All players are edited, so there's a drop in overall ratings for every player in the game. I'll give you a couple of examples of what I look to do:

Lowering speed and accel ratings prevents the CPU from always reaching passes, meaning more turnovers, less shots on goal AND, as an added bonus, lower CPU pass completion percentages.

Also, some ratings are much worse than others for tilting the gameplay balance in the CPU's favor: vision and reaction for example. Lower those and the CPU cannot connect with all those seeing-eye crosses and headers, or react with the ability of a psychic-ninja. Neither of those ratings affect User player control and ability, they only affect CPU player behavior.

I've been thinking trying my hand at DB editing for 14, starting with changing speed and accel for all players to slow the game down. I thought of multiplying the speed and accel values of all players by a factor sufficient to achieve the pace I'm looking for. Do you do that or something similar for your edits?

Possible and easy to do because you use Excel to edit the database. I know two of the guys at soccergaming who edit in the manner you're describing. What I do is different. I take one value and spread the ratings out from 1-99, or 1-79, or 60-99 (all depending on the particular rating), with the majority of ratings in the bottom range. Basically I'm doing the opposite of how EA utilizes ratings. They essentially only use about a 50-95 scale for all ratings, with most ratings in the top range.

EDIT - I just checked: in the FIFA 14 demo, the average speed rating is 72. In my db the average speed rating is 14.

I don't want to hog the impressions thread but I just have to mention this: Speed and accel ratings in particular are a good example of why FIFA requires editing in order to create a truly sim football experience. EA assigns high speed and accel ratings to players on the top tier teams. Likewise they assign low speed and accel ratings to players on the low tier teams. This isn't close to realistic obviously. Every league should be equally full of players who run fast or slowly, and who accel quickly or slowly. It's the skill ratings like ball control, finishing and tackling that should differentiate top tier players from lower tier players. That's one of the issues you have to find a resolution to if you decide to edit ratings.

Yeah probably the wrong thread but really interesting stuff, you should start a thread about how you edit and mod tools available.

I'm interested in how the game could play with the right tweaks. Some games give you just a good enough foundation to tweak to near perfection. From what I've played so far of the 14 demo, I think the game definitely could use some tweaks.

You're definitely listening to the right guy. Yeats and I have had multiple pms convos regarding the edits. His theories have been put to good use and made FIFA 13 playable.

On the next post (to avoid the bottom of thread) I'll show you gameplay videos of what editing the product.ini and DB will do for the game. Most recently, AP21 has sent me a beta of what he's done for FIFA 13 - and it's even better imho.

So if you need something to hold you over, check out the next post.

Usually FIFA is pretty good at giving fast players throughout all the leagues good speed ratings.

I agree on the point of vision though. It seems better this year I have to say.

I just installed the default FIFA 13 and did an arbitrary check of speed and accel ratings of the top 4 STs on Arsenal, EPL compared to the top 4 STs on Barnsley, Champ League. It's like this throughout the game:

                  Arsenal
                  87 88
                  96 97
                  87 89
                  89 89

                  Barnsley
                  68 75
                  76 80
                  79 78
                  70 75

The first player I checked on Bournemouth League One (next league down from Barnsley) was rated 59 56. That's when I quit checking.

That doesn't mean anything really - Barnsley and Bournemouth might just have slower players. Look at Zavon Hines (Bradford) for instance, he was in League 2 with pace in the 90s.

There are plenty of fast players in the lower leagues - a better test would be to go into a new career mode and search by the top speed attribute, filtering by league.

You can't make a generalisation when you have such a small sample size.

the db edits I've stuck to the most are the gameplayzer edits. I've enjoyed the way it plays. The demo version seems pretty good too.

Okay, I did what you said; I searched for players with movement ratings (speed and accel) 80 and over:

                        EPL - 66 players
                        Npower Champ - 18 players
                        Npower One - 2 players

                        So that's that.

After playing the console version I thought about trying the demo for PC since it plays better, which are currently the best mods, edits and sliders for it? I tried reading this topic but I got lost with the speed conversation.

right now I've only seen 2 gameplay mods for the demo. The gameplayzer db and AP's immersion gameplay. Personally, I prefer the gameplayzer. Used it for 13. Moddingway has a patch with a bunch of teams added to the demo too.

Yesterday I played about 6 more games and I continue to be satisfied with what I've seen thus far.
It's worth mentioning that this demo is the first time I played at length with Tactical Defending and I was very satisfied with the balance of tackles. One of my big issues with '13 was that it was near impossible to dispossess the AI with any consistency. I'll have to go back and play '13 with TD to see if perhaps it was just me.

Between Tuesday and yesterday I've only been able to score about 3 goals, but that's because I play slow, controlled build-up and the demo is too damned short.

I'm definitely getting, I'm just not sure when. I have a X1 pre-ordered so considering they're both the same price I'll be getting the NG version. I just don't know if I'll be able to wait that long.
