Major Upsets
I have resisted getting this game so far because I felt that my dynasty was ruined every season last year when the top 5 teams would lose a game within the first 3 weeks so EA could show off their fancy new Studio Update feature. I know that the Studio Updates are still there, but I was just wondering if the upsets have been toned down this year? Poor Oregon couldn't get to PAC12 play before having 3 losses last year lol.The Valley of the Sun.Tags: None -
Re: Major Upsets
I've played a season mode and gotten through one year of my dynasty.
At some point during both seasons, so many top teams were upset that Mississippi State held the #1 spot in the nation.
Haven't yet seen an undefeated season and I've seen a total of probably 20+ FCS victories over FBS teams.
Didn't have NCAA13, but I'd venture to guess the upsets have not been toned down.
EDIT: Also, Oregon finished both of those seasons as an unranked team hovering around .500 despite being rated something like 95 OVR with 99 OFF.WE ARE PENN STATE

Re: Major Upsets
I'm only six weeks into Season 1, but so far Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon and Notre Dame are chugging along undefeated. Bama has pretty much destroyed everyone it's played.
Stanford has lost to Washington State and Washington. Georgia lost to Tennessee (and Clemson). Clemson lost to Syracuse. Florida State got destroyed by Maryland. Florida lost to Miami. LSU lost to Mississippi State.
Oh, and Louisville lost to FIU (of course, I'm FIU).Comment

Major Upsets
In my 3rd season, Ohio state has lost a total of 3 games in 3 years, Bama is at 5, Norte Dame around 5-6. The top teams are at the top with an upset or two from year to year. This has allowed Ole Miss to rise to the top and beat Bama in 2014, but in the rematch in 2015 Bama roasted the Rebels.

Re: Major Upsets
I haven't had an issue with upsets in '14. I did in '13 and I fixed the problem myself and if I have that issue in '14 (I'm in year 2019 now) I'll fix them the same way I did in '13. Here's what I did.
I only saved ranked teams. If a team isn't ranked I didn't feel the need to save them from an upset.
I didn't save anyone the first 3 weeks of the season.
I set up guidelines for acceptable upsets. If a ranked team was @ home had had a full letter grade advantage in their OVR grade, I'd save them if they were upset (IE. A+ vs. B+ would be saved, A+ vs. A- would not). If the ranked team was on the road then they had to have a full letter grade + 1/3 advantage (IE. A+ vs B would be saved, A+ vs. B+ would not).
I didn't save anyone if 2 ranked teams played each other.
I saved them like this:
I'd save the week after my game.
I then looked at all top 25 matchups to see who couldn't be upset.
If it was worthy I'd "sim" the game (the games were actually simmed during the week advance to this week so I'm not simming the game, but just revealing the results of the sim).
If a ranked team was upset I'd make note of the game.
When I found all teams that needed to be saved I'd exit the dynasty and reload (which was after my game, but before revealing any sim results).
For teams that needed to be saved I'd "play" the game, using the correct playbooks for both teams.
I'd supersim to the end.
The ranked team got 1 chance to be saved. If they win the supersim, then they were saved. If they lost the supersim (which rarely happened, but it did happen) then the underdog earned the upset and I would keep it.
The whole process wasn't nearly as complicated as it seems all written down, but I wanted to give full details in case anyone wanted to do the same. This was well worth the effort in '13 as it kept things much more realistic.Favorite Teams:

Re: Major Upsets
I'm in my 4th year of my dynasty. I have seen a few upsets and teams moving around but it happens in real life. I like when new teams rise to the top and old ones fall. After all it is a video game and is not real life.Relax, it's just a video game!Comment

Re: Major Upsets
As a fan of a mid-major program(San Jose State), I always thought of fans from major schools somewhat elitist because you act like aliens have landed or think this is a sign of the apocalypse when an FCS school beats an FBS team. Get off your high horse, upsets do happen. Remember last week?http://espn.go.com/college-football/...ull-23m-upsets I mean Mcneese St. put a drubbing on USF 53-21!!! Mcneese St. is a good FCS school but most people thought they wouldn't be able to hang no less take USF to the woodshed last week. Thinking the game is broken because major upsets happen, that's such b.s. and the only reason most people think an upset won't happen is because they think their school is vastly superior to the "cupcake" they're facing and that this is a tune-up game and it's almost big boy program sacrilege if the underdog wins the game. Consider the guys on the other side. Incessant trash-talking from the big boy program's fan base on how bad we'll beat you guys to the ground and what not, that's more than a slap to the face if you're playing for that "cupcake", that "cupcake's" fan base and there is nothing sweeter than watching fans from major schools have their mouths agape when the unthinkable happens. Nothing sweeter for a "cupcake" to get to witness the major school's sidelines expressions in complete silence while they celebrate a win which they snatched from the big favorite, which they wanted it more than the school from the major conference thinking they can just show up and magically they'll end up with the W at the end of the day. Nope.GO SAN JOSE STATE/MENLO COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!!NATTY 2013!!!Comment

Re: Major Upsets
I went to Missouri. In no way do I feel like we are superior to anybody ever. In fact I feel that most Mizzou fans have too low of a self esteem for the school. I'm not talking about a top FCS team beating South Florida. I'm talking about Alabama, Oregon and Ohio State losing in the same week multiple times. I absolutely LOATHE Alabama. And Ohio State for that matter. But when they are out of the picture in week 2 and Fresno State wins the national championship against Toledo it kind of takes away the fun of when the small schools DO beat the big ones. I love upsets. But when it occurs to the frequency that makes you roll your eyes each week, it can no longer be considered an upset and that takes away the thrill of beating the power teams. The Valley of the Sun.Comment

Re: Major Upsets
Never really paid any attention of upsets in my Dynasty, but just noticed two recently in Week 13 & 14 of the 2021 season. First was 10-0 Pittsburgh (you heard that right! ranked #2 behind me). They lost to 2-9 Wake Forrest 49-31. Second was a game between 3-9 unranked Missouri against #17 9-3 Alabama. Missouri won 31-28. Only other upset worth mentioning was week 5 when I (Georgia, before I was part of the Top 25) went against #1 South Carolina. I smacked them around (I've a feeling that game doomed South Carolina earlier today).Last edited by CrimsonPatriot_92; 09-07-2013, 09:31 PM.NFL: New England Patriots

These upsets do happen. They do. We all remember App State over Michigan. They happen. Nobody here is saying that every big time program will always beat the cupcake it plays. We're saying it doesn't happen as often as it happens in NCAA 14.
Find me a (1) single year where 15+ FCS teams beat FBS teams and I will personally mail you a cookie. That happens most seasons in my NCAA 14 dynasty. Nobody has said that upsets don't happen. They just happen too often in this video game.WE ARE PENN STATE
