I'm thoroughly excited about this one from what I've seen thus far, I'm strictly an offline dynasty player and I always like starting as an OC or DC at a small school and work my way up to HC at a major program. The skills seem like they could add some realism to that style of play if implemented correctly. It would also be great if the CPU's use of the skills gave computer coaches a better shot of hanging around longer in the coaching carousel. Through the many dynasties I've played through it seems like a handful of coaches from the lower teams in the power conferences (Jerry Kill, for example) lose a job and never recover. Would be exciting to see a HC who lost a job at a major school redeem himself at a lower level and return to the coaching elite as the dynasty plays out.Comment

I hope this makes it much harder for the human and cpu to build non-bcs schools to championship material....always bugs me when I have about 4 or 5 non bcs schools in the top 15, one or two is great, but when they take up that many spots, it kills realismI'm thoroughly excited about this one from what I've seen thus far, I'm strictly an offline dynasty player and I always like starting as an OC or DC at a small school and work my way up to HC at a major program. I agree with that, It's fun to have a few winning seasons with a team like Florida Atlantic or Arkansas State and use it as a stepping stone to a better gig, but to have teams from the Sun Belt or MAC consistently high in the polls kills it a little, especially if it is early on in the dynasty. Over time it's great to see a team rise like Boise state did, but it's a rare occurrence in real life and should be in the game as well.Comment

Yep, a team like Northern Ill or Utah and TCU (when they were non bcs) would have a really good season or two with 10 + wins and make BCS or come close, but then would dip for a couple of years and win 7-8 games when the upperclassmen left and had to build back up. Even Boise is going through that now.I agree with that, It's fun to have a few winning seasons with a team like Florida Atlantic or Arkansas State and use it as a stepping stone to a better gig, but to have teams from the Sun Belt or MAC consistently high in the polls kills it a little, especially if it is early on in the dynasty. I'm not a big fan of the arcade "boosts" to on-field performance but I like the recruiting-based upgrades for the most part. The concept of leveling up and progression has the potential to really be great. In a sense, it adds an RPG element to coaching and running a dynasty. I love dynasty mode in college football, I love RTTS in MLB The Show, and I love RPG games -- I'm pretty excited to give this a try.Comment

As long as it isn't over powered I liked the small boosts like awareness and coach able skills...some coaches are better big game coaches...look at Saban vs Stoops.I'm not a big fan of the arcade "boosts" to on-field performance but I like the recruiting-based upgrades for the most part. I like the idea of boosts during time outs, but that is about itComment

What worries me is that there will be no cap for the amount of skills your coach can have. What happens in year, say, 15 of you r dynasty when you have obtained all of the skills? The same for all other coaches. The skills will mean nothing if one way or another every coach will have all of the skills just because of all the time you put into your dynasty.Playbook Gamer - Football Gaming & StrategyComment

Re: NCAA Football 14 - A Deeper Look at Coach Skills
To me it depends on how slow the slow and/or slowest settings work. If I can put it on slowest and have it take 20+ years of even great success to reach the last level, I am ok with this. That's why I'm very encouraged that there will be 5 settings (I assume) for progression instead of 3 (which is what I originally thought it would be). What worries me is that there will be no cap for the amount of skills your coach can have. I also really like that you can disable skill respeccing. This means, when paired with the slow progression settings, you will have to decide which path you want to take as a HC (recruiting, game manager, balanced) for much of your career. I am not a huge fan of being able to switch back and forth on a whim year after year, so this is how I would prefer to play.Comment

I did not know about the progression level setting in terms of how slow or fast you gain levels. Where did you read that? I also did not read where you can disable reallocating your skills every year which I like if true. Probably my favorite thing is being able to reallocate your coordinator's skills since you can't hire your own. I can finally tailor my coordinator's skills to my philosophy. All of these dynasty changes are giving me hope.To me it depends on how slow the slow and/or slowest settings work.
