Re: Tennessee Titans Homepage

Fitzpatrick Shines Titans Win 37-3

The Titans headed to Pittsburg for opening week to face off against Big Ben and the Steelers. Newly signed QB Ryan Fitzpatrick would win the starting job in the preseason and it proved to be a smart decision. The Titans would win the toss and defer to the second half giving Pittsburg the ball first. The defense would play amazing with a great 3 and out and force the Steelers to punt. Fitzpatrick and Chris Johnson would do work against the Steelers defense posting a 70 yard drive ending with a touchdown catch to TE Taylor Thompson. The Steelers would then get the ball back and be forced with another quick 3 and out. On second and short Fitzpatrick would hit a wide open Delanie Walker who would then take it to the end zone on a 62 yard TD catch putting the Titans up 14-0.

Disaster would then strike on the next drive as newly acquired FA Thomas Howard would nail Big Ben on a blitz and he would go down and would not return for the rest of the game. It's been reported he has two broken ribs and hopefully will only miss a couple of weeks. In would come back up QB Landry Jones and he would amount a pretty nice drive but tried to force a pass on his first drive and was picked off by Jason McCourty.

The Titans would then stall out and would add 3 points on a Rob Bironas 47 yard field goal putting them up 17-0. The game would continue in the same fashion as the Titans defense shut down the Steelers offense. Titans held the Steelers to 188 yards of total offense and just 11 rushing yards and added 2 INTs and 4 Sacks.

The one sore spot during week 1 is Chris Johnson suffered broken Jaw on a touchdown run and is probably out for the next couple of weeks. Shonn Greene and Darius Reynaud picked up the slack for the injured in the second half and did well with Reynaud picking up the touchdown on the short 10yard run.

Titans Offensive Stats

Ryan Fitzpatrick - 13/19 327 YDS 2 TDs
Chris Johnson - 20 ATT 93 YDS 1 TD
Justin Hunter - 3 rec 88 YDS
Delanie Walker - 3 rec 131 YDS 1 TD

Titans Defensive Stats

Bernard Pollar - 5 Tackles
Jason McCourty - 1 Tackles 1 INT
Jurrel Casey - 2 Tackles 2 Sacks

The Titans head to face their division rival Houston Texans next week and will have to come up with a different game plan especially since they will be without speedster Chris Johnson.
