Losing points because you havent offered scholarship yet?

I have these 2 recruits I have been after all year and its week 6 now. I have been right in the race within 500 points so far and slowly gaining. Well suddenly on both of them I went down by 800+ points after simulating from week 5 to week 6! They didnt take any visits yet and I was giving them max points just like the previous weeks.

My only idea is that it must have something to do with not offering scholarship yet, so I think if you wait too long you get points taken away.

I was waiting to become 1st before offering the scholarship (to try and insta commit) but it looks like it really cost me dearly.

Anyone else have any experiences like this?

Yes. I specifically recall this happening to an 84 OVR kicker I was recruiting just a couple of weeks ago. I was in first and slowly pulling away when suddenly one week I was in third for seemingly no reason. I noticed I forgot to offer, slapped myself on the forehead and then extended the offer. I got back in first pretty quick and got the commitment, but learned a lesson.

I think they are gaining points for offering during the week 5 to week 6 jump (or whichever week it happens in your dynasty). Then, as soon as you offer, you make up the points.

I don't know why you wouldn't offer them as soon as they're on your board. It just seems like the odds of you getting an Insta-commit are near high enough to take that risk

Maybe in previous versions, but not NCAA14. If you have the coach skill maxed out for insta commits, there's at least a 20% chance of getting them.

If you haven't become their top after 5 weeks after dumping 500-600 a week into them, then I'd just throw the IC out the window and offer them. By that time they've either scheduled a visit with their top or already visited their top, and then even then it could become a pendulum with the visit bonuses. Might as well bite the bullet and offer.

20% is much too low for me to hold out that long. I offer as soon as they're on the board and visit as late as possible.

You were saying when its best to offer scholarships.. no where did I ask that.. I asked for peoples experiences with waiting long to offer scholarships and if they noticed sudden point drops like I did in my dynasty.

I would think that discussing what week to offer would be in the same topic of conversation as what week you start losing points for an offer, but maybe that's just me.

I am in year 3 of recruiting (2 in playing) and I too held out on offering on a number of guys in hopes of getting the 20% commit and yes, you are correct in that it seems to work SEVERELY against you which really makes a lot of sense in real life. If a player doesn't have an offer in real life deeper into the season, he will begin to pay attention to the schools who have much more.

In my opinion EA should at least explain how this works.

I thought 500pts was the max?

There's a branch on the skill tree that increases it for the first 6 weeks and last 6 weeks of the season

Right. I have both maxed out anyway.
