Absolutely doable. Just look at FIFA and their recent addition of coaching an international team as well as a club team.

I have long wished for the NHL series to become more than just the NHL. To become Hockey. To let us start our BAGM careers in a european league or minor N.A league. Or to let us start our BAP careers in a european league. Or as you suggested, involve the national teams more with adding the WC and Olympics.
