Main Reasons a College Athlete Might Get Suspended/Released?

I'm looking to create a card drawing system to replicate some of the real world variance that takes place when I play NCAA. From what I've read, player transgressions aren't included in NCAA, so if I want to suspend/ban, players, I'm going to have to do it myself. I would also like to implement a player per team to highly improve and highly regress per season using the same draw card system.

The only issue with the suspension/ban idea, I don't have a massive knowledge of college football so I wanted to know if anyone could help me hash out a set of basic rules I could follow to make my Dynasty more realistic.

    Reasons for suspension
    Likelihood of occurrence
    Potential length of suspension (weeks)

Something like that. I'm guessing that poor academic performance is probably the most common reasons for suspension from football? I saw the Everett Golson story a while back, and his "poor academic judgement". I also saw the Miami Hurricanes suspensions from this time last year, I'd imagine that is a little rarer tho?

    Any help most welcome!

Rated most likely to least likely:
      Academics
      Accepting gifts/benefits
      DUI
      Stealing/other Criminal Misc.
      Sexual assault
      Assault and battery

      Agreed?

      Potential Length of suspension
      Academics (1 game - season)
      Accepting gifts/benefits (3 games - season)
      DUI (6 games - indefinitely)
Stealing/other Criminal Misc. (season - indefinitely)
      Sexual assault (season - indefinitely)
Assault and battery (season - indefinitely)

I guess the bottom 3 could be a season if say, they were found not guilty, and released if the player was found guilty say?

I've seen kids get kicked off the team for "breaking athletic department rules."

I think you'll find this changes by the school. There's certain schools that won't suspend a prominent player for a damn thing, maybe a quarter, for doing any of the things listed. I'm not sure where a DUI gets you a 6 game suspension, other than maybe BYU, otherwise that would likely at most be 1-2 games, and most places probably wouldn't even be that harsh.

Thanks for that feedback, very useful. I've no idea so I was kinda guessing.

Check out the top of page 2 for the thread in my signature link. I have a google docs spreadsheet that does random rolls to see what players are impacted. You can tweak the numbers in green to increase / decrease the number of players / teams impacted. If you read through the thread a lot of people have had some really nice suggestions and tweaks as well as they made it their own.

Timeetyo, this is excellent. Thank you very much for the pointer. I will be using your violation idea as well as the gem/bust idea, they are both excellent and easy to implement.

The excel sheets are also very usable and exactly what I'm looking for. Total credit to you and the others that put it together!

The problem you are going to run into is the same one I did. I took Timeetyo's violations system that cut players in the off-season and implemented I a cool system that would suspend a player from 1-6 week and even get him cut. The problem is there is no way to "suspend" him. I originally planned to lower his ratings for that time so he dropped down the depth chart. Problem is even when they dropped to a 40 overall the CPU still started and played them the whole game.

the next idea was to lower their stamina to 0 or 1 so they never saw the field. I tried this over the course of 6 weeks and it never impacted QB's and had a very minimal impact on the other players.

There is a way to edit the CPU depth charts but you need to create a new coach, take the team over, and make the changes. The downside is this wipes out all of the coaches skill points. So if someone on Alabama was suspended and you created a new coach they lose Saban and everything he has built.

Yeah, this is why I go with a heavy handed NCAA mentality - you mess up - career over. /oops

I have resorted to your original idea like that too. Crossing my fingers something in the patch will allow a "suspension" system, buuuuuttttttt not holding my breathe.

I am also leaning towards the cut and not suspend tactic. Edit the player(s) affected so they are down to a pretty low overall. Based on the suggestions in your other thread about promotion relegations, the best time to do these edited changes are either straight after the final bowl game, or after the last pre season game before you roll it over to week 1.

                        Correct?
