The Boston Way - A Brad Stevens Boston Celtic Association (NBA 2k13)

    Settings:
    Difficulty: Hall of Fame
    Rosters: Trifecta Off-Season 2013-14
Draft Class 13 - Created Draft Class with dud prospects all <45
Draft Class 14 and beyond - VTCRB 14 and 15
    Quarters - 9 minutes
    No Slider Adjustments

Association Theory: This will be an association focused on Brad Stevens rebuilding the roster and legacy of the Boston Celtics. The Celtics are rebuilding starting with 2013-14. I have started from Today in this association (August 3rd,2013) and will move forward from there. Brad Stevens focuses on The Butler Way - The philosophy of Butler University and how he will translate that to Boston to build a dynasty.

Stevens Hired as Boston Celtics Head Coach
Boston has replaced Doc Rivers, who they traded to the Los Angeles Clippers, with Butler's Brad Stevens

Boston (MA) - The Butler Way is headed to Boston.

The Boston Celtics have hired Butler University head coach Brad Stevens as their next head coach.

The 36-year old head coach was all smiles after being introduced as the head coach of the Celtics. General Manager Danny Ainge couldn't contain his excitement either.

"I'm very excited for this opportunity. I want to thank Danny for giving me the opportunity to be his first choice to replace Doc as head coach here in Boston. Boston is a special place and it is a great opportunity not only for myself, but also my family."

However, their excitement should be tempered. The Celtics have a giant task ahead of them under Stevens and Ainge. The Celtics are in complete rebuilding mode after trading franchise players Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce in the off-season to the Brooklyn Nets. The Celtics received a bounty in return including three 1st round picks (2014, 2016, 2018) and the ability to swap in 2017. They also have a 2015 1st round pick from the Clippers.

Stevens compiled the best start to a coaching career in the history of the NCAA. In his first six seasons as a head coach, Stevens led Butler to a record of 136-51 and two trips to the championship game.

"I want to take a moment to thank the people that I met and grew close with at Butler. It took a truly special opportunity to draw me away from the only thing that I have known in my coaching career. I spent 13 years at Butler as an assistant and the head coach and thank every player, coach, and person that I met for making my time at Butler truly special. I will try to use the principles that I learned at Butler here in Boston. It was successful there and should be successful here as well."

Butler is famous for The Butler Way, a set of ideals for the players and community to live up to. The Butler Way demands commitment, denies selfishness, accepts reality, yet seeks improvement everyday while putting the team above self.

The new Celtic head coach will be bringing a few pieces from his Butler program to Boston in order to help smooth the transition. Micah Shrewsberry, former assistant at Butler and current assistant at Purdue, Ronald Nored, former Butler point guard and current assistant at South Alabama, and Drew Cannon, Stevens' stats guru at Butler.

"I wanted to give some of the coaches that I worked with at Butler the same opportunity that I had gotten. They are certainly worthy of the job and I look forward to seeing their ability shine at the professional level.

"I look forward to getting started here in Boston. I will work closely with Danny in order to round out this team with not only quality players that will make us successful on the court, but also a team full of players that will make Boston proud off of it."

          Celtics Trade for Gordon Hayward
Stevens looked to reconnect with his most talented player at Butler, Hayward

Boston (MA) Boston has traded Gerald Wallace (79 overall) and 2015 2nd Round pick for Gordon Hayward (76).

Hayward, 23, was the 9th pick in the 2010 NBA Draft by the Jazz out of Butler.

Stevens was looking for a way to add to his team by grabbing the ultra talented wing from Butler.

"His length and ability to do so many things on the court were something that I loved having at Butler. He is more athletic than a lot of people realize, can guard more than one position, and really spaces the floor well. He can handle it very well for a shooting guard and shoots the three well also. Really excited to have Gordon back on my team."

Hayward has 1 year left on his original rookie contract at $4.67 million.

His career averages in Utah were 25.4 minutes, scoring 10.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 0.7 steals per game. He shot 40.1% from the 3-point arc and 81% from the FT line, while shooting 45% from the floor.

"While the draft in 2014 is very deep and potentially deep in 2015, we felt that we wouldn't have gotten as good of a player as Gordon in the 2nd round next year. We wish well to Gerald and all the success with the Jazz."

I probably should have given up a 1st rounder to make it more realistic, seeing as Wallace has a huge contract too, but they took the 2nd rounder, so I thought I would roll with it.

Thanks for following. Busy at work, but trying to get this started ASAP

I will have some serious questions to answer in the off-season, as 4/5 starters are on 1 year deals and 4 of 8 reserves as well. Should be really interesting.

Even though the trade itself was so unfair to the Jazz, I'm okay with it because seeing players get back with their old coaches is always fun. Best of luck here and will be following.
