Super Attack 80 minute mode from Fifa 13 for entire game?

Have played probably a total of 10 whole games, world class, 8 minutes, Orion's sliders with perhaps a number higher or lower here or there.

Thought I was on the right track for the most part as I played Spurs/Chelsea three or four times - good games, fair, felt like a lot of fun. had to work for scoring chances but didn't at all feel ripped off or cheated. Lost a few, won a few with a draw in there too.

Decided to start a career and things changed. I played my second friendly as Spurs against Real Betis. I didn't even get to attempt a shot during the game. The CPU was in 80 minute attack mode from Fifa 13 the entire game. I was lucky if I could get it past the center line. They are supposedly trying to reduce people hitting speed burst but what else are you supposed to do when players run twice as fast as everyone on your team and cover twice as much ground. It was ridiculous.

There were times during this particular game that I seriously thought my controller was broken. I would be running for a ball and my player would seriously slow down and start moving in a different direction, purposely avoiding the ball. I couldn't direct them to the ball itself. My players would back away from the ball or just stand there. Balls would magically fall off of their feet with just a simple basic dribble and end up going right to the CPU. One time, I had my CB make a simple ground pass across the field to my RB, who proceeded to completely whiff, trip, and let the ball go out of bounds, not even touching it.

The game ended up 0-0 with a total of one shot between the two teams and it was by far the worst FIFA game I have ever participated in. Please tell me that this was some sort of apparition or that my controller was indeed broken. I really thought I found a good set of settings and now I am just ticked off and frustrated.

Doesn't sound fun, but what can you do? You have to play the next game and see how that one goes. Maybe it was a fluke, who knows. Let us know how the second one turns out.

I've had numerous experiences like this. Turning down the difficulty below World Class makes every game a 7-0 squash in my favor, though. The AI in this year's career mode makes the AI from 13 seem really fair, to be honest.

All of the games I've played in Career Mode(about 10 now) were like this. The computer just seems to have quicker cuts and hold the ball so well. There defending is ridiculously overpowered. The first few games the cpu was really just parking the bus and it was impossible to find any space. Now they are defending like that, but once they get the ball it is extremely hard to get it back as they pass and possess like Barca. This is a League 1 Career Mode with Sheffield United as well.

Yeah, I'm very much pausing my FIFA '14 assessments until we can all sort out the difference in gameplay between friendlies and Career Mode fixtures.

As things stand now, I'm experiencing a very different thing between the two.

I started a career with Blackburn, WC difficulty, and some variation of Orion's sliders with 10 minute halves. It's utterly brutal thus far. The entire championship league plays like a late 80's Italian side. They're also converting what few chances they get with incredible success.

          Harumph.

Playing a career with Club America on the PC version, world class and I'm struggling to get any offense. I've played 4 games in my season and have 4 pts. Probably average around 3-4 shots per game on 9 minutes. I finally had to put cpu marking to 45 and was able to get off 10 shots but still lost the game.

That's been just about precisely my experience as well.

This has been a typical match for me and I'm definitely noting that the drudgery is on both sides. 10 minute halves, WC.

                Blackburn - Watford

                Total Shots (on target):
                2 (1) - 3(1)

                Possession:
                51 - 49

                Tackles:
                30 - 15

                Fouls:
                0 - 1

                Corners:
                0 - 0

                Shot Accuracy:
                50% - 33%

                Pass Accuracy:
                79% - 87%

Overall, an incredibly dull game...like it hurt to be a part of it.

Re: Super Attack 80 minute mode from Fifa 13 for entire game?

It's the good old emotional engine (happy happy joy!) and it's the reason I'm still playing the demo: no emotional engine coding in the demo. That's why I'm really enjoying FIFA this year, the game plays so much better without it. I've been holding off on buying the full game until I heard if the emotional engine stuff was in again this year. I figured it would be, it's been part of the series for years now although it kind of maybe sounds worse than ever.

Anyway, there are a couple of different aspects to the CPU boost coding in FIFA. One is the 45/90 minute pressure attack stuff the CPU launches into each game, and often at the start of games. The pressure attack programming, apart from being much too static and predictable, I can live with. The CPU will lob balls up to its FWs if it needs a goal in the dying minutes for example, so it actually works and make some sense on some level.

