    Steel Curtain Nation - M25

    STEEL CURTAIN NATION
I managed to save a file over my Titan's dynasty a few days ago. Prompting a fit of courses. That, though as led me here. Keeping up some of the threads here, I saw Gronk mention that someone should take up a Steelers franchise. When that didn't happen, so I figured why not.

This time around I will be using the 32-Team approach. I will also be downloading NCAA 14 draft classes from my personal dynasty mode. Advancing through this season, I will place be including college news throughout the appropriate weeks.

    Platform : PS3
Mode : Owner's Mode (One Team)
    Sliders : Blue Ninja's M25 Sliders
Quarter Length : Eight minute Preseason games / Fifteen minute Regular Season Games
    Accelerated Clock : 14 Seconds
Draft Class : Exported from NCAA 14

    TEAM HISTORY
The Pittsburgh Pirates, named after Pittsburgh's baseball team, were established in 1933. 1940 marked Pittsburgh's first season as the Steelers, not the Pirates, this name would carry on until the season of 1943, where the Steelers would combine with the Philadelphia Eagles; the following season Pittsburgh would once again combine with a team, this time with the Chicago Cardinals. The season of 1945 would bring about the return of the Steelers, a name that has held on since.

      STEELERS RIVALRIES
The Pittsburgh Steelers have three primary rivals, all within their division. They also have rivalries with other teams that arose from post-season battles in the past, most notably the New England Patriots, Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Titans and Dallas Cowboys. They also have an intrastate rivalry with the Philadelphia Eagles, but under the current scheduling the teams play each other only once every four years.

      DIVISION RIVALS

      CINCINNATI BENGALS
The Bengals–Steelers rivalry dates from the 1970 season, when the AFL-NFL merger was completed. In 1976, the Steelers kept their playoff hopes alive with a late-season 7–3 win in snowy Cincinnati. One of the most memorable games was the 2005 AFC Wildcard playoff game, in which the Steelers won a 31–17 come-from-behind victory. The Steelers and Bengals finished 2005 and 2006 with identical records (11–5 and 8–8 respectively), splitting both regular-season series, the Bengals winning the tiebreaker both years due to having a superior division record. The Steelers also are responsible for ending the Bengals' season in Cincinnati two years in a row, eliminating them from the playoffs in 2005 and taking them out of contention in 2006.
Current Streak - Bengals : One win.
The Steelers lead the all-time series, 52–32.

      BALTIMORE RAVENS
The Baltimore Ravens and the Steelers have a bitter divisional rivalry. Both teams handed the other their first losses at their current home fields. The Steelers won the inaugural game played at Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium in 1998; three years later the Ravens handed the Steelers their first-ever loss at Heinz Field. Later that season Pittsburgh won a divisional playoff game against Baltimore, who was the defending Super Bowl champion. During their NFL championship season in 2000, the Ravens defeated the Steelers in Pittsburgh season opener with the Steelers later exacting revenge in Baltimore. During the Steelers 2008 Championship run, they beat the Ravens three times, including a win in the AFC Championship game. The two teams complement each other by consistently fielding strong defenses in their division.
Current Streak - Steelers : One win.
The Steelers lead the all-time series, 16–10.

      CLEVELAND BROWNS
The Cleveland Browns and the Steelers have been divisional rivals since the two cities' teams began playing against each other in 1950. After posting a 9–31 record in first 40 games of the series between the two cities, the Steelers recently took over the all-time series lead for the first time ever (64–56); partly due to their dominance over the post-1999 Cleveland Browns franchise and won twelve straight before the Browns snapped their losing skid against them by beating them on December 10, 2009. Additionally, the Browns lost 16 straight years in Pittsburgh from 1970–1985 and posted an abysmal 5–24 record at Three Rivers Stadium overall.
Current Streak - Steelers : One win.
The Steelers lead the all-time series, 63–57.

                ROONEY'S OUT OF PITTSBURGH
The Rooney family has decided to sell their historic franchise. The new head of the franchise is reported to be from outside of the family, and even outside the circle of majority stock holders. Leon McKormik, a man who is well off in his own right, has been grouping stocks for the Steelers for awhile now; when the Rooney family decided it was time to step away from football and focus on other lines of entertainment and wealth, Mr. McKormik did not hesitate to jump the stocks. Still, with deep pocket come high expectations, and despite an anging roster, McKormik will be expected to put his new franchise back in the playoffs in a hurry.

While we do not currently have a photo of the Steelers owner, he is expected to answer question sometime before the first preseason game. Stay tuned...

Thanks much, Gronk! Soon as I saw the reply to Russia's poll I saw the potential in the aging team.

