Can't say I'm surprised. Madden used to be one of the most well produced games out there and now it's less then stellar. We all remember the Golden age of Madden during the 2004-2008 Period. The games back then were seriously great. Then Madden just started to slowly regress and now it has come down to this.

Re: Madden Sales Down Significantly This Year
I hate this company with a passion. I hate everything about them. The simple fact they locked up an exclusive license on football games, and then produced such buggy products, just has me steamed. The game play of their football product, while fun at times, simply has not come far enough in my opinion. I have a hard time believing that in this same 10 years, another company wouldn't have made a much more superior product. What scares me is that Tiburon, the same development company, is taking this game into the new generation.
How many more years of this piss-poor development cycle do we have to go through?Comment

Madden hasn't changed in years. Connected careers was stupid and confusing and barely worked. That did me in.Comment

Re: Madden Sales Down Significantly This Year
I think Connected Careers were made with the next generation in mind. I'd rather them break it out and work out bugs now, then to do a complete face lift for the next gen. Or they completely scrap it, and bring it back in 6 years as a new feature.
I will say this, Madden 10 was the last good game they produced, ironically made by the old dev team. Since then EA has been listening to this sim gamer bunch and everything on field has suffered. Remember when physics was supposed to be the savior of this franchise? If they only had it in, the game would be instantly better than 2K and FIFA. It wasn't. Sad to think with everything that crowd wanted in, Madden 25 is nothing compared to Madden 10. I think the crowd they constanly pander to now, is the same crowd destroying it. Just get back to making a fun game. I don't care abou the amount of plays you get in a game compared to real life. I don't care about how the pace mirrors real life.Comment

Commenting on CC I really hate the mode. Franchise mode was so much better executed then this whole Connected Careers Idea. Maybe chalk it up to my own personal preference but I don't think Connected Careers was the right direction in the series.

Re: Madden Sales Down Significantly This Year
You have to wonder if the NFL is eyeing this impending GTA release and saying, hmmm, maybe we can up the ante here.
As much as I'd like to see 2K and TTWO back in the NFL game, I'd much prefer a non-exclusive license. That way we can maybe see another golden age like in 2005, instead of this dark age we are in now.Comment

Re: Madden Sales Down Significantly This Year
I really think a Non Exclusive License will happen within the next 5 years. The NFL at the end of the day is all about making a profit. If this trend continues for Madden I think they will open it up for other companies to take a shot. I would love to see a Football game attempted by SECA. They've done wonders with baseball and their basketball series wasn't terrible. Would also enjoy seeing 2K enter the fold again. The more competition the better IMO. Madden would definitely step up their game if there were more people in the market.
At the end of the day we want a great football game. One that does mostly everything right. I believe Madden could take that step if they really wanted to. They have all the resources available to them, they just need to execute properly.

All I know is a lot of money is going to be headed TTWO's way very shortly, and I mean a lot, as much as we've ever seen in the history of gaming. The NFL is likely aware of this, and are probably licking their chops. What it all leads to remains to be seen, but it wouldn't surprise me at all to see the landscape change in the next few years.Comment

Re: Madden Sales Down Significantly This Year
Count me among the many thousands who are sitting on the sidelines until next-gen Madden debuts.
I told myself I was "Done!" with this generation of football, but I buckled under the summer heat of the gridiron and bought NCAA'14 to scratch my football itch.
Turns-out NCAA'14 is a pretty good game of football; so unless I see something amazing in the next month I'll be canceling my pre-order for Madden & the PS4 (yelp, I pre-ordered a whole system for -one- game...come get me, America).

Re: Madden Sales Down Significantly This Year
The sad reality is ...everyone who is holding out for a the 'next gen' Madden football will most likely be unpleasantly surprised when their expectations of a richer, more dynamic, smarter playing, deeper thinking football simulation with a much more detailed physics engine is just the same game with only higher resolution textures and more close up cut screens.
Its just alot easier for EA to create the visual separation without really diving under the hood and harnessing the extra power to build a smarter, more realistic game play engine
we'll see...right?Comment

and of course Mestevo tags along..lol.
look, with BackBreaker there were little things that most didn't even notice that made it realistic (especially compared to Madden), from having to focus on a receiver if you wanted to be more accurate...to also having to focus as a receiver, to be able to hold on to a ball if you were collided with. It wasn't easy pulling these moves off, and it shouldn't be.
looking the coverage away as a QB, or just going through your progressions.
for their very first football game, let alone their very first videogame...imo they did a pretty damn good job....especially compared to a football series that is in its 25th edition.
the main things that stood out about BackBreaker that weren't not realistic, stamina and no left handed QBs.
and before some think I'm just hating on Madden or whatever, I actually like what they have done since Madden 12 (but my expectations were pretty low to start with)...sure there are things that still frustrate me about the game, but I'm having fun playing online like 4-5 times a night... (with most people quitting by halftime..lol)Last edited by bkrich83; 09-08-2013, 08:11 PM.Comment
