Defensive basics?
I'm really good at offense in this game. I score on almost every drive on heisman difficulty. The problem is, I have absolutely no idea what to do on defense. I always use a defensive lineman, and the only presnap thing that I know what to do is guessing run left, right, mid, or pass. What can I do to get better?Tags: None -
Re: Defensive basics?
Just play man, ask head coach for play calls and get yourself to the point where you can execute any play without having to need go to or cheese plays. Also start playing as a MLB it will make the game more fun trust me, I love using linemen but its more fun using a LB and using a end in pass rush situations. I've been doing this for a couple years and my skill has increased dramatically."Victory without honor is a unseasoned dish; It might satisfy you but it won't taste good." -Vince Lombardi -
Re: Defensive basics?
I'm far from a defensive guru but a couple things I have learned is that you should ALWAYS run man (zone is broken) I always press the DBS and shade them to the inside (Helps take away slants). My go to defense is the 3-4 2 Man Under or Nickle 2 Man under. Your best bet might be to grab a couple controllers go into practice mode and lab it up a little bit and learn what stops what and what slows down what. Good Luck.Comment

Re: Defensive basics?
It's not listed under shade I believe when you hit Y (Xbox) you can move the right stick left or right to align the players. I normally align them to the strong side of the field. But it really depends on the set the offense comes out in.Comment

Re: Defensive basics?
I feel like the defense is absolutely non existent. I just got done playing a online game and both of us had uncontested drives the whole game. Neither of us had a turnover.. In fact, neither of us had a pass deflection. All WR's were open when we needed them open. Both of us could do whatever we wanted on offense. It was just a back and forth offensive game. It pretty much turned into a "who can make the first dumb mistake?"
I doubt that this is something that would be patched or anything but a patch for this game can't come soon enough.Comment

Re: Defensive basics?
Man align and shade receiver are different. As far as I know there is no shading in NCAA.Comment

Re: Defensive basics?
I totally agree. In the past, NCAA games were criticized for "Robo QB", which was the perception that unless you sacked the QB, he would get a rid of the ball and complete unrealistically high % of passes to open receivers that they would always seem to locate, even under pressure.I feel like the defense is absolutely non existent. I don't think the problem is that the QB's are perfect - the QB's do miss passes and make mistakes. (There's also some bizarre glitches where the QB drops back and throws it away before he could possibly have even read the defense). I think the Zone A.I. is just so bad that there are clear exploits for the passing A.I. to take advantage of.
Madden and NCAA producers have said for years that the proper way to play the game is not to "switch and dive" over and over again. But if your A.I. teammates have no awareness of ball carriers running right past them, it's only natural that you'll try to take control of them and fix what they aren't doing.
The fundamental problem with video game defense is that you only control 1/11th of the action, but they need to give your input an unrealistically high proportion of impact on the outcome of the play. The way they do that on higher levels, is to make your A.I. teammates increasingly dumb, so that you have to take control of the action. Otherwise, you could just play as a DT and run into the block everytime, and it'd be as if the computer was controlling the whole defense.Comment
