Week 6 - Raiders vs JETS!

Ray Lewis must've heard my "old man" comments and "stay retired".. this proved to be a much tougher matchup than even I expected.

Both teams at .500 (2-2) facing each other this week I was certain we were going to come fighting off our high over our "upset" victory against the Golden Boy's Patriots last week.. but.. I suppose the flight cross-country put our fire out.

It's always tough to play in the black hole but this week was specially rough as not only did I struggle to get any kind of rushing attack going as Ray Lewis played like a maniac out there but I lost the "General" of my own Defense MLB D. Harris to a broken collarbone

The injuries keep coming as my team struggled mightily against these Raiders

Week 6 - Bengals vs JETS

Good News: QB Geno Smith came off the injured list

Bad News: He's rusty as hell and losing my Defensive General MLB David Harris absolutely made my defense atrocious!

i have never received such an immense butt whooping before.. the Bengals literally ran and gashed their way to almost 600 yds of offense most of it on the ground absolutely abusing my missing starting MLB D. Harris

if this is a portent of things to come.. this will be an incredibly painful next 7 weeks as his broken collarbone heals

on offense.. Geno Smith appeared so rusty I had an urge to bench him and play Greg McElroy once again.. but really, my entire team was just out of sync. Even Read Option plays was snuffed out in the backfield.. and it felt like the Bengals had far more players than us on both offense and defense throughout the game

this hurts.. this loss hurts because as a coach, I simply felt powerless to do anything. Schemes I tried did not work. Plays I called exploded and it seems Cincinnati just did whatever they wanted out there.

Re: Fly JETS FLY!! - Coach Mode - Madden 25

Week 7 - Dolphins vs JETS - Rivalry Game!

After suffering two of the worst beatings as a coach I've ever had to endure. Some changes were needed for my team. First and foremost, in trying to jumpstart my offense.. I am starting Rookie RB Clayton Mills ahead of the proven bruiser back himself Chris Ivory. I've also started Backup OLB Quinton Coples as my starting ROLB sensing that I am lacking pressure on the QB. Coples is a personal pet favorite of mine. His size is that of a Defensive Lineman and he has amazing attributes as a pass rusher. Perhaps in the offseason I'll permanently move him to the line but for now, I need him in Adonys Adams' spot as my Linebacking core is badly depleted.

This game started off the same as my previous two weeks have.. sluggish offense. Geno Smith looked rusty. But then, it seems my team remembered they were playing at home and kicked it up a few notches!

They played feverishly on Defense and it all began with a sacked forced fumble which OLB Q. Coples recovered and ran in for the TD.

That Defensive score sparked my team and they simply clamped down on the Dolphins which raced to a 7-3 lead. After that, it was a simple matter of run-and-grind which my team is more than capable of with my Power RB's.

The only downside is that yet again.. Geno Smith got injured running a Read Option play.

I think it's time to say that "experiment" is over and it's time to look for a new playbook rather than Washington's Option plays..

all in all, a feelgood game for my team heading into the bye week!

Week 9 - Redskins vs JETS

What a difference a week makes! WHAT A DIFFERENCE CHANGING SCHEMES AND PLAYBOOKS MAKE!!

one cannot express the nerves I had entering this game against the highly touted Redskins led by RG3. it's not so much nerves about how my team will perform but rather how my team will perform utilizing a whole new scheme and playbook..

did i prepare them enough? is my own preparation sufficient?

one thing was clear.. the whole Read Option experiment is no longer viable. Sure enough, Geno Smith has the raw physical talent to effectively run such an offense but regardless of how beautiful and mesmerizing Read Option would be on succesful plays.. the undeniable fact is that THE QB WILL BE HIT!

Geno Smith's stints on the injury report and throughout the season is proof positive that no matter how tough a QB is.. the reason the Option never really flourished in the NFL is because they are such a valuable commodity that nobody wants to risk them getting bruised and hurt

so I switched to a more traditional offense.. utilizing a power running scheme with play-action is a time-tested formula.. but what my team executed out there against the Redskins made me a happy kissing fool!

who knew that the hours upon hours of practice we've been doing has honed my receivers and QB into a pretty effective vertical attack?! Geno Smith actually threw the ball and threw it with conviction to receivers who were more than glad to catch and run with it!

