Star players regressing at 24 yrs old?

Today I was playing my franchise as the Cardinals and star outfielder Oscar Taveras' individual stats regressed 6 POINTS!!! It is 2017 and he is only 24 YEARS OLD!!!! He had an overall of 99 and went to a 97 and I have never edited his stats.

I've had similar problem with another guy on my team, I had a 28 year old SP go from being an 89 to a 83 in a single season, not cause of manager, but cause he just regressed.

Once a player reaches his peak overall, he'll stay there for a few years and eventually begin to decline, so yes, what your experiencing is not unusual or unexpected.

        Same thing happens with Trout.

So how do you combat it so it's realistic, stop training for young prospects?

Since when are players' peaks at 24? And I checked Trout in the same franchise at age 27 and he is still 99 and is actually still progressing in some areas. I don't want to seem like a jerk but this kind of stuff keeps piling up with this game.

Its called being a flash in the pan and it happens IRL all the time, as has been mentioned in numerous other threads on the issue. Regression is WAD

Mike Trout frequently regresses in his first season.

It's not perfect, but I'd rather see too much regression than too little.

I didn't say peak age was 24, I said peak overall in the game ie. 99 rating for guys with A+/A10 potential can only be attained for a short period of time.

One of two things happened here

                  1) He regressed due to the issue mentioned earlier

                  2) His potential changed to a lower grade, only two ways to tell if thats the case. Check if you got an email regarding his potential or adding all A potential players to the same team and sorting by potential to see where it falls.

No good way, I dropped Trout to a 94 just so he would normally progress & stay elite for an extra 2-3 seasons instead of falling off a cliff at 30.

Ask Hanley Ramirez...he peaked in his age 23 and age 24 seasons and has regressed ever since. It DOES happen. Take a look at the stats for the following players:

                      Nomar Garciaparra
                      Don Mattingly
                      Chet Lemon
                      Kal Daniels
                      Ruben Sierra
                      Cesar Cedeno
                      Matt Nokes
                      Fernando Tatis

These guys all peaked in their early twenties (age 23 - 25 seasons). Some leveled off and had long careers while others fell off the map. Yes, it is less likely that a player takes this kind of aging curve, but it definitely happens.

The fact that it is happening in The Show is wonderful....sorry for you that it happens to impact your guy. But it definitely is not a bug....it's reality.

thats true! its nice that it happens. sometimes its going a bit quick though for guys peaking in young age. i feel for them the decline should be slower and there should also be a possibility for those guys to have a bounce back season or even a second peak. i know this is probably asking too much at this point, just saying it would be great.

Tyler Matzek somehow climbed to an 87 OVR in 2016 and was my #2 on my staff that won the World Series, then in 2017 at the start of the season he had regressed to a 77. Still had A potential.
