Re: Madden NFL 25 Impressions Thread

I try every year to give madden a shot, and after playing just one game on 10 min quarters on all-madden, I can say EA won't be getting my 60 this year.

    Positives

    1) The changes in connected careers seems to be awesome so far. Instead of naming the various options you have as a coach or owner I will just simply say I couldn't ask for more.
    2) The running system is really a step in the right direction. I really felt like a had total control over what I wanted move I wanted to perform with my running back.

    Negatives

I feel the game play just kills the game for me. I know I only played one game but I constantly found myself pausing and going to replay while saying did that really just happen? Here are just three problems that I had.
1)I noticed that after my quarterback (Cutler) dropped back, he did nothing but stare straight down the middle of the field, I hit a receiver (Marshall) on a wide open slant in which he then broke two tackles. YES two tackles on all-madden, granted it was Marshall it was something that shouldn't be a surprise, yet knowing maddens past on how difficult all madden is, it really shocked me. After viewing the replay I noticed how Cutler stared down the field and also that while his arm motion was going straight down the field as if he was going to throw directly down the center of the field, the ball magically came off his hand going at a 90 degree angle. Something that would be impossible.
    2) The offensive and defensive line play is disappointing to say the least. I could not get past any of the Bengal's offensive lineman to save my life. I also noticed that it was impossible(literally) even for my CPU defensive linemen to get to the quarterback as my team recorded not one sack during the whole game. Also the Bengal's linemen were doing it with ease. as I would rush four linemen, their four would stuff them every single play as if it was pro bowlers going up against four linemen made up of five year old's. The thing that made it even worse was that the fifth linemen and if a tight end or running back was designed to block would stand in place, not double teaming or doing anything productive. Needless to say Dalton tore my defense apart. and that brings me to my third and final problem
    3) My pass defense was a total fail. I know this was due to my lack of any pressure on Dalton but there were still many times where I would drop back six or seven and just get worked by any player that had a ball thrown his way. I tried Zone, Man, Blitz's and all that jazz, you get the idea and not one time was I successful on actually stopping the offense unless a receiver dropped a ball or wasn't able to get two feet down before going out of bounce.

The last two problems I explained really have me asking myself do the ratings really matter? I mean come on Peppers who is a 92 I believe, getting shut down all game, without even a double team? Charles Tillman (95) and Tim Jennings (90) could do nothing productive on defense. And Lance Briggs a 94 having absolute no impact on the game. Briggs played the exact same way that MLB D.J. Williams (80) and LOLB James Anderson (82) played. Like Chris Berman says "C'mon man"!

My apologies for this long rant on just three problems I found in just one game of madden. I'm just curious if anyone has encountered any similar problems, or maybe didn't realize one of them were happening. Yes I know I really focused on the negatives but that's just simply what I took away from my experience so far. Please give me some feed back, not looking to bash Madden, just looking for a more realistic experience.

When I get pressure on the QB I see him run to the right and throw across his body to the left way to often. Wild crazy passes to the left and its completed.

Re: Madden NFL 25 Impressions Thread

Just finished my first game, Giants (me) vs Eagles. 5 min quarters, All Madden, default everything. Some thoughts:

        1) CPU offense is strong. Not sure if it's just because I'm not very good yet, but Vick tore me up on the ground on scrambles and when he did throw, he was 7/7 by the end of the game for 100+ yards. I held McCoy in check for the most part til the end of the game when he broke a 70 yarder on me, but for the most part I didn't feel like he was impossible to tackle or anything. Looking forward to seeing what happens against some of the better backs in the game.

        2) I saw someone use the term "sloppy" somewhere to describe the presentation of the game, and I can't argue with that. It's just rough around the edges. Cut scene transitions aren't the smoothest and commentary is pretty brutal (Simms mocking me for going for it on 4th down trailing by a TD inside the red zone with 30 second left for example). It all just seems disjointed. This doesn't bother me nearly as much as it will some people though, heck I skip through cut scenes and presentation on The Show all the time. I just don't have more than 30-45 mins at a time to get through a game, so I generally skip alot of the fluff and half the time I'm listening to music anyway (or watching baseball or something else on my laptop) while playing regardless of the game.

        3) That being said, I liked the flow of the game. It seemed like the game flew by, which by comparison I've felt like games in NCAA this year tend to drag (though I do enjoy NCAA also).

        4) Default All-Madden didn't have the frustration level of years past, passing deep was hard but I did manage to hit Nicks on a deep ball where the safety seemed to bite on trying to play a short route. Hopefully this isn't going to be like NCAA with the DB glitch, but time will tell.

I can definitely see where guys who are dying for a true to life NFL sim are going to be disappointed, but at this point it's Madden, I think we all know what we're going to get each year. All in all I'm excited to play my next game and can see playing many more after that. At this point in life with my limited gaming time, I don't mind seeing some inflated offensive numbers (which sliders can probably take care of) and weak presentation aspects as long as the game is fun from snap to tackle each play, and so far so good.

Have you turned the accuracy down at all?

          Impression:
Was pleasantly surprised when I enjoyed the demo as I haven't really enjoyed a Madden game since 10 which still wasn't all that great. After downloading the early release i think it plays even better than the demo. Coverage seems to be tighter and the game feels really smooth. CPU is more competitive than anything I could ever achieve in NCAA and offline franchise w/ my roommate is going to be a blast

Not very impressed with default slider at this point. Game is all offense. QBs are to accurate, sprite, speedy running backs just running over LBs, Oline dominates at the point of attack on run plays, receivers make phenomenal catches, Dbs, can't cover M2M, or in zone on the outside.

