    Read Option House Rules

I think that without a patch the read option is basically unstoppable, The CPU close to 90% of the time chases the RB and leaves the QB guaranteeing at least a 7+ yard run. Jameis Winston is leading the nation in rushing in my FSU dynasty (About 13 ypc) so I think that some house rules are necessary. I thought I'd show you guys mine and everyone can share how often or how they handle running the read option.

    -Only run once per quarter
-Can't run it on 3rd down
-can't run it on 4th down
-can't run it inside the 5 yard line

    What are you guys using?

I run an option offense in one of my dynasties and there are certainly users, and occasionally the CPU, who shut it down. It's stoppable.

Agree. With right sliders good defensive teams give me fits when I run spread option plays. It destroys bad defenses though. The best thing this game could do to neutralize its effectiveness is implement a fumble slider

Bogus house rules. Figure out a defense to stop it.

I have been running the read option exclusively for at least 3 years now...it is the offense that I was most intrigued by quite honestly. I attended a coaching seminar and chip kelley was a speaker and he went into the concepts, I decided it was for me.

I ran the early 90's Nebraska Power I/ Power Option offense for years before this, with only a year or two deviation running a one back offense/ pro style.

I understand that they made it very difficult this year, I am a defensive guy at heart, and hate what they've turned it into. But THAT is the game. I wasn't complaining when I was facing 5 wide every game online the past few years...take your lumps. Ultimately- just learn to stop it. If you can't- be sure you can score enough points.

First 2 plays of the game. Heisman/Heisman, needs to be addressed in a patch, it's cheese.

                      Re: Read Option House Rules

I've seen a couple posts about the read option being unstoppable, I have even see one guy say he uses USER run block at zero and CPU run D at 100 and still can't be stopped.

It's just weird that I don't see the same thing. We have a number of spread option guys in our OD and with the our sliders (Charters old base set that I modified for our needs) those guys still hover around 4.2-5 YPC, definitely not unstoppable, and I definitely haven't felt "cheesed" by it when I played users, you just gotta play defense differently this year than in years past.

I am offline only, and I have yet to see a slider set on these boards where the CPU can hold the QB under 5-7 YPC I am saying the Read Option AI reaction needs to be fixed, the LB/DE ALWAYS goes after the RB leaving the QB Wide open if you guys are saying there is no issue with the way the CPU reacts the the Read option then I'm sorry you just don't know football.

                          Re: Read Option House Rules

Run the scrape exchange with your playside DE and Sam LB. In a 3 down lineman set, make that free LB have contain on the outside and shift your D lineman to to the playside and spread your linebackers out. Effective covering the read option. Use your LB/Dlineman shifts, they're underutilized in effectively stopping the run

Also, to try to use your audibles more. I have two of my audibles a base man in the 3-4 and a blitz in the 1-5-5 nano where the front 7 moves around to try to confuse the O-line and the QB. When you audible from either a 4-3 to a 3-4 using that now extra D-lineman as a spy or from a nickel base to the nickel 1-5-5 nano, it is an effective tool to stopping the option because the QB doesn't know who to read and has a good chance of getting stuffed.

                          Hope this helps

One thing I would like to see "patched" or "tuned" is the frequency of the read man crashing down. It's a lot easier to run when 90% of the time the CPU takes RB and leaves nobody in front of the QB

Yea you guys are seriously missing the point of this thread I am referring to how the CPU defends the read option when YOU the USER decide to run with the QB it is a guaranteed 7 yard gain, the Frequency in which the CPU defender stays with the QB needs to be drastically increased.