...and what do you know? when you can effectively move the ball by passing, it open up your running game even more!

this game has given me a much needed confidence boost as i know now that my training and scheming and regimen as a coach has paid dividends and we can matter-of-factly play some good football out there!

i do not know what the future holds but i know this.. my team can play! MY TEAM CAN PLAY BALL!!

Week 10 - Eagles vs JETS
              my team is young..

QB Geno Smith is coming off his rookie campaign. I have a bunch of rookie starters on my team. I understand this. We are a young squad..

this inexperience, if you will.. is reflected by our inconsistency when it comes to games

i thought we had it figured out.. we looked good. felt good. did good. but yet again, it seems the only streak we can so far put together is a losing one

i was hoping we'd put our very first ever back to back win scenario this season but it was not meant to be. The Eagles led by last year's Coach of the Year Chip Kelly and USC QB Matt Barkley was simply too much for my squad to overcome

sadly.. that was not half the story.. the truth of the matter is we lost this because once again we got physically outplayed by a team who we should have, in my opinion, soundly beaten!

but we are a young squad.. i can only hope we start maturing before this season is lost entirely

Week 11 - Bills vs JETS

Back when I first began this franchise.. I described myself as a coach. Oldschool. Preferred style is old fashioned smashmouth football..

back in the past draft, I drafted a rookie RB in the 2nd round that I scouted as a pure bruiser. a Power Back in the truest sense of the word.. even if he only had 77 SPD.

I knew what this meant.. he won't breakaway from defenders. he will more often than not get caught.. but what I did not realize.. is that he has heart.

watch this. watch my rookie RB Clayton Mills drag 4-5 Buffalo Defenders on the way to the endzone!

that, my friends, is called HEART! It is DESIRE! That is something that no known metric or measurement can properly quantify.. because that is simply HEART! As usual.. Clayton Mills' run sparked a fire in my team that the Bills could not withstand.

And that wasn't his only highlight oh no siree! Did I mention that Mills is NASTY?! He's just plain NASTY! People better get out of his way he's just slapping people around!! ...literally

Players like Clayton Mills will always have a place in the NFL.. and more importantly, can and will always play for me.

UP NEXT: Great.. the Golden Boy and the AFC East-leading Patriots on Thanksgiving Day. I'm pretty sure this will be a tough fight. Not only because it's a blood rivalry game but also because they will most assuredly look for payback for their loss earlier this season.

Re: Fly JETS FLY!! - Coach Mode - Madden 25

I recommend getting Nick Obregon in the draft (i just had this draft) he is a 89 overall!! and thats after having an injury midway through the year.. Eli Watson is and 84 or 85 I think he would be higher though if Obregon didnt get injured he was getting hammered after that and was labelled Eli Duckfeet Watson his mobility is a setback but has a really big arm

Great story so far actually made me create an account just to post lol I havent tried the coach mode yet how exactly does it work? do you still call the plays in the normal format?

Miles Ali is an 82 and has high jumping catch and spec catch solid in all other areas aswell (was actually drafted by the jets)

Jaquin Murphy 76-79 is pretty much a kick/punt returner though still not a bad overall

and Skylar Brooks is also an 82(i wish i got him im a big fan of receiving tightends

thanks for the compliment bro and welcome to OS!!

truth be told, if i had my way i would pick Obre with my 1st rounder considering i need a foundation OL DESPERATELY

but he's going to be gone quick i doubt i would even have a chance to get him unless i trade up somehow

i think so far, projections at this point in the season has the QB going 1st overall.. we'll see how combines go and further projections but yes.. i need a lineman bad

a OL or DT is my primary focus right now as i need to solidify my teams in the trenches

edit: and yes coach mode works exactly like that.. i use conventional play calling/ask madden so it gives me 3 plays, i choose 1 and watch them go at it! i still have to do the FG's, punts, kickoffs, etc.. but everything else is played by the players

