Turn Back the Clock: Post Season Edition

In keeping with the theme of my Turn Back the Clock rosters....I have decided to tackle some Post Season editions before choosing on my full roster set for this year.
These will include the Post Season teams for specific seasons and will have all the players that played at least one game for those clubs.

In the Vault right now is the 1949 Edition which is the Yankees and the Dodgers for 1949.

I am currently working on the 1973 Post Season set which will include the Mets, Reds, Orioles and Athletics.

I plan on doing 5 or 6 of these before tackling the full season set.

I would also like to do one year from each of the following decades...

    40's-completed 1949

    50's
    60's
    70's-Completed 1973
    80's-1984 Work In Progress

I'm up for suggestions....make it compelling!

Yankees fan here but I might like to see mid 60's Twins-Dodgers.

70's Big Red Machine- Red Sox or 77 or 78 Yanks-Dodgers.

One thing I would like to try and do is not to use the same teams for the different decades.(at least the World Series final teams)
Although using the Yanks and/or Dodgers again is fine by me as when I started the '49 set...I had something else in mind.

So for now if we can rule out the Mets and A's...that would be good.

If we did '67...I could do the Cards/Giants and the Red Sox/Twins.

'57 Could be the Yanks and White Sox...monster year for Mantle in '57

          I'd love to see a '67 set.
Pitching, defense and 2 out RBIs win a lot of ball games!

Re: Turn Back the Clock: Post Season Edition

I know this is off-kilter, but one thing I would love to see is the old "Earl Weaver" Rosters done. The ones that have the best from 00-30, then 31-45, then 46-60 and finally 61-75.

I actually got to the point where I made a 76-90 and 90-Modern day, so I had 6 teams in each league.

Those were some of the best times I've ever had, and I couldn't simulate any games, so given those 12 teams in THIS game, it would be a blast.

Again, off-kilter (so sorry for that), but you are good and if you ever hit a desire I would be right there backing you. I DO have the actually roster sets (I've kept them all these years) that came with that game, so I know exactly who was on each team.

Re: Turn Back the Clock: Post Season Edition

Earl Weaver was most likely my biggest influence in GAMING(not just baseball gaming).
I played that game an immense amount.

I enjoy roster sets with teams from different years...same era, but I've always preferred single season sets. All my High Heat rosters were single season sets(1951 and 1969 were likely my favorites ...I did everything on those INCLUDING inputting the players historical stats up to that year)

I finished the 25 man roster for the Mets last night and played the 2013 S.F. Giants in a season game.
Matlack was phenomenal through 6...but fell apart and gave up 3 in the 7th. Unfortunately that '73 Met team wasn't it's strongest on offense and when you have to turn to pinch hitters like Don Hahn...George Theodore or even the aging(AGING) Willie Mays....it doesn't spell much hope for a comeback.
Rusty Staub(who was having an awesome half year...326 BA....12 Hr's at that poing) flew out to LF to end the game.
                It was fun though!

Re: Turn Back the Clock: Post Season Edition

Finished up the Mets tonight. All players from '73 for them are complete.
(even Lute Barnes and Greg Harts )

I know I was only 8 going on 9 so 1973 isn't exactly crystal clear, but how the heck did that Mets squad make the playoffs let alone beat the Big Red Machine to face the A's in the Series and THEN make that a 7 game affair!?(and to be up 3 games to 2 after game 5 as well...man did I hate Holtzman and the A's for a long time after that series)

Well it will make for interesting play to try and replicate the feat anyway!

You know what they say, good pitching (starting in this case), beats good hitting.

Hey knight do you just do CPU vs CPU for the playoff series? Or do you actually play them? Just curious because your a big MoM guy.

It KILLS me that they forgot to add the MoM option into the Post Season mode....

I don't really use the Post Season mode...but I have been playing the 1949 W.S. with it.

I will be simming a franchise season to get to the playoffs with the set....
I'll have to dumb down some teams in order to get the correct teams in.
                          (obviously )

I think I will be adding in each team into one "master set" in which it will have mostly historical team on it anyway.

Yogi, Tug, the return of 'Say Hey', and the belief they could do it still sticking around from '69.

I still wonder about the '88 Dodger squad, myself.

That Met squad of a few years later was the first team I got into. Kranpool, Koosman, Matlack, Seaver...that brings back some serious nostalgia for me!

That is my thinking as well, Knight do you have "dumbed down" roster you currently have almost done that you could post by chance? If I had my vote on a 60's roster it would be 61 or 68. For the 80's, since there is an 83, 84, 88, 89 out already now, an 85 would be good, it would be fun to see if I could get the Tigers to Repeat
