solid. Maybe they're just trying to gage interest before getting deep into development.

I just wonder if they'll still release it if they don't reach the goal.

I will likely support this but do you know why most sports game Kickstarters fail? They dont include the PC as a platform. Yes the PC market is not as prevalent but there has not been a PC football title of any quality for years(thanks EA) and PC gamers are starving for one. I may back at $30....if PC was a platform I would be in for $100 minimum.

Nice to see this kind of initiative even though ... yeah ... the goal cannot be reached. Not for an xbox live arcade game.

I think the bigger issue is that sports kickstarters never show any gameplay footage. Some work-in-progress gameplay would go a long way towards convincing people that the project is worth backing.

All these guys showed was a QB dropback animation and a receiver getting his hands ready to catch a pass in an isolated environment.

It's too bad there hasn't been more support so far. I hope they redo the Kickstarter with a lower pledge goal in mind. I hope Longshot Games releases their college football game eventually.

We need a good, simulation based football game on the market.

diggin the animations, what little they showed. I like the idea of it, but like someone said - no way $1 mil is going to be reached.

Put these guys on Shark Tank!!

(they'd probably get ripped to shreds though lol)

I am the 46th backer at a modest amount of $10.

Actually, at least 2 of them did show gameplay footage (Hard Lick Sports Football, and The Gridiron GamePak). But the issue of football gamers lack of participation goes way, way beyond there being gameplay footage or not anyway.

The real issue is that football gamers are an apathetic bunch. I usually can understand apathy, except when it's to a person's own plight, that's when it's just plain stupid and quite frankly despicable.

Looking at the extensive backgrounds and experience of all the Kickstarter football developers, it's pretty obvious that football gamers wouldn't back a project headed by Jesus Christ himself if such a situation arose. So basically, this is why nothing will ever come of anything. If you don't put money on anything, nothing will ever happen. It's a simple concept to grasp, but football gamers don't get it, but will still go ape over the fact that no new football games are coming. Talk about insanity.

Okay, so let's take a tally of all the projects football gamers didn't back enough or at all since 2004:

                            1. Maximum Football (PC)
                            2. All Pro Football (360/PS3)
                            3. BCFX (360)
                            4. The Gridiron GamePak (PC)
                            5. Backbreaker (360/PS3/iOS)
                            6. Tecmo Bowl Throwback (360/PS3)
                            7. Hard Lick Sports Football (iOS)
                            8. Blitz The League (360)
                            9. Blitz The League II (XBOX 360/PS3)
                            10. QuickHit Football (PC)
                            11. College Football Championship (360/PS3)

11 projects! 11! After those 11 projects, the rest were just silly clone games/remakes/mods and other miscellaneous junk not worth mentioning otherwise it would be even higher than that.

Granted, #11 was the least developed of them all. And sure, 1Million dollars is a lot to ask although it is actually reasonable taking into account the cost of doing what they were trying to pull off (not that football gamers would understand that). But the point that other gaming communities understand that this one doesn't is that you have to support things at the beginning stages and help it grow when you're dealing with indies. These aren't billion dollar corporations making these projects, these are single solitary guys and small teams doing these things on a shoestring budget mostly in their spare time since they have other jobs.

The RPG community gets it, the adventure game community gets it, the FPS community gets it and they all back new projects hand over fist, and they don't even need to do that since they get new games regularly from the majors anyway. But THIS group of gamers? Dumb as a doornail and dismissive of any and everything that isn't a fully done project that looks as good or better than Madden. Of course, Madden looks great but plays like crap, so how has that approach been working for football gamers?

This group wants a perfect situation on a silver platter with no action on their part, and it's never going to happen. Guys, it's NEVER going to happen. Back something, or get nothing. What part of that are football gamers not understanding? Apparently, all of it.

I'll also point out that the sports gaming media is culpable to a large degree, since they've actually spotlighted projects of no worth to fixing our problem while ignoring ones that would actually make a big difference. Operation Sports itself is very much guilty of this, including one such episode where it promoted the Dirty Bird Football project with an article, when in fact that project turned out to be an intentional scam that eventually got shut down by Kickstarter. One has to question the level of supposed professional knowledge the writers/editors of this site have when they weren't able to immediately notice that practically every screenshot on the Dirty Bird Project was stolen from Turbosquid. I recognized it on first glance and knew and it was a fake.

So here we go; in less than 12 days, yet ANOTHER football project will die, and self-absorbed, self-entitled football gamers will point fingers, attack and blame the lowly indie devs, and go right back to lamenting over there being no football games beside Madden. This cycle will never end, and at this point I have reasonable cause to assume that football gamers actually enjoy this cycle. How else can you explain their perpetual unwillingness to help themselves out of it?