Week 12 - Patriots vs JETS

Who is afraid of "The Golden Boy" Tom Brady? not us
Who is afraid of the big bad new england patriots? Not us
Who is afraid of "Gronk"? Not Us
Who is afraid of Gillette Stadium on the road? NOT US!!

if it sounds like I am excited.. it is because, I AM! seldom does rivalry games live up to the hype much less for the so-called "rivals" to actually play like rivals.. but this? this game lived up to everything sending out shockwaves throughout the league with the physicality and brutality which played out

the very first play of the game was a portent of things to come.. Tom Brady hit Maurice Jones-Drew on a perfect HB Angle which he got smashed in the middle forcing the fumble! Although the Patriots Defense held us to a FG and on the very next drive, MJD took it 70+yds for the TD redeeming himself -- it was a sign of how this game was going to be played.

No boys allowed! Only men would take the field this Sunday.

And no bigger man was there than the Patriots' foundation on defense Vince Wilfork. He was absolutely dominant and try as I could, my RB's found no room to run at all literally grinding out the entire game at around 2ypc. I think the longest run they had was about 5 yds -- Vince was that dominant.

But I kept running.. kept playing smashfouth football and thankfully, Geno Smith was more than up to the task of facing Tom Brady. He played magnificently and his growth has been amazing to behold! He had help.. WR J. Kerley and TE Kellen Winslow who played with a chip on his shoulder hearing about GRONK all week long was fantastic out there. But in the end.. this came down to 1 key possession.

The 3rd qtr was ending and the grind of the game finally got to Wilfork where he got injured as the 4th qtr began. That helped my decision to go for it twice on a drive around midfield on 4th and 1 & 4th and inches. That was the key possession of the game.. keeping the drive alive and eating up the clock.

I thought I coached the game to PERFECTION. I ate up the clock burning all 3 of the Patriots' timeouts as the 2 minute warning hit and kicking a FG to go up 8 points.

You'd think 2 minutes, no timeouts left, down by 8.. that it would be enough to secure a comfortable win. Oh not so. Not against the Golden Boy. Not in his turf. Tom Brady methodically marched downfield 80 yds leading NE to a touchdown drive but thankfully my defense stopped their 2pt conversion.

this is a game for the ages.. definitely one to savor. It was bloody. It was brutal. IT WAS OLDSCHOOL AND I LOVED IT!!

UP NEXT: Things are looking better for my JETS team. We may only be 1 game above .500 but honestly speaking .. it feels like a whole new team. Ever since I decided to stop with the Read Option offense and its dink and dunk style opting for a more traditional attack which opened up a vertical offense I never dreamt I had .. things simply feel better for my squad. For the first time this season we have won 2 games in a row and after staring down Tom "Golden Boy" Brady at Gillette Stadium.. things keep looking better as my defensive General returns MLB David Harris who has been injured for the past 8 weeks!! Week 13: Chiefs vs JETS

Hangover: def; A letdown, as after a period of excitement.

..at least, that is how this game felt like. From the start, Coach Andy Reid's team was simply playing at a faster speed than us. They went ahead to a 10 point lead and frankly, I was wondering if my team was suffering from a hangover effect after last week's epic victory over the Patriots.

throw in the fact that the leader of my defense, MLB David Harris is back makes me wonder what was going on out there..

eventually.. things settled down. My team as usual grinded it out and my Defense which has been the strong point of my team all season long re-asserted themselves once again taking the ball away 3 times from the Chiefs to come away with an "ugly" W.

That's right.. My JETS. Injury plagued all year long missing key players for stretches throughout the season is actually atop the NFL in Takeaways and Turnover Differential!

They are a direct reflection of me as a coach. Low risk. Grind it out. Protect the football and play solid defense. Most importantly.. HIT HARD and TAKE THE BALL AWAY!!

I couldn't be prouder of this defense and of this team! I just wish my 2nd overall pick Rookie ROLB Adonys Adams played like the force I know he could be. Sadly, being injured for 9 weeks has taken too much time out of developing him and in-game reps. He is simply not a force right now but I know in time.. he will be the defensive menace I am dreaming of!

