What Was So Great About NCAA 11?

So, waiting for NCAA 14 to drop in about a week, I decided to pick up a copy of NCAA 11 for about 4 bucks after reading about all the rave reviews on this forum. Hell, even the review gave it a 9.

So what i'm asking is, what's so great about this game? It's tremendously flawed in many areas, even with a good slider set. The PA pass is useless, because as soon as you fake the handoff to the RB, a defender is in your face, every single time. Looking at replays I notice that whenever there is a PA pass, defenders EASILY just use a swim move to get around the guard, usually one of the DTs.

Now, let's talk about the option. Option teams are absolutely USELESS in this game. As soon as the ball is hiked, you don't even have time to read the defense because no matter what you do, you're getting tackled for a loss. Your blockers are nowhere to be found, and if you decide to pitch it, it's usually a fumble or an INT.

And don't even get me started on the special teams return blocking.. Ugh

I'm not sure why people on OS rave about this game so much, it's terrible.

The only thing I loved about it was the the range of effectiveness of tweaking player ratings was much wider than it is now, which is very confusing. For some reason things changed for the worse in 12 and 13. You would be surprised how tweaking the ratings helped with a lot of the issues you have listed, although it didn't fix everything. I also remember the game colors looking 'washed out' in 12 and 13 compared to 11.

Not being able to tweak ratings in dynasty ultimately forced me trade the game in before Christmas.

Go back and play NCAA 10 and you will understand. It took a monstrous leap forward. Plus there were hardly any glitches.

Re: What Was So Great About NCAA 11?

NCAA Football 11 was by far the best title in this series, in my opinion. One of my favorite games ever, just behind MLB The Show.

What was so great about it? Hard to answer, other than it played a fun game and looked fantastic. Not boring. Variety of game-playing experiences. Never felt cheated (meaning, when I lost I deserved to lose, when I won, I felt like I deserved to win).

You can nit-pick it. Of course every game has flaws. I will say this one had fewer than the rest and was by far the most fun to play.

Not sure yet if I'm going to get NCAA 14, will wait for reviews and feedback. I made the mistake of getting 12 and 13 and traded both in fairly quickly.
It's on me. I shook his hand too hard. It was a hard ... kind of a slap-shake.

Re: What Was So Great About NCAA 11?

I attribute it to the massive leap it took from NCAA 10 (which was short lived in my console...dreck).

OD was a huge upgrade. The player models and feel of the game was a Next Gen leap.

I feel thus far 13 was the best. But that will all change IMO with NCAA 14. Love the demo after playing it a ton. At first I was...ok same game with some tune ups.....but as I dug deeper and really played with all the teams available...I am convinced it will be one of the best NCAA titles ever in the series.

NCAA 11 is a great game.....for the time it came out. Around here people get really stuck in the past more often than not. Now some titles from the past are better IMO (NBA 2K11 for example). But everyone is different.

11 is flawed but it does play a fun game of football. Dynasty was really flawed and why I could not keep playing it. The improvements made (especially last year with scouting) have made the NCAA Dynasty mode one of the very best offline franchise experiences IMO. I rank it 3rd behind The Show and 2K11 (and I must throw in CH2K8 as that game is intensely deep).

It wasn't great. To date, it was the only decent NCAA on the current gen of consoles, which isn't saying a whole lot.

NCAA 11 was actually a huge step from the previous NCAA games on current gen...I mean a HUGE step forward

Re: What Was So Great About NCAA 11?

IMO, NCAA 11 had the best overall look (graphics) of any of the games this gen. The grass/field turf looked pretty darn good. The player models looked very good. Colors were bright. As a previous poster said, with updated rosters and adjusted ratings, the game played pretty darn good. The jerseys got dirty and even the field got worn out during games (middle of the field where most of the action is). You could actually play defense, and if you checked yourself and stayed away from "money" plays, you could play a "sim" style offense and get reasonable results. The general feel of your players, weight, seemed to exist. And the gang tackling and animations are solid. The overall feel of the game was much better than 10, and waaaaay better than 12 and 13 which IMO are NCAA Football abominations. EA should be embarrased to have put out those flawed products.

Now I agree with you, the option game is bad no doubt. I never really played with option teams on the game, but playing it recently with a few option teams (Oregon and G-Tech) and I immediately noticed how terrible it was. Blocking was bad, and every pitch you were praying to the football gods that it actually made it to the RB. Line play in general is not good.

I know there are other areas where the game falls short, but in comparison to 10, 12 and 13, NCAA 11 was a much better total package than any of those IMO. And because of that, a lot of members in this community say NCAA 11 was the best on this gen. NCAA 14 has a good shot of knocking it off, and I can't wait to buy it and play it myself to see if EA has finally put out a good product after being so disappointed with 12 and 13 to not even waste my money.

Re: What Was So Great About NCAA 11?

Considering it was the last NCAA game I bought, it wasn't really that great in my opinion. The new locomotion system was better than what they'd had in the past; however, since they had promised "authentic player movement," I was pretty disappointed in what we got.

But like other have said, NCAA 11 is great when compared to NCAA 10, but that has more to do with how bad NCAA 10 was and not how good NCAA 11 is.

It's average, and mostly playable if you really need a football fix. That's about as much praise as I can really give it.

It had Tebow on the cover that's why

But it was probably my most played Ncaa game on current gen but I don't really know why. Maybe it was the huge leap from 10.

14 looks to be another huge leap though and I just can't wait till Friday!

No offense, but honestly if you are struggling with the option, you just are very bad at it.

That was one of the broken features in NCAA 11. It was so easy to run the option. I had my rb run for 4,000 yards and the qb run for 2,000 in the same season.

Main reason is the leap it took from 10 to 11. It was really the 1st and so far only (for me) enjoyable NCAA game on this generation of systems.

I agree with everyone that 11 is better than 10. Not sure why people think it is better than 12 and 13.

One big improvement that came with 13 was the ability to disguise your defense. Play action passes work better in 13. So do option runs.

You hit the nail on the head here.

I started playing 11 last year with edited classic rosters from here at OS.

The difference between edited rosters and default rosters in 11 is like night and day for actual gameplay on the field.

The colors also looked great in 11 and the player models were even better.
