Offensive Line Manuevers

I play with South Carolina and I figured since Clowney is rated a 99 (rightfully so IMHO) I figured I'd almost be cheating if I used him too much as my human controlled player. But to be honest I'm not having a ton of success get through the line with him. I like simulation style play so I more pleased with this fact than displeased but I can't help but wonder if I'm just not understanding the controls well enough either.

In order to initiate a maneuver (swim, roll, slide under, etc) I'm guessing the timing is critical right? For now I'm trying to hit the right stick before I get engaged with the DL. Is this right?

Also - should I be using the sprint button as well or not until I get past the defender?

I guess in general - if anyone has any tips on OL play it would be helpful.