                          BREAKING NEWS!

the week of our preparation for facing the San Diego Chargers, several noteworthy players wanted to rework their contracts.

CB Kyle Wilson -- one of the players who have been a key contributor in the JETS' League Leading Turnover Differential wanted to rework his contract

Sadly.. the terms he wanted crushed my heart.

there is absolutely no way i can justify paying him that kind of money! not with CB1 Antonio Cromartie locked up and up-and-comer CB Dee Miliner who is already starting 2nd on my depth chart..

it pains me to know that I won't be able to keep Kyle Wilson at season's end but i know whichever team signs him will have a great ball hawk in their secondary

WR Jeremy Kerley has been an absolute find! He is currently 3rd on my WR depth chart and is my Slot receiver but he is a BALLER! His style reminds me a lot of Wayne Chrebet or Wes Welker. They're undersized but elusive and can catch the ball in the middle. He is quite frankly, one of my favorite players as well as one of the favorite targets of Geno Smith. Well-deserved contract and eventually may even be my WR1 or WR2

David Harris -- you broke my heart you broke my heart. The General of my Defense asked for a $14 mil contract. I offered $16 and he still turned it down! Lord only knows what his agent wants but he will be sorely missed. He was a constant for my defense in the middle and even if not the most physically gifted MLB.. he was in the middle of pretty much every play as sure a tackler as there is in the game.

This one hurt.. this one most definitely hurt.

Week 14 - Chargers vs JETS

The final score will show that the JETS won by 3 points in overtime. What it will not show or tell is exactly how that happened.. a surrealistic sequence of events that has left me as a coach completely emotionally drained.

I have gone from the peaks of euphoria to the depths of despair back to euphoric heights in back to back to back plays.

There are moments.. not just in football, or sports, but in life that I like to call "Hollywood moments" or "movie moments". Moments or events that are so far-fetched, so unbelievable that it can only happen in movies. That is exactly how this game ended.

Let me describe in detail.. the events that wrapped up one of the craziest games i have ever been a part of.. let me set the scenario. It was Overtime.. the Chargers was stopped midfield and was forced to punt. My team had the ball around the 40 yd line.. when I call a slant play to my rookie WR G. Castro. YES. The same "all-world speed" WR that was part of last year's incredible Draft Storyline. The same WR that couldn't catch they said. This same WR I have spent all season long developing hands and catching and route running trying to improve his glaring weakness.
                            • WR Castro caught the ball and sprinted away from everyone for 48 yds down the field setting us up for perfect FG range to win the game (YES!!! if I could I would've ran the length of the field with him)
                            • I call a run play.. RB Chris Ivory fumbles the ball which the Chargers recover (NO!!! I was cussing up a storm right now)
                            • Chargers call a run play.. FUMBLE! Recovered by the JETS! (OH MY GOD!! Did this really happen? YES!)

at this point I call a FG and end the game.. one of the craziest games and honestly speaking.. one of the most frustrating games I have coached in. Why? Because the Chargers did everything right --- except win. It got to the point that I was confounded on how San Diego seemingly called the perfect play for whatever I called on defense. I'd call a blitz, they'd call a HB Slip Screen. I'd call a zone and they'd go right down the middle for another big gain. Plus Antonio Gates is always a tough matchup.

all in all I feel fortunate to come away with this W.. it was most definitely earned by my JETS team!

Week 15 - JETS vs Bills

If one were to tell you that the final score was 33-10 with one team gaining 161 rushing yds, 338 passing yds and over 600 total offensive yds. One would assume that the team that won decisively is the one that performed well that day.

That would be logical. That would be the right assumption.. but when it comes to my team. It seems logic goes out the window. Specially not the way this game began..

When I faced the Bills earlier this season, their primary RB CJ Spiller was out. This game.. he returned and he returned with a vengeance. His first rush went for 45 yds down the field. EJ Manuel is as mobile a QB as I have ever had to contain and by the time 3 minutes had gone by.. CJ Spiller had 60yds rushing and the Bills had an opening TD drive.

