To keep the game "real," you might want to consider scaling the skill-specific ratings. One thing I do is I assign ratings that reduce the average rating significantly. So instead of 2000 players with tackle ratings in the 70-90 range, I have 200 players for example. The base average for tackle ratings then gets lowered from say 60 to maybe 15 or so. You of course can do this for all the ratings you edit.
