The game is definitely better, if you disregard the slider settings.
Last year I could almost not play NHL 12 anymore after testing NHL 13. The difference isn't as great this time around. NHL 14 is very similar to NHL 13 in every category except the hits and the fighting.
***I haven't recognized any incidental hits/collisions yet.
***The Anniversary Mode is a gimmick for sure.
Yet, I've already pre-ordered it.Comment

I have seen a couple of instances of incidental collisions so far. One that particularly stands out was Kane getting destroyed by Chara in Chicago's offensive zone and sliding into Toews, taking out his legs and sending them both into the boards. Was really awesome to see!Comment

I see you have a Devils avatar lol...yeah, I pre-ordered the week they announced Brodeur on the cover. The game is definitely better, if you disregard the slider settings.

Told my boy this year I'm taking him to his first hockey game. In Jersey of course.
It's not that there is a huge difference in the demo, as opposed to NHL13 I feel. But it's more the fact that I was very immersed in NHL13, and the demo for 14 is at least on par with 13. So why would I not buy it? It definitely hasn't regressed in my opinion. (Actually I will be getting 2 copies. One for my son. So on weekends I have off and can't make my 3 hour journey, we'll be on the ice boyyyyy!)NCAA BBALL10 PS3

One game was all it took. Just play in the net so had a great view of the AI working.
Still no celebrations with 5 players on the ice after a goal? Still D-man getting back to my face until coming up a bit to screen me on a shot? Still same cutscene, lack of presentation and lame while the graphics are simply horrible (putting a net cam that as a resolution of a Genesis when you watch a replay from it is simply spectacular!)...
NHL 13 was back on the shelf coming december last year. This year, won't even make it in the house. Not worth 70$, not even 25$. That game is simply not getting it done for me."Ice hockey is a form of disorderly conduct in which the score is kept." - Doug LarsonComment

I've played a few games and I've noticed that Rask at least seems to constantly fall on his butt to make even a simple save, I'm worried that could be a trend in NHL 14 where the goalies go down wayyyyy to much, anybody else notice this?Comment

We can both dream, but I don't think it's so far-fetched. I just don't think they've figured out how to make the most money out of the idea yet. I think it becomes more possible once games become entirely digital. This is why I hope that one day sports games move to a 24-month release period.
I owned NHL13 for 2 days so I basically skipped the game entirely.
Now playing NHL14, after basically not playing any EA hockey for 2 years, feels a lot more fresh.
A 24-month period would also give the developers a lot more time (time off as well), so that they stay fresh and don't feel as much stress and pressure in such a short turnaround period.
This will never happen because the current system still generates a tonne of money.
But I can dream, can't I?
I mean they already save on the cost of producing a disc and packaging. Not that they'll pass that on to the consumer, but there are ways to make a 24-month cycle work.Pine for the pork of the porcupineComment

If they could adapt a 2 year cycle, id even pay for a roster update at the beginning of the 2nd year. Something marginal of course, I would fear EA would be inclined to bend us over as usual. We can both dream, but I don't think it's so far-fetched. We all know they're capable of patching, and essentially could patch the game around the one year mark with minor changes/upgrades, while mostly developing a new game for the end of that 2nd year mark.
Would be a wonderful idea that most of us (I'd like to think) would welcome it. Even if it meant we had to spend $20-30 between years, and hope they justify the extra cash. Sure beats $60.
I think if it ever became a reality, we'd see some sort of pay to upgrade scheme as apposed to 1 game every 2 years. EA needs to get that money...

They all need the money. I imagine the respective leagues EA, Sony and 2K pay for licensing need that money just as bad. At least want it

I only played one game, but I must admit it feels just like last year. The AI seems just like last year (which is not good). It is great to see the d-man skating fixed, but the CPU is still so passive. As an offline player, nothing is pulling me into this game at all.Go Sabres!Comment

The Aggression slider is set a bit low so maybe that will help things, but you're right the Ai doesn't seem too much different. Hopefully this and Presentation are to priority for next gen debut. I would take a hit in overall depth for both of those to be top notch.

they gotta fix how easy it is to gain the offensive zone. it just kills the game. At any point you want, you can either skate the puck up or just make a long board pass and you have easy entry or a 3 on 2. its horrible.
Also, there is too much flow in this game. It needs whistles, stoppages. pucks in the crowd, offsides.
pucks need to be fought for.. this game the puck just stays on sticks way too long.
hopefully they are able to tune a ton more loose pucks. and are able have neutral zone battles. this game right now is just an arcade game for offline users.
i will say i like how they finally fixed the deflections, and they dont look scripted anymore.Comment

Re: NHL 14 Demo Available Now For 360, Later Today For PS3 - Post Your Impressions He
I got a game misconduct for interference last night. Saw the CPU get a misconduct for boarding. Other than that I have definitely seen more variety (charging, boarding, check from behind, interference, trip, delay of game so far), and at seemingly decent rates (though hard to tell from a 5 minute period). They still seem a little low but it looks like there may be some improvementI'm not playing the demo, so can anyone else tell me what the penalties are like in the game? Has EA Sports fixed the 2+ year long penalty problem, or do we rarely see penalties at all(and if we do,are they at least realistic? Instead of NHL13 where you'd get a penalty for skating like 5 feet from the opposing player)
Edit: They seem realistic for the most part, couple of head scratchers but then again there are plenty of those in the NHL anyways. Nothing like the phantom interference bumps that I have seen yetLast edited by dererstesoldat; 08-28-2013, 10:20 AM.Comment