To be fair I do feel that some zone overages in the middle are improved. It was also strange to see Kevin Kolb decide to keep the ball on a read option play. I really, really hope that slider work and this game can be tightened up. Could be fun, but I actually enjoy defense so I need that to be a part of it.

OS' article a few days ago about what should be in a first patch was on the money.

A few things I want to see in a first patch

                  1) Lower QB accuracy

                  2) Fewer instances of players in zone coverage getting fooled, giving too much cushion, or guessing wrong on receiver routes.

                  3) Improve pass rushing/make run blocking less consistently awesome. Allow the D-line to win some battles.

                  4) Fix the QB sim stats in franchise. The problem with some QB's having an unrealistically low comp % indeed affects how they develop throughout the course of franchise, and a good number of starting QB's see their ratings drop sharply relative to another portion of the QB's.

Re: Madden NFL 25 Impressions Thread

I like the game overall but I have a huge issue with what I would call a lack of touch passing. I threw 5 picks in a single game, 1 was my fault, the other 4 my receiver beat the defender off the ball and has 5 yards on him. I push up, tap the appropriate button to lob it out in front of him. The pass is a rocket more or less and the defender just reaches up and grabs it in front of him. It just seems impossible to lead him.

I saw this behavior over and over. I cannot seem to be able to "lay the ball in there" with any touch....like I could on Madden 13 or on NCAA 14. The passing game felt so precise....now it feels like I have less control.

I saw this in the demo to some degree but was holding out hope that the final game would be more polished and the passing would feel right again. Not so. It feels worse.

I can still lead on slants and out patterns and such....I just cannot throw it down the field with any kind of arc and lead a receiver at all.

Oh....and in my game all the refs, coaches and sideline players disappeared after the half. The camera kept cutting to the coach, but nobody was there, and when the refs needed to measure for a first down....no refs and no chains. The camera still aimed where they should be but nothing. Hopefully a one-time glitch.

Loved the first game I played. Chargers @ Broncos in the snow. Run blocking was a bit questionable. It started great then sank. I put it up to 60 but then it was ridiculous. Tried 55 and still too much. I put it to 51 so maybe that'll work. Put holding to 75 and got decent calls. After an uncalled defensive PI I put it up to 65 and despite it coming up at least one other time it wasn't called. I save a replay of a particularly spectacular little thing I'll put in the highlights thread. Everything felt right and the total control passing worked wonderfully.

Okoye still wasn't on the 49ers after the roster download so I created him. First week of franchise Justin Smith was on the trade block. He was traded to the Colts. For Vick Ballard. ... ... ... Yah I don't even... I don't know if there was anything else involved because it wasn't reported on the news and these menus are a mess so I can't find it if it's in there anywhere. Then the 49ers cut Kendall Hunter. There's a disturbing ammount of cut rookies 3 weeks in. Oh and the Chiefs cut Dexter McCluster. I'm simming with the Raiders and Bills doing the relocation thing. Won't start my actual one until I get a draft calss but this stuff was very much worth mentioning.

The menus are a mess in general. It's very difficult to find things.

I'm having fun with Madden 25, which is the only thing that really matters. Perfect game of football? First minute of playing you can answer that question, but it's the cool animations you get, the subtleness of the game, the ability to set an approaching defender up with a block by being patient which truly defines this game.

Annoying animations are there. Seeing a defender shoestring tackle and watching the runningback flail around is a little weird. Yeah it feels and looks at some points like a rehash of madden 13, but it's progress in the right direction and a much tighter gameplay experience. It's challenging on All-Pro to stop the computer, and pass coverage for the CPU is much tighter than in NCAA 14. Plus the ball is more live and heat seeker tackling is very immersive and it's fun to lay the BOOM.

If you are expecting perfection, then you definitely won't get that, but if you are looking for a football fix until the next-gen Madden then you will definitely get a solid game of football. This is a great precursor for the next gen edition and I'm excited to see what EA has in store for us come November.

Re: Madden NFL 25 Impressions Thread

Played one game in Chicago against the Bengals on All Pro default. Not gonna get into too much detail because it's obvious that a lot of the issues I saw on the filed will be able to fixed by adjusting the sliders. So....

                              The GOOD

CPU play calling was unpredictable and I was kept pretty much off balance until I took a 17 point lead and then the Bengals were forced to pass a lot and did.

I knocked Andy Dalton out of the game early in the 3rd quarter and he was 18-23. They brought in Josh Johnson and the difference between the two QBs was night and day. Dalton was the pure pocket passer and very difficult to stop, while JJ was quick to run out of the pocket and made several terrible throws on the run. He was 10-16.

                              THE BAD

The commentary is painfully unaware of what the situation is on the field. I was leading 45-20 late in the 4th and you would have thought it was a close game.

After the Dalton injury I never got an update from the sideline reporter or the booth. The sideline reporter IMO has always been a cheap way around for these guys to claim they've "upped" the presentation. It is and has always been poorly done and is completely useless.

My 78 rated LE, Corey Wootten against the Bengals 92 rated RT, Andre Smith had 8 sacks. 7 of them on Johnson because the CPU only scrambles to the right side and he was quick to leave the pocket.

                              THE UGLY

I had the Auto Subs set for RB at OUT 85 and IN 90. I had fatigue set at 50. Matt Forte never took a break and then disappeared with 8 minutes to go in the game and I never saw him again. He wasn't injured.

                              Cautiously optimistic....