                      STEELERS SHAKE ROSTER
Steelers majority owner Leon McKormik comes out of hiding this week. Although not before a large scale shift of players, here is a recap of what went down this past week: the Steelers began the week by cutting running back Baron Batch and punter Brian Moorman, and bringing in and signing cornerback Nate Clements for a 3.80 million year. During Tuesday's practice rumors arose that the Steelers were talking with the Kansas City Chiefs for Allen Bailey. On Thursday morning the trade became official, Allen Bailey was brought into Pittsburgh in exchange for Plaxico Buress, Ziggy Hood, as well as a 2015 Fifth Round Pick. Friday afternoon saw the singings of wide recievers Randy Moss (for 1.96 million) and Brandon Lloyd (1.08). Over the weekend running back Michael Turner was brought in, after expressing joy in what they saw, the Steelers staff signed Turner to two million dollar year.

Our experts chime in with their analysis of last week's events: The Pittsburgh Steelers wasted no time in getting things done. With the exit of Mike Wallace over this offseason, Randy Moss and Brandon Lloyd have been acquired as a mean to fill that hole.

Running back Michael Turner is a workhorse, and every team without an established back (some team with established backs too) should have chased after him; the quick snag by the Steelers is sure to send teams into a chase for another back.

Despite his age, Nate Clements is still an elite cornerback and should complement the Steelers other aging corner Ike Taylor.

In Allen Bailey the Steelers saw a young end that could start right away. And because of that, they were willing to get rid of the Buress. Plaxico will do doubt thrive in the Chiefs' offense, and I see him becoming a strong second target for Alex Smith. In addition to that, the Chiefs received Ziggy Hood, a defensive end who isn't ready to start yet, but is a strong second string and should develop well. The Fifth Round Draft pick was just icing to the cake from the Steelers.

For the Steelers, Allen Bailey will be able to jump into the left tackle position from the get go, allowing Brett Keisel to shift back into the right end where he is definitely a stronger and more comfortable defender. This allows the Steelers to shift Cameron Heyward down into the second seat, allowing for a powerful rotation between the two.

Interesting trade/signings to say the least. Only thing is, you got rid of some old players only to add more old players. Steelers need to get younger.

I agree, though the signings are short term solutions. In theory the Steelers plastered a hole in the wall while waiting to get a new section for it. The trade was the only long term move.

                            OWNER SPEAKS AFTER GAME ONE
After the Steelers romping of the Giants, Leon McKormik finally comes out into the public.

                            But first...

The Steelers completely shut the Giants down in their preseason opener. Michael Tuner came into the game looking like a resurgent powerhouse, starting the game off with eighty-three yards on nine touches, including a thirty-nine yard Marshawn Lynch-esque run that began with three broken tackles at the line of scrimmage, and ending with another four broken tackles before being forced out of bounds; Tuner would leave the first quarter with forty-three yards coming after first contact, more than have of his yards. The remainder of the game was shared between the other backs, with Felix Jones leading the way with twenty-four attempts for one-hundred-and-thirty-five yards, including a touchdown.

The Steelers took an extremely run heavy approach this game, only throwing when they had to, potentially using the Giants to test out how the backs would line up in the depth chart. If anyone doubted it, they shouldn't anymore. If Turner can produce like this all preseason, there won't be a chance any of the other backs can take the starting role. Everything else is up for grabs.

The Defense was solid as well. In fact, in the first half, it was down right terrifying. In the closing minutes of the first quarter, Eli Manning was sacked by Larry Foote and had to leave due to a high ankle sprain. The next play the Giants would be called on a false start, which would cause Jason Worilds to get a safety the following play. Going into the half, the Giants had six rushing yards and negative twenty-eight passing yards. In fact, the Giants offense was averaging a negative yard per play. After the half, the Steelers age would show, but the defense would not break. In what had to have been the most impressive show of power: late in the third quarter, Al Woods would sack Nassib, causing a fumble, which was then picked up by Giants Tight End Bear Pascoe, who in turn would be laid out by Chris Carter, causing another fumble, with Troy Polamalu sealing the deal by diving on the ball. The line had extreme success, sacking the quarterback nine times this game. Larry Foote is off to a fantastic start with four tackles for a loss, two sacks, and a deflected pass.

The Giants couldn't start moving the football until mid-way through the third quarter where the Steelers age began showing, as they were unable to close the game as strongly as they started it.

Then the mysterious McKormik took to address the media, obviously satisfied with the showing of force today.

Q: You've been a highly successful businessman, and now you own an NFL franchise. What's the next step for you and this team?

M: I've had a lot of success and now I want to have fun and give back to these fans and provide them with a great experience every Sunday, simple as that.

Q: After today's game, do you have a response to everyone saying that the Steelers are becoming too old to compete?

M: It's a little soon for that. It's only the preseason, but today did show force. But it's a long season and age will no doubt play a role, we just need to prepare for it.

Q: That being said, what are your plans going into the future?

M: Obviously we will be getting younger where we can. But that isn't something that we'll able to do within a single season.

Q: Which position are you most worried about?

M: I wouldn't say I'm worried about any position, but we obviously will be keeping an eye on our Right Guard situation, as well as keeping a close eye on how our running backs turn out.

This is looking really sharp. Definitely following.
