What you seem to be overlooking is context, meaning M07-M09 where early on for next-gen consoles, whereas M25 is near the end of those same consoles. I was actually able to tolerate M06-M09 due to the hope that it was still early on these consoles and things could get much better. However here we are some 5 editions later since M09 at M25 and Madden is still inferior to football games from last gen in many areas, as well as to other current top YEARLY sports titles.

Re: Madden NFL 25 Demo Review Roundtable
Great review guys. I must say that Ncaa football 14 pass defense is even worse than Madden's but overall Ncaa plays better, the game is alot smoother, running is more natural and IE tackling is way better. People keep complaining about the defense but the offense is just as bad in Madden and Ncaa with unnatural passing mechcanics, Tim Tebow can be just as good as Tom Brady in this game, the same old catch animations (receivers don't jump and turn their bodies towards balls thrown behind them and they don't even go low to the ground for balls, two types of catches that happen regular in every football game in real life.) At this point I'm just waiting on next gen and I'm not even confident they will deliver then.
I said this in the demo impressions thread and you jumped all over me saying that Madden 25 was a 1000x better game.Comment

EA is not good at making a quality football game. It's as simple as that. Just because they were able to nail it on the Sega Genesis or PS1 years ago doesn't mean they are still good at it. This entire generation of systems, PS3 & XBox360, has been the biggest disappointment of football games with what EA has given us.Comment

I think everyone is over reacting a little here. I do not think the demo has been that bad! Sure the offense feels a little over powered and the zone defenses are very ineffective, but zone defense as a whole has been becoming less effective and faux paux in the real NFL for a couple of years now. When I played the demo I was surprisingly happy with several improvements they have made. Pass rushing for instance. I came off the edge with Aldon Smith, right sticked to the inside doing a very fluid swim move and swatting Joe Staleys hands out of the way beating him to the inside. At this point Ray Rice stepped back and eye'd me as a threat. I pressed the square button with Joe Flacco about 3 yards away from me and Ray Rice between us trying to pick up the block. Much to my surprise Aldon Smioth completely blew up Ray Rice and sacked Joe Flacco viciously (I wished I would have recorded this). This is how the NFL should play. Amazing athletes, with the elite ones making unbelievable plays!
Another thing that is improved is the awareness of the sideline by receivers as well as playing the ball in the air. I was about 6 yards out from the goal line and called for a fade to Michael Cradtree. I lobbed it perfectly over the defenders head and high to Crabtree. I was pleasantly surprised to not only see Crabtree, get eleveation, square his hips up to the pass and play the ball as it should be on this route, but he came down with enough sense to get both feet in bounds to secure the touchdown.
Look I know this game is not perfect. We are at the end of this gen console and they have pretty much expended all new innovation for this generations consoles. But if you go into this game with expectations and open yourself up to just having fun then I think most of you will enjoy this game. I definitely see improvements over the last two years installments.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 25 Demo Review Roundtable
This game is awful. Sure, there are things there, but as long as the passing game is unstoppable, whats the point? Someone playing this game for two weeks could literally tackle All Madden and win with limited football knowledge because of the ridiculous ease of passing.
I don't know how EA scored that Sunday Ticket Deal, but it pains me to know I am actually purchasing it because of that.Comment

I agree this generation of football games has been utter disappointment which is why exclusive licenses should never even be an option. Blame the nfl for that. I've played the nfl and NHL demo and I'm disappointed in both titles.. They both look like minor improvements from 2013 and slap a 60 price tag on it. Can u imagine if 2k had a nfl game coming to ps4 nfl 2k14.. I get depressed thinking of that and what could have been.. I hope 2k makes a NHL game for 2015 because I'm getting tired of EAs efforts.Comment

If they r going to give out exclusivity give it to the right people.. 2k makes nfl, nba , EA make baseball.. Triple play series.Comment

Interesting, as I immediately felt that the demo was worlds better than the mess that was Madden 13. The physics engine was such a disaster that the game was inevitably frustrating to play. While there are clearly defensive deficiencies in the demo, the smoothness of the control is much better, and the pulled back camera is an improvement to play.
I've been lukewarm at best about EA's football product post Madden 10, but this demo is easily the most fun to play of the Maddens since then.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 25 Demo Review Roundtable
If I did it was because I thought the pass defense, graphics, and presentation was better in Madden and that got me excited. But after playing more games of Madden and going back and playing Ncaa Football 14 after the 2nd patch and I was able to see the difference and Ncaa Football plays better right now, both games are bad imo btw.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 25 Demo Review Roundtable
I've been saying if the NFL wants to do exclusive deals then at least do it with one other company, make the NFL license exclusive to only two companies. And the only other company that has the money and resources to make a great NFL game is 2K Sports. I really hope the NFL decides to lend their license to at least one other company (cough 2K) for the sake of competition and giving people a choice like all the other sports games.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 25 Demo Review Roundtable
Ya know, it seems like after all these years camera angles would be the easiest thing to get feedback on and put some nice angles in the game. Ones that cover a range of tastes easily. But I swear they bumble and stumble endlessly with them Lol. I don't get it. The coordinator can in NCAA is a great cam and was received well so they'll probably not use it anymore lol. I'm hoping next gen they have loads of camera options and maybe custom cams.........Comment

Re: Madden NFL 25 Demo Review Roundtable
Here is where I am lost. I almost hate EA football games now after backing them for years, but sliders really have an impact and if owner mode and CCM play fine, the fact sliders guys are seeing hope is huge and controlling every team will take a lot of AI wackiness away. I don't care about jerseys, etc. If the game plays decent I will finally not trade it in. Actually traded NCAA in because sliders just don't work. Demo in Madden has actually been a surprise in a good way.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 25 Demo Review Roundtable
Why do so many people say "is it perfect?....etc", as if the only two choices are perfect or Madden, lol. Madden doesn't need to be "perfect" to be better than what it is. It's fine if people are able to tolerate or even enjoy this game but please stop acting as if that equates to it being as good a football game as it reasonably could be. Madden is great as a party favor, something you bring out to commune with family and friends but it's extremely lacking in representing NFL football. I admire the slider gurus and roster creators out there but that stuff can't help completely ridiculous things like limited animations, an archaic injury system, broken penalties, missing player management aspects, tethered passing, artistic presentation, on and on.
I wish more people would say "is it a good representation of NFL football? no but I don't care...." instead of implying a better Madden equates to perfect. For Pete's sake, the game just added foot planting this year, effing foot planting for a football game gets added in the 9th edition but "it's fun" so who cares. Super Mario Cart is fun too but that doesn't make it a good representation of racing, smh.Last edited by Big FN Deal; 08-22-2013, 06:29 PM.Comment
