Re: FIFA 13 Questions & Answers

Took a transfer offer to move from Leeds to Sporting CP. My player is only 75, which puts him mid-level on that team, but I've been starting and have come up with some goals and gotten MotM twice. Problem is that the Upcoming Goals require me to keep and average 9.0 match rating, 90% pass rating, and 85% tackle rating. This is insane. I've never scored above a 7.8 in match rating ever. I think I've seen my match rating in game go above 9 maybe twice or 3 times since I've been playing. Will the manager adjust these ratings to something more reasonable once I start missing the targets? The League Objectives are fine, though. It's just the 4 game Upcoming Goals are crazy high.

Upcoming goals are chosen based on previous performances. So if you're on a tear, more likely to get high objectives because that's what's expected. But if you are not, then manager won't expect as much. So upcoming goals are based more on form, while season goals are based more on what is expected based on your overall ability.

Cool. Thanks for the reply. You're right, and after a couple times of not fulfilling the goals, it seems like the Upcoming Targets have readjusted to something a bit more reasonable. Amazing how playing with better players and in a formation I understand a bit more, position-wise, is helping with my match rating. On lower level teams I was always struggling to make above 6.3, but now I'm constantly pushing 7. Of course, I'm also getting better.

Good to hear man. It's good to find a team that fits your style. Tried playing some in Italy, but couldn't get it going with AC. BPL-Sides seemed to work better with me and I played better.

Funny. After a single time of reasonable Upcoming Targets (and hitting those), I'm back to the unreasonable ones. Guess I'll just ping-pong back and forth.

I have the same problem sometimes. I think part of the reason is to challenge you to keep up with your season goals (like I got injured and had absurd targets for a couple weeks when I returned), or if you have a really good run of form to try to make you maintain it. It's fine, but I hate the negative that comes with not meeting those ridiculous targets.

What are the negatives, exactly? It's also nice that within the ridiculous pass and tackle percentages and high player rating, there is the "keep 1 clean sheet" goal which is one I can always do. Another question for you guys: I was transferred over to Sporting CP. They're a pretty high level team, but I've been holding my own, scoring a few goals, getting assists, doing well on player rating (crazy Upcoming Targets notwithstanding), and I think I've been a good addition to the team. In the most recent transfer window since my move here I was told by the manager that they're going to put me on loan! What's up with that? I'm doing great. I like this team. I'm helping out, and now they want to send me to some po-dunk team in Poland or where ever. I've been rejecting these loan offers left and right, and then I've also been getting transfer offers as well (one of PSG, one of the best teams in the game). I kinda want to stay with Sporting since their formation and play-style suit my game. But does the fact that they put me up for loan and I keep rejecting the offers mean that the team might want to trade me away? Seems odd since they spent so much to get me there not even a half-season ago.

Another question: do teams and players have hot and cold streaks in this game, like in the NHL series? Things started off red-hot for my team and for me as well, but it seems like in this last group of games passes that I was making a few games ago are now going astray and the players on my team are making crappy passes and taking bad shots. I haven't changed the way I've played recently but what I'm doing isn't producing the same results. Is there a chemistry mechanic that I'm unaware of, or does the computer handicap you if you start doing well?

Putting you out on loan isn't to get rid of you. It's to send you somewhere where you might get more first team opportunities and a chance to build your skills up better and then return to your old team to help out.

Yes, there is player form both for you and your teammates. If someone has a bad couple games, their form might drop, even affecting their overall skills and definitely certain skills. There's a way to check it out, but I can't remember exact area to find it. Might be under team mgmt, player ratings or something.

Yeah, I get that. I just felt jilted since up to that point I'd been playing well with the team, getting goals, getting assists, getting a great player rating. Didn't really know why they wanted to move me to another team when I'd been starting and doing well there. Oh well. It's moot now since during the next transfer window I took a transfer to Olympique Lyon.

I know about the player form, but isn't that tied to your player rating? I don't really understand that "Squad ranking" page, because even though my player form is "good" and around a green 6.6, I was ranked lower than a bunch of yellow 5.9ish players. Didn't really understand why.

Also, there is a huge difference in play when, for whatever reason it is, your ranking is low. For the second half of my time with Sporting I was struggling to make passes and was getting docked for being "out of position" (even though there were now yellow arrows around me, and at the end of the game the "out of position" part of my player performance was 0) even though I continued to do the same things I'd done in the beginning of the season. I mean, the exact same pass I'd make to my center forward, which in the first half would almost always complete, was now being intercepted or going off at weird angles. I felt slower too, my running seemed slow and so did my sprinting.

But once I transferred to OL, my passing is back to form and I feel I'm moving at my normal speeds. So strange.

I think they put you out to loan based on overall, because that's supposed to be closer to your actual skill level. So the team thinks, even though you're having a great three or four game span, you're still a level 70-something, so loaning you out will help you gain a higher level because competition on their squad may be too tough.

And what I meant by rankings is, it's somewhat tied into form, but not completely. Even though you may be having a run of 8.0's as a 72, you're not going to be placed above a vidic having a run of 6.9 at an ovr 84. However, your 8.0's might help you become a ovr 72(+3) which means you'll play as if you're a 75 while you're truly not.

And I think the way you're playing in a game, + form + happiness affects you on an game to game basis, so moving to another team would put you back at even and make your passing sharper. Plus, if you're having a good game, you're more accurate and vice-versa.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I'll keep that in mind as this season moves on.

Wish this stuff was more obvious in the game. Would save a lot of screaming at the screen. My neighbors must think I'm insane.

Haha sometimes the game can be frustrating, but so can real soccer. So that seems fair.

New question: standing tackles, how do these work exactly? Playing defense is probably one of the things I try hardest at and also have my least success. Here's what I end up doing:

Guy gets the ball in front of me or near me or whatever, and I get close to him and hold the left trigger to jockey. Once I'm up really close I start mashing the green A button. Sometimes I'll get a poke check in. Sometimes not. I rarely, if ever, use the blue X or red A buttons since I tend to miss those and that'll cause my player rating to drop by .3 or .4 points.

A lot of times when running at a player during a 50/50 ball, my guy will kinda skirt around my target or stop running even though I didn't stop pushing the L-stick. Sometimes I'll intercept the pass. Sometimes I won't stick my leg out.

This all seems really random to me. I'll have a great defensive game one game, and then, doing the same things, have a poor game. Is this all based on stats? Am I mashing the wrong buttons? Should I stop mashing and only hit the button once at the correct time?
