Not to mention, if they continue to expand the EA Teambuilder feature, we'll not skip a beat. This is a purely cosmetic thing. Reminds me of the Pro Evolution Soccer series. They allow you to customize everything (including league logos). Heck, if EA added a simple league logo editor, we could get the NCAA logo and other related material back in the game scott-free.

Why am I the only one excited about this news? I feel like if anything, EA can create a game more creatively, and not worry about what the big brother "NCAA" thinks of it. Their only hurdle is school approval, I guess.

I can't see a EA college football title lasting long without the NCAA license to be honest. They might be able to put back in cool last features such as suspension and celebrations, but I don't think they will be able to feature all the schools and conferences. Plus, would awards and bowls have their real life names attached to them? I don't want a Tangerine Bowl or National Title Bowl in place of real life bowl games and stadiums.
I just think this will end up being a peeled back version of what we are used to. The gameplay might be nice, but the realism, depth, and naming if schools/conferences/bowls/awards probably won't be the same.
I really hope 2K picks up the license but we are probably looking at a 2 year cycle before that is polished.
I have mixed feelings about EA losing the license. Yes they did get rather lazy on current gen with development, but they had the pieces in place. Now someone will have to start over on building a deep college football game.
We survived just fine in the old Bill Walsh College Football days. We'll be fine now.Comment

Obannon is just mad because he didn't end up being an NBA player. Do you really think if he was playing in that league he'd care about this?
He's just a bitter former athlete who never made it big. Same with Sam Keller. Paying college kids opens up a can of worms because they you have to look at every single sport. Football on down to field hockey. How do you determine who gets what?
As a former Division 1 track athlete, I understand the difference between sports, the income they bring, being a poor college student athlete, and having the university make money off kids, but in the end these guys and gals are getting school paid for. They also get perks your average student doesn't get. I knew plenty of former teammates and players who had nice cars and got very good interest rates because of who they were. That's just one example but I could go on.
In short, if you want to pay players you have to pay all of them and how do you quantify who gets what?
In a perfect world, athletes would get paid based on how much revenue a short brings to a school.Comment

THE NCAA LICENSE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE UNIVERSITIES OR BOWLS OR AWARDS THAT ARE IN THE GAME.
EA HAS ALWAYS NEGOTIATED WITH THEM SEPARATELY!Comment

Re: NCAA Will Not Renew EA Sports Contract, NCAA Football Series is Dead in Name Only
We will all live, but I just would hate to have to go back to the way things were 12 to 15 years ago in terms of depth in a college football game. We've gotten used to a pretty deep product with EA and now things might be scaled back.
Like I said, I hope 2K jumps into the game because they made some fantastic sports games. College Hoops 2K8 still gets play out of me with the updated rosters. The presentation is still amazing in that game.GT: Herkyalert

Re: NCAA Will Not Renew EA Sports Contract, NCAA Football Series is Dead in Name Only
The conclusion: The fair market value for the average FBS football player is $137,357 per year, and the fair market value for the average men's basketball player is $289,031 per year.
Right now the average player earns just $23,204 in scholarship money.
I don't think players should get 50% of all revenue, but they definitely aren't getting their fair share right now.Comment

But would they be able to include everything from stadiums, fight songs and updated uniforms? Would every school that was in NCAA 14 be able to be in College Football 15? Are we looking at nothing changing at all from the license not being renewed?

She received her salary, but not a dime from the millions that her past company is raking in at the moment from the products sales in the fast food industry. While I understand that it sucks to be a athlete in college, and not get paid(I was one) these athletes know what they are doing when they sign their name to the dotted line on the Letter of Intent. Is it fair - probably not - but life really isn't about fair is it?Last edited by bluengold34_OS; 07-18-2013, 09:43 AM.Twitch - bluengold34_osComment

The NCAA doesnt control the stadiums/uniforms/logos/bowls/awards/fight songs. The CLC does for most of the schools. A few schools partner with another company and Notre Dame does it on their own. The Bowls always negotiated separately. Same with the awards.
The CLC/Bowls/Awards have no risk of legitimate litigation by continuing to be in the game. These schools arent going to turn away free money because the NCAA is in a lawsuit.Comment
