Any one play as a Championship or League One team?

With FIFA 14, I plan to take a lower tier team for a bigger challenge in terms of talent and transfer budget. I'll probably take QPR since I am most familiar with them but was also thinking of Colchester since I will be there in a few months and plan to see a match so it will be a good way to learn the players.

Does anyone play with a team in these leagues and, if so, which do you prefer? And, are there more real stadiums (if any) in one than the other?

    Thanks.

I support Brighton & Hove Albion in real life

In a game like FM they are fun to play with, brand new stadium, rich owner but not loads of transfer money so its not stupidly easy - decent team and just missed out on promotion last year

on fifa they have a pretty decent rated team, but obviously their stadium wont be there - they have ex man united keeper kuszsczak and a couple of good spanish players

as far as i can tell, you wont find ANY real-life championship/league one stadiums in the game. only time they did was when they had newcastle when they got relegated because theyve had st james' park for ages

QPR will be FAR too easy - Colchester will be a challenge

brighton is the best part of the uk too in terms of location, and they used to be financed by Fatboy Slim - if that doesnt sway you i dont know what will.....

I always do at least one career mode with Bristol City every year, no matter what league they're in.

Heh, I thought this was a koan or something, and had to go back and read the original post in order to make sense of it.

Now certainly there's the challenge of meeting your objectives or risk being sacked. The thing with the PC version though is you can reset team budgets to make it impossible to simply buy a championship. I play as fourth tier York City and am happily trying to work my way up the divisional food chain. But I cheated a bit and shut off the board's ability to sack me. I don't like realism of that sort. Plus these things should all be included as career mode setup options anyway; makes it more fun when you can customize everything to your liking.

For me though, and I usually play with Swindon Town every year, it's just not that diffcult. FIFA is easy to play so you eventually work your way up the ladder, buying cheap high potential players along the way, they develop, you get loads more money and it just gets easier and easier. It always ends up the same way for me.

To each their own, but I just don't find it that challenging.

The only way I play manager career mode anymore is with player lock on one player and using the Pro cam. Might help make the game tougher for you, plus it's really enjoyable in that the gameplay overall is much less frustrating. Your CPU teammates actually do things like make timely runs and defend properly.

This is the only way I play CM in FIFA. I support Arsenal in real life but even on Legendary there's not enough challenge and not much to work towards in my opinion. My favorite lower league side to use is Portsmouth. I move them into League 2 so I have to start from the very bottom. Like Matty said, it wasn't really much of a challenge for me either until I started playing on PC...on Legendary...with gameplay mods...with sliders. Now I actually have to work a little bit, lol.

If you use a strict board, play on legendary with sliders, and don't cheat by using sites like FIFAFanatic to find out player potential, the game can absolutely be challenging, especially with lower level clubs who have shoestring budgets. I've found that the lower your budget the better, it forces you to build your squad through scouting, then after a few seasons once your youth players begin to pan out, the well known high potential players in the beginning of the game have come into their own, upping their value significantly and making it much tougher to find "value," especially for a couple hundred thousand pounds. The biggest key for me is not cheating with those potential spoiling sites, they'll virtually ruin the game for you if you let them.

I stopped using premier League teams a couple of years ago. I used Newcastle in the coca cola championship, the year before they were promoted, and I've been using Middlesborough and I'm also partial to the Sheffields(I used to watch Wednesday and United in the Premier League when I was a kid). Wolverhampton, just being relegated a couple of years ago would be a decent choice also.

Re: Any one play as a Championship or League One team?

Always start with a lower team. Wolves will be a top choice for me this year as they have really fallen as of late. Also, Sheffield Wednesday, Yeovil Town, Cheltenham Town, and a few others are usually a top choice for me.

Starting lower and setting tough rules for your CM is the fun of the game. With a lower level team, I always look at loaning in younger players, selling the older players on my team, loaning or selling players that don't fit my style, and then looking at the free agents and setting up a youth system are key. I'm very excited to get started, just hope I have time to play.
                        Teams:

                        NFL - Packers & Browns
                        MLB - Brewers & Twins
NCAA Football - Wisconsin, LSU, Virginia Tech
                        Soccer - Arsenal, Wolverhampton
                        NHL - Wild

Someone, help me pick a Championship or League 1 side. I was driving myself crazy yesterday trying to choose.

Here are my "requirements" if you could call them that:

                            Championship:
                            - Decent looking kits
                            - Can not be a huge favorite for promotion
                            - Did not play in the Premier League for the last 4-5 years

                            League 1:
                            - Decent looking kits
                            - Must be a decent favorite for promotion
                            - Did not play in the Championship for the last 2 years

                            Any thoughts?

Edit: I think I might go with Brighton & Hove Albion. Fairly unique looking stadium for the league they're in, and they have a new manager, Óscar García Junyent. Who can bring a beautiful attacking style to the Seagulls. Hot damn.

I just started my first CM with Leyton Orient. I signed a few players on loan, blowing through my meager budget. I'm currently in the top 6 with a 3-1-1 record, and still alive in the Capital One Cup & J Paint.

I might do a financial takeover in I get into the Championship next season.