It wasn't much more good after that. My team struggled moving the ball as always it seems and the Bills to their credit displayed an offense that was to put it mildly -- unstoppable.

So I did what I do as a coach. Went in and dug into my principles. RUN THE BALL. Shorten the game. Try to slow down what felt like a crushing wave in Buffalo.

It worked.. to a degree. It was 10-0 after 1 qtr of play. 10-3 entering the 2 minute warning where the Bills had the ball and was driving down for what seemed yet another Touchdown. This is where the game changed entirely..

This past draft.. LB's Adonys Adams and Jalen Shaw were the most celebrated of all Storyline prospects. I chose ROLB Adonys Adams 2nd overall but he got injured early in the season and missed a lot of gametime and reps. To say he is a bust right now is too early to say but he has had ZERO SACKS throughout the season. But in this game.. he made his presence felt and this is what happened.

He rushed, as usual from his outside LB spot.. Bills QB EJ Manuel tried to juke him, missed and Adonys unloaded!! It wasn't a sack -- it was better. A FORCED FUMBLE by my rookie LB!! MLB David Harris picked it up and took it to the house for a TD tying the game up 10-10 with a minute and a half remaining before halftime!

on the very next possession.. Bills handed it off to Peyton Hillis. Yes, the Power Back Hillis himself swung to the left where Adonys Adams unloaded on him again FORCING YET ANOTHER FUMBLE! This time Antonio Cromartie picked it up and again took it to the house giving us a 17-10 lead right before halftime.

ADONYS ADAMS -- WELCOME TO THE NFL!!

After that.. the Bills simply couldn't recover. CJ Spiller got injured during the 2nd qtr and the only downside to this game was that my own starting HB Clayton "Power" Mills broke his jaw (ouch!) and was taken out of the game as well.

UP NEXT: I am actually looking forward to this game. For the first time this season -- Heralded Storyline LB's and Best Friends Adonys Adams and Jalen Shaw will be playing against each other. Curious how each performs out there. I'm still expecting big things from Adonys.. I simply have to develop him as his pass-rushing right now is non-existent having gotten no sacks whatsoever.

Week 16 - JETS vs Dolphins

My defense is for real. We may not be the flashiest or most dominating defense in the league by far.. but my players are HUNGRY! We already lead the league in turnover differential and this is huge for my JETS because the fact of the matter is this: I am the type of coach utilizing a power running - play action scheme and we simply do not turn the ball over.

At this current point in the season we are on a NFL record setting pace of only 9 total giveaways whereas the record is at 10 held by the 2010 New England Patriots and the 2011 San Francisco 49ers.

My style is a perfect fit for this turnover-hungry defense I have and although QB Geno Smith has played remarkably well in this his sophomore year.. the truth is I do not rely on him.

Run the ball. Protect the football. Play Solid Defense.

You will win in the NFL no matter what era you play in!

My only wish is that my 2nd overall pick ROLB Adonys Adams somehow realizes his potential and plays up to it but sadly this season has been, as painful for me to admit, a waste .. 27 Tackles this season. ZERO SACKS.

But his presence during games is certainly felt.. he almost always hurries the QB and rushes tirelessly.. he may not get there but his presence is certainly felt. Maybe I need to work on his Pursuit during practices more I do not know.. but I know he can be the terror I dreamt he would be when I drafted him.

Who would've thought? Even without Hall-of-Famer MLB Ray Lewis that the Ravens are on the verge of bidding for a PERFECT SEASON?! and oh.. after a horribly painful start.. don't sleep on those JETS from NYC!!! YES BABY!!! THE JETS ARE PLAYOFF BOUND!!!

it has been a long, hard and at times painful season.. but what makes this sweet is the fact that we overcame so much adversity. From all the injuries we have suffered to the games where we were beaten up soundly. To my abandoning and ditching the Read Option playbook where I literally felt as I was giving up on my team and my season with that act.. but yet, that is what started this turnaround.

I honestly cannot be prouder of my team.. Adversity builds Character and this team takes right after my own heart! FLY JETS FLY!!!!
