More money EA or ESPN? Winner winner ESPN dinner..."And there's a frequent bug that turns the receivers' route markers into dancing squiggly lines. None of these problems destroy the fun of running a perfect option play, but they do take you out of what should be an immersive experience."....Comment

The removal of the NCAA from the game has no impact on whether a playoff will be included or not. EA didn't put the playoff into the game because of programming and space requirements to implement the change mid-dynasty. If NCAA Football 15 would have been around, the same playoff format we'll see next year would be included. Playoffs will be in next year's game to copy the real life setup.
Once again, the NCAA connection was purely cosmetic. Think of them as a logo and a name -- the same as having Denard Robinson on the cover. Next year someone else will be on the cover but the rest of the game won't be impacted by that.Comment

So it seems like as long as the CLC and CLPA (and the relevant institutions and bowls they represent) are still interested in being in the game it should be business as usual minus the NCAA pennant logo here and there, and the use of the acronym.
Sounds like the "NCAA" name was kind of like the Madden name in recent Madden titles. It served more as a name brand identifier than any specific utility in the game's licensing of actual teams and leagues.Comment

I think everyone knows that. However, NCAA was needed for the basketball NCAA tournament. The removal of the NCAA from the game has no impact on whether a playoff will be included or not. Perfect chance for EA to put the Div 1aa teams back in. Those were the days.
I did see the NCAA so I guess EA can just pay CLC to license NCAA that way, lol.Last edited by slick1ru2; 07-18-2013, 01:51 AM.Comment

This is huge news. Even if cfb still goes on, this pretty much may kill any chance of a cbb game coming back since its impossible to have one without the ncaa tournament/March madness being officially represented.Comment

They could, they would just have to rename it. NCAA doesn't hold a license to a 68 team bracket. EA just wouldn't be able to use their name or logo.Comment

How in the heck are obannon and other players in the wrong here? The ncaa uses these guys for things like video games and jerseys, while hoarding everything as a "non profit" organization.
Don't blame obannon, blame the ncaa for not giving its athletes the fair share. Anyone wanna guess how many #2 jerseys Texas a&m will sell this year? And how much of that goes to manziel? It's been a long time coming. Sucks that we lose out as gamers, but the players are totally within their rights from what I've read on the case.Comment

Yeah but from what I've read here ea would have to pay teams individually instead of having them packaged together under ncaa. Combine that w the fact that ncaa basketball games have never made too much money, and I think it's more unlikely we'll see one anytime soon.Comment

Re: NCAA Will Not Renew EA Sports Contract, NCAA Football Series is Dead in Name Only
I can't see a EA college football title lasting long without the NCAA license to be honest. They might be able to put back in cool last features such as suspension and celebrations, but I don't think they will be able to feature all the schools and conferences. Plus, would awards and bowls have their real life names attached to them? I don't want a Tangerine Bowl or National Title Bowl in place of real life bowl games and stadiums.
I just think this will end up being a peeled back version of what we are used to. The gameplay might be nice, but the realism, depth, and naming if schools/conferences/bowls/awards probably won't be the same.
I really hope 2K picks up the license but we are probably looking at a 2 year cycle before that is polished.
I have mixed feelings about EA losing the license. Yes they did get rather lazy on current gen with development, but they had the pieces in place. Now someone will have to start over on building a deep college football game.GT: Herkyalert

Obannon is just mad because he didn't end up being an NBA player. Do you really think if he was playing in that league he'd care about this? How in the heck are obannon and other players in the wrong here? He's just a bitter former athlete who never made it big. Same with Sam Keller. Paying college kids opens up a can of worms because they you have to look at every single sport. Football on down to field hockey. How do you determine who gets what?
As a former Division 1 track athlete, I understand the difference between sports, the income they bring, being a poor college student athlete, and having the university make money off kids, but in the end these guys and gals are getting school paid for. They also get perks your average student doesn't get. I knew plenty of former teammates and players who had nice cars and got very good interest rates because of who they were. That's just one example but I could go on.
In short, if you want to pay players you have to pay all of them and how do you quantify who gets what?Last edited by Herky; 07-18-2013, 07:46 AM.GT: Herkyalert
