Re: Madden NFL 25 Connected Franchise Q&A with Josh Looman

It's probably a little late for this, but I just saw this blog post for NCAA:

Basically, there are coaching talent trees with traits for game management and recruiting. Coordinators are in the game and also have talent trees to spend XP on. This is a million billion trillion times better (at least!) than the current system for coaches in Madden.

These traits should have a much more varied and interesting effect on gameplay and team management, and they add depth to decisions like when to call a timeout or whether to attempt a kick. They also force the user to make interesting choices about which traits are more important and what strategy will produce more wins: you can try to coach players up or you can recruit better talent.

If you read the blog in detail, there is SO much in there that should make coaches matter and actually feel like coaches instead of the nothing that they are in Madden. ***Anyone who is in touch with Madden devs, please ask if/when a system like this is coming to Madden.*** I don't play NCAA and I have no idea if this system is something that was tried before this year. I don't know if it has sucked or will suck. But I strongly doubt it would be any less than a significant upgrade over what we have in Madden. I really wish we got something like this instead of the tycoon mini-game stuff. Forgive me if this is old news - I happened to check on NCAA and my head exploded when I saw what's happening over there.

They either have devs who worked on HC09 or got the idea from HC09. Looman was the head guy on that game I believe, he knows all about the tree.

Not a chance, people are drastically underestimating how good madden 25 is going to be.

I might enjoy the game on the field more than I did with M13, but that's a pretty low bar for me. Owner mode isn't something I really missed - I've wanted a deeper experience from franchise for a long time, not a tycoon game. NCAA seems to be trying harder to be that game, but Madden isn't.

Honestly, if anyone had asked me in 2003 what franchise mode would look like by now, I would have confidently described something far richer than what M25 promises. If posters I trust here buy the game and have something good to say about AI improvements for franchise mode, I'll probably cave in. Right now the news isn't encouraging.

people have been known to say that every year. you might be right but i'll need to see it with my own eyes first the announcements so far have not impressed me. I agree right now NCAA is looking like the game to get

The game on the field is what matters, gameplay must be first priority from now on.

Until they confirm that the AI issues have been fixed for Madden 25 I am not going to be excited for it. I hope they release some videos of someone playing against the CPU at E3 so we can see if there is an improvement.

I must be reading something different on the NCAA forums.

Just last week there were people criticizing loudly the lack of improvements from 13 to 14.

Eh, maybe the wind blows differently on a daily basis over there.

if i have a imported team from team builder in NCAA and the players that make it into madden will the college say N/A or will it have the actual college name after importing draft classes?

Once a player is put into the draft, they are removed from the draft pool. Obviously, it would need to be tuned so you only get X amount of stars per draft. As for the story players, you can attach one story to 10 different players and once it is used for a player, it can't be used again in future drafts.

Or come up with a good random player generator so what you get is random from every playthrough, every class, etc.

Then no guide is possible because who knows what you'll exactly get. Yet the players would still make "football sense".

Like how OOTP does draft classes - you don't know what you'll get, but most players make "baseball sense" and are worth scouting out. Only guide you could make is general player evaluation/picking guys for X scheme or Y role.

Please ask him if the AI CPU is much better at playcalling.

                                2 issues last year.

                                1. The CPU would run alot on first down. Hardly saw any passing from passing teams like the Saints, Packers, etc....

                                2. Late game playcalling from the CPU was to put it mildy, atrocious. 2:00 minutes left in the half, CPU trailing by less than 10 points and running out the clock.

                                Thanks.
                                Mr. Bill;

Did you receive any feedback from Michael Young or Josh Looman on this? You mentioned you would follow up with him about this subject.

                                Thanks.
