The Wheel of destiny: Injury simulator

Since there's no real injury bug when you play each game in a dynasty mode, to add realism I made a little chart of odds and using

    Combined with

    http://www.random.org/

after each week spin the wheel of destiny!

    1) Click generate for the 1st number to see if there's an injury

    2) If there is click the generate button again to see the length of the injury

    3) Then click a 3rd time to see which poor soul gets the injury. Repeat if you got 2 injuries on your 1st number "spin".

edit: If you have a 3-4 the DT 3 would become your MLB3

I'm guessing you "spin" three times. The first determines the amount of injuries; the second determines the severity of the injury; and the third determines who gets injured.

Go to the number generator website. It generates a random number by default from 1-100.

So the click for the 1st number to see if there's an injury

If there is click the generate button again to see the length of the injury

Then click a 3rd time to see which poor soul gets the injury. Repeat if you got 2 injuries on your 1st number "spin".

Thanks, so then just remove them from depth chart I'm assuming for the appropriate period of time. And obviously whatever other injuries occurr are just a bonus lol

I would also like to have the possibility that kicker and punter get hurt. I think I will take one point from qb1 and 1 point from QB two. And allocate to punter and kicker

Eh... if you want your kickers to be included maybe substitute them for backup O linemen or something?

Re: The Wheel of destiny: Injury simulator

I like the idea, it made a few different thoughts cross my mind:

                1) The following page may be of use:
Page 2 of Timeetyo's NCAA 14 Relegation System
That page has an explanation and a link (2 post from bottom of page) to an excel sheet that does what you're trying to replicate here (his spreadsheet replicates NCAA offences and infractions). Full credit for him for the idea, and if you do use the spreadsheet, or the basis behind it to create your own, please drop him a message on that thread to thank him, it really is very easy to use. The legwork for creating the random numbers is done entirely in excel, and is pretty smart.

Use the random number command in excel, you can get it to draw you a random number between any 2 amounts, I believe that will replicate what you're trying to do here.

Use the formula =RANDBETWEEN(1,100) and that should do the trick.

                2) I like the idea of more user injuries, but I've not noticed how frequent the CPU teams pick up injuries. If you were to randomly generate between 5-10 injuries to your team per season, would that be a significantly larger amount than anything the CPU picks up? Or is the issue that CPU teams pick up injured players at a reasonable rate, and user injuries are largely absent? Is it a game wide problem, or just a user team problem?

At first I thought this was awesome! I was thinking of making the same kind of thing.. but I don't like this version you made when I realized it doesn't factor in the players injury rating AT ALL. What you need to do is have it so you roll once to determine if injury or not, roll again to determine player, roll again to determine length of injury.. but have a different injury chart for players with 1-50 injury, 60-70, 80-90, and 90-100, where the 90-100 would have the less severe injuries, and even possibly a 'no injury' possibility.

Any chance of adding something like that?

Re: The Wheel of destiny: Injury simulator

That's easy enough to do, just requires some setting up in excel. You could create 5 different number ranges that are dependant on a players injury rating.

                    For example:

                    Players with 0-50 injury rating:
                    0-35 no injury
                    36-45 - 1 week
                    46-55 - 2 weeks
                    56-65 - 3 weeks
                    66-75 - 4 weeks
                    76-85 - 6 weeks
                    86-94 - 8 weeks
                    95-96 - 10 weeks
                    97-98 - season
                    99-100 - career

Then for a player with injury 60-80 say, you just bump all your numbers up

                    0-65 no injury
                    66-70 - 1 week
                    71-76 - 2 weeks
                    77-83 - 3 weeks
                    84-87 - 4 weeks
                    88-91 - 6 weeks
                    92-94 - 8 weeks
                    95-96 - 10 weeks
                    97-98 - season
                    99-100 - career

Something like that. I guess keeping the top end same/similar replicates that any player can pick up a serious injury at any stage, but players with a low injury rating are much more likely to pick up small injuries and miss 1/2/3 weeks a lot more frequently.

I say use excel just because that's what I use, and it can do multiple random numbers at the same time. People can of course use whatever method they want.

My main concern is still making sure there is a balance with the injuries the CPU has per week/season

I like it Scrollbar! Yours is way better than what I've done in the past. (I drew names, injury type, and length out out of a hat). Same general concept, but I like how yours is much more involved.

This is pretty cool. Instead of doing it every week I will just do it every 5 weeks, cause well I'm Tulane and I'm trying to build up the team and I need every possible person lol

I did 3 quick runs to simulate 3 years, with 1 spin for each week, and the pre season.

                            The results:

                            Year 1:
                            Four 1 week injuries
                            One 3 week injury
                            One 5 week injury
                            Two 10 week injuries

                            22 Man- Starts lost

                            Year 2:
                            Four 1 week injuries
                            Two 2 week injuries
                            One 6 week injury
                            One 10 week injury
                            One Season ending injury

24 Man starts lost +1 player lost for the season, could be as many as 38-39 man starts

                            Year 3:
                            Six 1 week injuries
                            One 3 week injury
                            One 5 week injury
                            One 7 week injury
                            21 man games lost

                            Not bad so far.
