After seeing this news and reading about some schools possibly pulling out, I'm thinking I should go get me a couple of copies of this years NCAA and leave them in the plastic. I have a feeling that they will be very valuable one day.

Well, by the looks of it, they're just gonna not have some logos/schools. But since EA has TeamBuilder, Create a Conference and School is now a must have if they want to make fans happy. But it would suck if some schools would drop out, especially the big schools. Maybe this will inspire EA to actually improve on the game since this is a near death blow. Lackluster is the word for 7th gen Sports Games by EA, maybe even overall for the genre since there's significantly less competition in each sport.

It doesn't work like that if its user created. That's why you don't see suits for people creating players/things that aren't licensed in video games. I think as long as they don't mention any of the trademarks not licensed to them, they would be in the clear. But you never know about the random guy with a suit.

The easiest way for me to explain it to you is this:

There are 3 separate entities that make up the NCAA football game
            1) The NCAA
            2) individual Conferences
            3)individual schools

Now the NCAA owns the rights to things like The NCAA logo and the BCS I believe, maybe even Bowl Games but I'm not sure.

The conferences own the rights to conference names, logos, and patches.

The schools own everything related to their school like logos, uniforms, stadiums, fight songs etc.

As it stands now the NCAA and 3 of the bigger market conferences have decided to pull their rights from the game. If this continues to snowball all it takes is one big time school to pull their rights and I believe almost all will follow, leaving us with a game that contains no NCAA, no real conferences and no real schools.

This is all in an attempt of those entities to distance themselves from the O'Bannon case that I believe EA is eventually going to lose.

Contract between EA and the conferences??

If there is I would bet it ran out with this game just like NCAAs contract did.

                Two things of note:

                1) This will save me money each year and make it such that I won't want to grab the new console.

                2) I know it wouldn't be as fun but could EA not just go the Ultimate team route, renegotiate with the conferences and even the NCAA but just use old rosters with non-active players and negotiate with them individually?

Big 12 looks to still be in according to Yahoo. The rest of the confrences are "evaluating" the situation

I'm surprised there has been no other news, no EA response. I thought i'd be coming in to work today and already have some reading to do.

Perhaps they are still reeling from the announcement, maybe this is just a negotiating tactic from those conferences to get more money? I don't know but there is no way this is a good thing for EA and the future of the NCAA franchise.

You know that if the NCAA and EA win their argument against O'Bannon, they'll all come rushing back with another game.

It doesn't say anywhere in that article that the big 12 is still in... He said "nothing has changed"... I would expect to see all BCS conferences withdrawal by the end of this week...

Looking from a glass half full perspective...A lot of folks on here talk about how they wish EA would release the game every 2 years to make sure they get things right. In a perfect world, IF the game is canceled because of the ongoing lawsuit, wouldn't it be nice if EA/NCAA won and EA started with a new build on next gen. I understand Ignite is supposed to be great, but isn't the game supposed to be built with a lot of the same code? Could this process be a blessing in disguise. I understand the NCAA and the conferences are running for cover now, but if they win the lawsuit, then that would end all of our problems. It would also give EA a chance at another build......this is me hoping they would scrap the current one in the meantime...