Then there's the emotional engine stuff where the CPU launches into a sustained cyborg ninja attack, made worse by its uncanny psychic abilities: always knows when you're about to try a tackle and will turn away; always knows where rebounds or loose balls will end up and will run to that precise spot, etc. The dirty, lowdown, scumbag (to borrow a phrase from a post by Hutton yesterday) emotional engine stuff is a big reason why I stopped playing FIFA on the console a couple years back. Because there are programming codes in the PC version of the game that can be altered and changed, and that do help with this.

Re: Super Attack 80 minute mode from Fifa 13 for entire game?

The first game in career mode wasn't like this however. It was relatively normal although I lost.

I've just seen too many weird things so far. I've had three own goals where players of mine either headed it directly into the net with no one around them or were dribbling across the net to get away from a defender and then just had the ball go off their feet and into the goal. I've seen the mysterious "miss a pass" play several times where my player just stumbles out of nowhere and the pass goes right past/through him.

I don't mind the marking as much as the imbalance between CPU speed and acceleration and the human. Right now, I think I have human speed and acceleration one number higher than the CPU, but it is obvious when playing that they are not the same. No matter who the player is (and I play with Spurs so Kyle Walker has a speed rating of 93 or 95), they cannot outrun the CPU or even escape them for a brief second. Marking tight in one thing, but when they are on you in an instant and cover way too much ground than is reasonable, the game becomes unplayable.

The only thing I can say about my game is that the other team was bad too and was making awful passes. It was seriously just a game of them getting the ball off me, making a bad pass, them getting the ball right back from me, making a bad pass. I had a headache afterwards.

I hope this was an anomaly but I will have to wait and see. I always hated the random career games that you could tell as soon as it started that you had NO chance of winning. All I ask is to have a "fair" game. That's it.

I feel the exact same way about the CPU vs. User player speed. The CPU is definitely faster by default with accel and speed at the same slider setting. I'm tempted to do the same thing and lower the CPU's settings by 1 but I feel like I'm being a *****.

Could the answer be a slider set on pro? I am not sure if it could be made challenging enough, but is seems like a possible fix.

This is just as crazy in FUT offline. A similar mode to CM but with CM at least you can make some slider changes.

In FUT I have noticed it's less about what difficulty you are playing against and more about whether or not the CPU decides to turn on GOD MODE.

I got annihilated in WC in FUT offline. But then played a real even match on Legendary that I drew. I then breathed a sigh of relief when I saw my next game was on Pro but the CPU came roaring out as unstoppable as ever and banged in 2 goals before 20'. I clawed my way back and tied it with a goal in the 90' but it's a whole new experience playing to a draw on Pro level.

One thing I have found to counter the CPU (with no slider changes in FUT) is to adopt a new quick tactic and then switch it frequently during the match. That seems to back the CPU off a bit from being so rambunctious.

A peeve. Why can't I set my quick tactics during a throw in? or free kick? I would really just like to change them during stoppages of play because when the CPU is all over me it gets tough to keep the ball and do things on the D-pad all at once.

Perhaps I can activate them from the pause menu? I know you can choose which ones you want there, just not sure you can make them active in the pause menu.

Emotional engine? Did you coin that or is this something EA has discussed/admitted to?

In either event, that title just about nails what happens in certain situations. I've yet to play a career mode game (waiting for the next roster update to start), but what I'm reading sounds bloody awful.

In 13 there was no denying the fact that the CPU went into god mode when down in the 80'. It was blatant, it was dirty, it was dastardly. You basically had to completely shut up shop for the final 10'. Now I'm not saying this doesn't occur IRL matches (an EPL match in the final 10-20' can become crazy), but the method that EA employs is absurd.

There was also those matches in 13 (one in particular MLS playoff match I had vs the LA Galaxy took me at least 7 or 8 replay attempts to finally beat them) where the engine basically was dictating that you were going to lose. I was hoping this was fixed for 14, but alas.
