Re: Official Buffalo Bills Thread
he is fighting for his job. we drafted hopkins in the 6th round and he was the best kicker in college the past couple seasons. his leg is a lot stronger than lindell's too. lindell is gonna get cut IMO.Comment

Yeah when I saw that Hopkins was drafted I had a feeling Lindell's days were numbered. We'll see what happens but I tend to agree with you. He's gonna get his walking papers.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

I'm ok with that. He just doesn't have the leg strength to get the job done anymore. So really it's a no brainer to me but only if the kid can prove he is a competent kicker and can do the job on knockoffs as well. Cant be paying for two kickers on the rosterS.O.S Crew:

Re: Official Buffalo Bills Thread
I'd rather still have Lindell. The guy has been money for years. Did any of his kicks ever come up short last season? I know he missed over 45 a few times but I don't remember them falling short. Thanks to LBzrules: So these threads won't be forever lost.

I vividly remember a couple of times where we didn't even send him out there for a 50 yard kick. When I saw that our staff didnt have confidence in him to hit it from 50 yards away, that's when I wanted a new kicker.
At training camp, Lindell puts everything he has into it to get it to to 50. Hopkins was hitting 56 yarders with at least 10 yards to spare.NFL: Bills

Re: Official Buffalo Bills Thread
I'm not sure who Elliott Harrison is but his take on NFL.com is pretty great:
Amazing how standards have changed for rookie quarterbacks. EJ Manuel was 16-for-21 and posted a passer rating of 102.7 against the Colts on Sunday to reviews of "He looked pretty good." Dude, it was his first dance in the NFL. Manuel was 9-of-9 throwing with a touchdown in the two-minute drill -- who cares if it wasn't against starters. More than any other franchise in the NFL, the Buffalo Bills need something to galvanize the organization. It's here.Proud member of the OS Bills Backers.

I agree, and I think everyone does, that it's a great first step. But the reality is it's preseason. We've seen good performances from our no-name QB flameouts in the regular season for few game stretches. We need consistency over a full 16 game schedule.
But yes, definitely better then him coming out in his first NFL action and passing 4 of 18 with a couple INT's. Its gotta be a confidence builder for him. It's an exciting stat line for us the fans, too.
I'm sure you were expecting the "it's only preseason!" responses. LolNHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Re: Official Buffalo Bills Thread
I'm pretty sure Muggins and I see eye to eye on this but the last few years with rookie QBs having seasons that some veterans would be envy of has totally warped the expectations of fans and even personnel people. I think of Kapaernick, RGIII and Russell Wilson as exceptions rather than a new trend. Yes, Manuel didn't "wow" anyone but as I said in my post he didn't make the stupid kind of mistakes that Fitzpatrick made and he ran the ball when there was room to run. I'm a bit mystified as to why they didn't go down the field more but I expect to see that against the Vikings.I agree, and I think everyone does, that it's a great first step. This is the reason why i'm a bit skeptical about Tuel, yes he looked great but you guys can't have it both ways and say he's amazing when he's taking on 3rd stringers fer cryin' out loud! However I agree with the sentiment that Kolb should be looking over his shoulder as I think Tuel may jump up the depth chart and push him out.
Time will tell but i'm willing to see a project QB with untapped potential go through a little growing pains as long as he's not doing anything egregious on the field.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Sounds like Tuel had a bad practiceJeff Tuel is having an awful day. Multiple interceptions and a ball come out of his hand and sail behind him in a drill with no pass rush.Proud member of the OS Bills Backers.

Marrone named kolb the starter for tomorrow. I'm not sure if this is just a ploy to make people think EJ hasn't won the job yet or if he really hasn't. Either way I don't think it benefits them in any wayS.O.S Crew:

Like it or not, Kolb has seniority and he has to be given a legit shot at the job so I don't see the big deal with him being named the starter.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Official Buffalo Bills Thread
If playing time for Kolb leads to his early exit from the roster, then I'm all for it...

Let's face it, EJ may be a stretch, Tuel is a project player (at best) and Kolb?
Well, Kolb's not even remotely "NFL Starter" caliber, never will be AND is injury prone...
Bonus: Bevis and Butthead level humor involving the current 3rd stringers surname...Comment
