    NFL2k5 really best football game?

    I tried everything, tweaking sliders....rosters.......
    well.....
    problems you CAN'T SOLVE:
    1) Bad cpu Qb %. Some games they are SO DUMB and throws lot of bull****s.
    2) Unreal pass rush. Offensive line lot of times start to be DUMB! Don't block nothing.....especially the center of the line...***sh to the Qb easily. And that affects Qb %
    3) NO PUNT RETURN. Returning team don't block nothing! Kicking team are all....repeat...all over the running man.
And these are the biggests problems, there are others.....

When i leaved madden (that now i really think has MINOR problems and tweaking you CAN solve or reduce) is for the gameplay. I wanted a real, competitive gameplay. NFL 2k5 doesn't gives you that....sorry....but that's the true.

Personal taste, I suppose. Yes, there is no "perfect" game and both Madden 25 and NFL 2k5 have deep flaws (which should be surprising since Madden had another 10 years to refine its game). I do agree with number one above - 2k5 does have issues with cpu QBs playing well enough. Ironically, though Madden completely fails the opposite way - every QB is Peyton Manning shredding the D. I'd call this a draw. As to #2, we totally disagree - Madden has not used its 10 years of development to even match the OL/DL interaction in 2K5, let alone improve it. We still see suction blocking and no real physics in the line play. As to PR, again, we disagree - these are better for me in 2k5 than Madden. I'll then add that Madden almost has the running game now as good as 2k5 was, but that playing defense in Madden is still light years short of 2k5. Presentation and the draft module, favor 2k5 also (though, again, the draft module does have deep flaws). Given the fact that a decade separates these games, it is a disgrace we even have to debate which is better. And THAT is the truth.

I'm an offline franchise gamer, so APF just didn't work for me. I agree that I hope 2k puts out another game (with a franchise mode!).

Using GillBoldberg's rosters and sliders Tyrelle Pryor just lit up my Eagles D for 275 and 4 TDs last night. I believe he was somewhere around 13/19 as they were running McFadden and I was selling out trying to stop the run.

Punt returns are possible, just need a good punt returner. I use DJax and I've returned a punt or two.

The O line does seem to be a problem, but sometimes I am holding on to the ball way too long.

            I tried 2k4.......
            After half time (all pro):
            - cpu q %: 23%
            - Punt returns: seems receiving team block a little more
            - Pass rush: . The problem is not on the center of the defense like 2k5, but the sides (after half time i was sacked 6 time).
I don't see difference, so i think i 'll never test more or tweak the sliders of 2k4.

Hum offensive line in 2k seems like the OL of the Seattle (reserve) vs Texans

              uhhhhhh

played the steelers as the raiders the other day.

QB passing wasn't so hot. however, the secondary i built up was pretty decent.

returned a punt about 50 yards for a TD. have returned many punts for TDs in the 10 years this game has been out. kickoffs are nigh impossible to return though.

was sacked once on 28 or so pass attempts. don't know what you're seeing. your 5 linemen 95% of the time pick up 5 pass rushers. sacked big ben once.

previous two games i played as the browns i got beat down by the patriots and the bills.

              the ai isnt broken

I think it's still great. And I could only imagine how much better it'd be on ps3/ xbox AND next gen.

They didn't have patches back then, either, but I'm sure if there were, 2k would've corrected some of these issues.

They did have some type of a minor patch if I recall. 2K5 is/was an incredible game for H v H (as was K4). However, for vs. the CPU, you really have to get a good marriage between the sliders and the roster edits. To the OP, search by my name in this sub-forum for tweaks. I routinely also posted stats to bear out what I found you can accomplish, including tremendously good QB pass %.

I just managed to get my PS2 working again and picked up a copy of NFL2K5 for $5 from ebay. Played two games from a franchise I started back in '05 with my 49ers and boy they are horrible - wanted to point out though I saw "OFFSETTING PENALTIES!" I never remember seeing that in my orignal playthrough with 2k and I know I have NEVER seen that in Madden. the little things.

You can't compare current Madden to 2k5 like you would current Madden to current NBA 2k14 or so. Madden has serious issues that 2k5 had figured out almost 10 years ago. You say 2k5 qb play is bad, madden qb play is way too good. Madden pass rush is too non existent, and too easy to return punts or kicks. You make like that stuff but me? Im a defensive guy yes I wish QB play was better but there are ways too improve it its not impossible along with the other issues. And i haven't even meantioned the countless other bugs in madden that out weights 2k5's. Players retire too early, madden has a turnover issue. Too many picks fumbles as well, running way too easy. Madden draft is messed up, graphics aren't great for 2013 game, crowd is static, along with sideline interactions (which 2k5 still has it beat). 2k5 has post game interviews, better less laggy menu/ui, controls sportscenter, weekly prep. I could go on forever but most of those are opinion as someone else said 2k8 is the best on field football game ever which isn't even disputable.. But 2k5 put it all together to make a great game 10 years ago.
                      just my 2 cent

Chibears, you are wrong, i explained in the first post: If you spend lot of time tweaking (rosters, attributes, sliders...), NFL2K5 DON'T SOLVE (punt and kick return, QB cpu, pass rush). Now i can sum two very big problems: CPU QB and first of all DEFENSE (cpu and hum) TOO STRONG (they are ****ing robots ) that's why the defense destroy offense in all area, see offensive line blocking, see qb cpu (it's bad because of the defense), see returning team that don't block anything.
In Madden there is problems, but if you spend time tweaking, you can solve most of them. For example, if you tweak sliders you see immediately difference in the gameplay, in NFL2K5 you see very little difference (for example reduce defense coverage from max to zero, you see very little difference, THAT'S THE OTHER BIG PROBLEM)

Lol 2k5 opposed to madden is more natural and less robotic. For example in Madden receivers automatically turn around and catch passes thrown to them, they shift there feet impossibly too make sideline catches etc etc. And with Bill's sliders radja sliders hell Legends default the offense can run and pass pretty well. I understand what you are trying to say here, but you have to realize 2k5 was made in 2004 offense didn't dominate like they did today having a qb throw for 300 yards 60% completion rating on average was a anomaly. Madden is equipped for the kind of gameplay you are looking for without drastic changes, you asked the question is 2k5 really the best ever? And putting it all together(not just gameplay) its one of the best.

First off, you're not supposed to be comparing Madden and 2K here, but in the general sub-forum. That being said, the tweaking via Finn's editor was not all that difficult and did take some time. As far as punt returns, the problem is that the overcorrected 2K4 and as we all know, never really got to do more in-game programming to moderate this in a potential 2K6. However, if you substitute in the slow bench guys for the coverage teams, it made it more realistic.

But the bottom line is that if you're not willing to do it to get better gameplay, then don't play it.
