Re: NBA 2K14 Next-Gen TV Spot
That's just bizarro logic though. They wouldn't have to be "smart enough" not to release terrible work if they hadn't been doing terrible work for the last three years in the first place. And not seeing much of what they have done since shouldn't be the cause for optimism, but pessimism.
I mean would you rather eat at a solid Chinese restaurant that could stand improvement, or wait to eat at a closed Chinese restaurant that sports pretty pictures of food on the windows-- but has sounds of shrieking cats and dogs emanating from the kitchen?
EA does much more hyping than 2K, and consistently delivers on much less or doesn't deliver at all. For kicks I watched the original Elite 11 promos. Same hype we're getting now and it boggles my mind how any of those devs could have said what they said while knowing the game played and looked the way it did.
Anyway, I get that you'd like a big shift in basketball games, but stuff like "this just looks like PC with mods" then posting a post processed video that looks nothing like next-gen is seriously baffling.Comment

Re: NBA 2K14 Next-Gen TV Spot
LBJ scooping the loose ball is the best animation I've seen from 2k in the trailers. Other animations seem eerily similar to CG.
I like the Live animations I've seen, except the Kyrie finger roll which they didn't finish.
It's obviously way early at this point 5v5 will show everything.Comment

Re: NBA 2K14 Next-Gen TV Spot
Perhaps this is fair..... BUT maybe CG 2K has SOOOO many animations that it isn't such a horrible thing? Maybe they have sooooo many that they could port them over and the tiny moments between animations can make next gen and thus create such a smoother experience.....?LBJ scooping the loose ball is the best animation I've seen from 2k in the trailers. This is coming from someone who doesn't know much about gaming developing, but open to thoughts on this....Comment

Re: NBA 2K14 Next-Gen TV Spot
There was a gif showing it over and over. His fingers spread to scoop up the ball lol. And the animations of RayRay and Kobe trailing him were great also. It looks like there is even randomness to their arm swings. I really think once 2K starts to show of this game it will be like nothing we've seen. Re: NBA 2K14 Next-Gen TV Spot
Very well could be, I still expect 2k to blow live outta the water. I wish the lighting and the colors were more life like during the 2k gameplay clip. Colors seem to pop almost too much. There was a gif showing it over and over. His fingers spread to scoop up the ball lol. And the animations of RayRay and Kobe trailing him were great also. I don't understand why people get the assumption that 2k looks better than live. Wake up people! 2k is more interesting as a trailer because of more than one player face being shown in a trailer. Wait till or hopefully EA shows off Lebron Durant and Melo then we will uuuuuuwwa and aaaaah again. Watch. PS. Nba Live has real wingspan, fit jerseys, and lean and slim lifelike models. Hope 2k next trailer has a more up to date build.

Re: NBA 2K14 Next-Gen TV Spot
The same can be said for 2k though. Everyone is so quick to forget what they've released for MLB 2k the last few years. At least EA had the decency to cancel sub-par games. That doesn't excuse the lack of information at this point, but for me, it gives them a sliver of credibility back. That's just bizarro logic though. They wouldn't have to be "smart enough" not to release terrible work if they hadn't been doing terrible work for the last three years in the first place. And not seeing much of what they have done since shouldn't be the cause for optimism, but pessimism.
I'm not sure where the cats and dogs portion of the analogy is coming from. But taking the rest of your analogy: You're asking whether I would rather eat at a new restaurant with the same menu as an older restaurant, but newer equipment, and fresher food. Or I can try a new, rebranded place with new chefs and an unknown menu.I mean would you rather eat at a solid Chinese restaurant that could stand improvement, or wait to eat at a closed Chinese restaurant that sports pretty pictures of food on the windows-- but has sounds of shrieking cats and dogs emanating from the kitchen?
To that analogy, I will say the same thing I'm saying about the games: I will wait and see what people say about both places, and most likely try them both for myself.
This is where my optimism comes in. Live 14 is being developed on brand new hardware, with a completely different leadership team and developers than Elite. I have said this before: I liked the ideas that Elite had (1:1 dribble controls, physics based player interactions), but they did a very poor job implementing it. Until I see gameplay of Live 14, I will remain optimistic that it will be fun and have some of these features. The same goes for 2k14. 2k13 made a huge stride in my mind in simply moving the dribble moves to the right stick. If 2k can fix the issues that plagued current-gen games, I will be ecstatic. And I have no reason at this point to think they haven't at least tried.EA does much more hyping than 2K, and consistently delivers on much less or doesn't deliver at all. For kicks I watched the original Elite 11 promos. Same hype we're getting now and it boggles my mind how any of those devs could have said what they said while knowing the game played and looked the way it did.
I wasn't saying that the graphics looked equal. I was saying that we can't tell anything from these kinds of videos, because they don't show us uncut, unedited gameplay. The video from 2k13 moved just as well as the TV spot. Which is not surprising since everything we saw was animation-based. Where 2k14 NG can impress on the court is AI, player movement/control (ie immediate branching into and out of animations based on user input), and player-player/player-ball interaction.Anyway, I get that you'd like a big shift in basketball games, but stuff like "this just looks like PC with mods" then posting a post processed video that looks nothing like next-gen is seriously baffling.Last edited by Skopin; 10-01-2013, 12:15 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K14 Next-Gen TV Spot
Improvement compared to what? NBA LIve 10, a game published 4 years ago on a different generation of consoles? NBA Elite, a game never published?Impressive trailer, but I'm more concerned with immersion. Will the character movements in-game mimic real life on and off-ball? Will players seem less robotic? Will 2k get rid off syncing, when 2 players are doing the exact same animation at the same time? Will playing against the cpu also feel less robotic?
Live has actually shown a tad bit more improvement in that regard in their trailers.
I really don't get it...Comment
