Re: Madden Sales Down Significantly This Year
Yes, of course the general public wants a new console. No question. 3D TV is failing because its not a real useful upgrade. It's too gimmicky.Comment

Re: Madden Sales Down Significantly This Year
Not surprised. A few reasons for it...
1. The game isn't great. In many ways, particularly the defense, the game went backwards from 13 which itself was a buggy mess introducing IE and CCM.
2. Next gen is coming and people want a different experience after only playing current gen madden for several years now.
3. The exclusive license is still set to end after this year, people wanting it to end have more insentive to skip this year.
4. A lot of reviews have been scoring the game low. Gamespot gave it a six.
Personally, I love the timing. With the exclusive agreement set to expire, EA is settling and paying out $11 million to Robin Antonick and $27 million to gamers from the class action suit. The game already costs them $2 million to John Madden and $50 million to the NFL. Not to mention the Obannon, NCAA situation. Maybe, just maybe there is hope for new NFL video games in the future.

Re: Madden Sales Down Significantly This Year
It's not that bad...only real "bug" I've seen is bogus online disconnects due to "player grieving" what ever that is....and don't get me wrong, I've been a Madden ***** for going on ten years now and it's odd I find myself quasi defending the game but it's not that bad IMO. I play my buddy in community games with slider tweaks (All-Pro, 15 min. quarters with a burn clock to 11 seconds) and the net result is pretty damn close to real life stats.
The one real gripe I have is the game matching you up in Ultimate Team matches with teams that are much higher rank that you...e.g. my team has one or two guys with a ranking over 80 yet it pairs you with teams who have rosters full guys with 85+....makes it virtually impossible to compete.Comment

I think the power of the holidays will help out. Heck, our son and his roomie in colleg have Madden 25 and they are popular with lines outside their door, with people claiming, "next game." People will start going home and telling mom and dad, I want Madden.
I will be interesting to see what happens with the liscense.Comment

I doubt people holding out for next-gen is the main culprit for the sales drop. I think people are saying Madden is/looks the same as the previous year so why buy the new one.Last edited by ghettogeeksta; 09-06-2013, 02:38 PM.Comment

Agree with #2 and 4, but the article you put up states the higher metacritic score of 81 this year, so, not sure why you stated a lot of the reviews have been lower. You could alsos say a lot of the reviews have been higher, too.

Not sure why you would disagree with #3. It's no secret the exclusive is in its last year. Football fans that want variety do have more incentive to skip. This combined with another typical madden title might have kept $60 in a few gamers pockets.
One other factor. GTA V. If forced to choose, I think a lot of gamers are passing on Madden 25 for that title.Comment

The article did score it 81. IGN did give it an 8.5. However, OS gave it 7.5, again Gamespot gave it a 6 and Kotaku simply asks "Should you play this game?" with NO in a huge red square. http://kotaku.com/madden-nfl-25-the-...iew-1207512756

Re: Madden Sales Down Significantly This Year
It's amazing how people continuously make excuses for this game. I just don't understand it. There is always some reason OTHER than the quality that people WANT to believe leads to things like this. The fact is Madden is a cultural icon. Whether the new systems are coming out or not should not matter. People don't want to wait 4 months for that. If Madden was a great game, they would still sell just as many, if not more copies, REGARDLESS of whether next gen was coming out or not.
Just watch - the NBA 2k sales will probably still be very good. Not as many people are upgrading to the new consoles yet.
Very few of the guys on my full friends list are getting a next gen system this year. However, a lot of them are gone now from Madden. They gave up on it and simply don't buy it anymore because it "sucked" (according to them). Tiburon is reaping what they sew here. You can only poop in a box for so long before people start to lose interest and find it elsewhere.Comment

Could be GTA. Asked my son, he said he doesn't want it. We'll see if others pick it up in his dorm and he comes crawling back.Comment
